I’m in the half of the movie and I think there are subtle details like this. Spirit instead of Holy Spirit… little things that could have easily been written clearly as they are in truth. But let’s see.
I’m genuinely excited that filmmakers are continuing to explore and humanize the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Her role is so central to the Christian faith, but often remains underexplored in mainstream films. It’s wonderful to see a movie that takes the time to show her inner life, her emotions, and the challenges she faced-especially in a way that brings more depth to her character beyond just her religious significance. The creativity and effort to bring such an important figure to life, with attention to historical context and emotional resonance, is something I really appreciate. Movies like this help connect modern audiences to these ancient stories in meaningful ways.
Hard agree. Thats why I like the chosen. Yes, it's biblical and naturally quite religious, but it doesn't just focus on the miracles -- it also shows Jesus just chilling with his friends and having a good time, like at the wedding in Canaan. Bro didn't just show up and make wine and call it a miracle; bro showed up, made wine, and got lit 😅🎉
@@brentage5000Great way to misrepresent Holy figures is by adding context from silence. A different movie with Mary and Joseph. They portrayed Joseph as a jealous step dad that didn’t think of Jesus as his own son. I’m conflicted on movies or shows that don’t stick closely to the true material.
@@WorshiptheTrinity really? I'm conflicted on reportedly factual material written and edited by people five hundred years after the fact and after massive divisions in the church. Besides which, it is possible to both appreciate a fictional representation of a figure while still following the ideas that figure represents. (Something a great many people in this country seem to have forgotten about or are deliberately ignoring. I mean, J was kind to everyone and accepted the cast-offs and ignored into his best friend circle, and now those same types are being ignored and attacked by those in power. What's that about?
@@brentage5000 Not sure what you’re referring to? The Church has been consistent in its teachings for thousands of years. They expanded on the truths that were revealed but “never changed” them until the reformation. I also don’t know how we are able to follow the idea a figure represents when portraying them as fictional Characters vastly different from the original.
At first, I was like "hmm what could they share about her story to make it a whole film?" But the trailer humbled me. It shows us the potential pain and struggle she must have gone through to be the bearer of such an impossible promise. So often people talk about her role as if she just gracefully went through the struggles without much doubt/anxiety/pain... but the emotions portrayed in the trailer remind me/us that she too was a human walking in the unknown, and the chaos that comes with that, coupled with God’s peace & provision in the promise. Really excited for this to come out!

While there isn't anything in Scripture about Mary's childhood and very little about her relationship with Joseph, there was a lot of oral tradition about her in early Christianity. The Protoevangelium of James (written in the mid 100's AD but not part of the scriptural canon) gives us a pretty full account of what Christians at the time believed about her childhood and life and relationship with Joseph. She was born to Joachim and Anne who were too old for children, but God blessed them with Mary and they dedicated her to the Temple. It looks like that is the text they based this on. If there is a scene where Joseph and other men are brought before the temple to find a guardian for Mary and Joseph is chosen by God indicated by his staff bringing forth a dove, then it was likely taken from this account. If his staff buds and brings forth flowers, it was likely based on the later Christian traditions written about in the 6th or 7th centuries.
To know life is to know suffering. To bring in the Messiah Jesus Mary suffered greatly due to the customs, shame, and lack of belief. Think how women are treated now and then times that by being owned and not even recognized as a full person. Society only accepted our gender in the 60s and currently we are still living in a time where not all women are free only some are. I can’t imagine the threats and suffering Mary had. I hope they do her justice. It’s often glossed over. But Jesus suffered so much. Being human is hard.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
“That sentence, ‘love will save the world,’ truly touched my heart. It’s such a powerful and emotional reminder of the beauty and strength of love-it brought tears to my eyes too!
Can't even imagine what Mother Mary must have endured before Christ's birth, during His life and also while seeing Him get crucify. And here I am still crying over my faaaar smaller issues.
It is Mother Mary bc Jesus gave her to us on the cross to be our mother. He is our brother in Christ so therefore she is our mother. It is not idolatry that we call her mother bc she is the mother of God. Christians believe that Jesus is God so Mary is the Mother of God. Worship is due only to God alone but we venerate Mary bc without God she is nothing. She relies on God for everything, for every grace, and every necessity. We venerate her not worship her because she made the ongoing commitment to cooperate with God's grace. Without her yes Jesus would not have been given his humanity. Holy Mother of God pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Help us and point us the way to Jesus as you did at the wedding at Cana

Am I the only one who thinks this seems off? The fact that the quote “All things are possible with God,” was shortened to “all things are possible,” just doesn’t sit right with me.
Yeah, and I suspect that the quote "love will save the world" will be focused on/expounded in a scene that hardly alludes to Jesus specifically being that Love (1 John 4:16). Maybe they'll try to attach a humanist or vaguely "spiritual" take to it, to make it more palatable. Or maybe they'll get it right 🙏
I'm about 90% certain that Jesus' name won't even be mentioned in this movie. Yeshua. Immanuel. Jesus. Netflix won't let it happen. It's gonna be girl boss Mary.
@@isaiah3872You are right. They made it sound as if it's the love between Joseph and Mary. Not the love between God and the world. Not for God so loved the world that he sent his only son....
same here, many things are off at least with the Catholic church is Mary's birthing pains. The quote ''it's not possible" - is not biblical, and the fact that she questions marrying Joseph has feminist undertones. It's not even clear he was stranger to her, people lived in small communities back then, they most likely knew each other. It's a shame such a visually beautiful piece is so twisted.
"Greetings, favored one", not hail. Mary is not deity. Only Christ is worthy of our worship. EDIT: Though, I wouldn't dare speak poorly of Jesus' mother.... haha

@@danielkandell3399 The Greek word chaíre (χαῖρε) translates to "hail" in the Bible and is a greeting that expresses a wish for the welfare of the person being addressed. It literally means "rejoice" or "be glad". So, yes. I was technically wrong. It is "hail" but it's a simple greeting, my friend. I have tremendous respect (veneration) for Mary as the mother of my Lord but it ends there. She is not someone to be prayed to. She can't hear our prayers. She has literally zero power to do anything here on earth. Jesus himself restrains his own power to work exclusively through the Holy Spirit during this in-between time of his ascension and 2nd coming. Mary was a human being. She still is a human being but one who now only exists in heaven and is currently worshipping in the presence of our Lord Jesus entirely unaware and uncaring of what's happening on Earth.
It is.. Panagia gave birth without physical pain and she remained physically- like she didn't gave an actual birth-. But Netflix is popular for making flashy and showy emotional films. The deep story of the Mother of God has to be known from holy fathers of Orthodoxy... unfortunately Hollywood does not have experience or knowledge about this truth.
Netflix has beautifully brought to life the spiritual essence of Mother Mary's journey, offering a profound exploration of her unwavering faith, compassion, and divine strength. Through stunning visuals and a deeply moving narrative, the film paints a picture of her humility, grace, and devotion to God. It’s a powerful portrayal that resonates with the soul, reminding viewers of the purity and depth of spiritual devotion. Kudos to Netflix for creating a film that not only honors Mother Mary’s legacy but also inspires viewers to reflect on their own spiritual paths and connection to the divine.
Mary, the daughter of Imran, holds a highly revered status in Islam and is one of the greatest women among believers. She is the mother of Prophet Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him) and is known for her purity, chastity, and being chosen by Allah. Her name is mentioned multiple times in the Qur’an, and an entire chapter, Surah Maryam, is dedicated to her, highlighting her extraordinary position. Mary’s Status in Islam: 1. Being Chosen and Purified: Allah says: “And [mention] when the angels said, ‘O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.’” (Qur’an, 3:42). This verse reflects her high rank among women. 2. Dedicated to Worship: Her mother dedicated her to the service of the sacred house before her birth, as she said: “When the wife of Imran said, ‘My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me.’” (Qur’an, 3:35). From a young age, Mary was known for her devotion to worship. 3. The Miracle of Her Pregnancy: Mary conceived Jesus (peace be upon him) miraculously, without a father, as a sign of Allah’s power. Allah says: “I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy.” (Qur’an, 19:19). 4. Her Patience During Trials: Mary endured the hardship of carrying Jesus (peace be upon him) and the accusations from her people, yet she faced it all with patience and faith. Allah says: “So she pointed to him. They said, ‘How can we speak to one who is in the cradle, a child?’” (Qur’an, 19:29). 5. Mother of Jesus (peace be upon him): Mary was not only the mother of a prophet but also a symbol of faith and piety. Jesus, as a miraculous creation, was one of the greatest messengers of Allah. Mary in the Prophetic Traditions: • The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Many men attained perfection, but among women, only Mary, the daughter of Imran, and Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh, achieved perfection. And the superiority of Aisha over other women is like the superiority of Tharid (a dish) over other foods.” (Sahih al-Bukhari). This highlights her as one of the women who reached the pinnacle of faith. Lessons from Mary’s Story: • Faith in Allah and reliance on Him. • Patience in the face of trials and accusations. • Trust in Allah’s power and miracles. Mary is a timeless symbol of purity, faith, and submission to Allah’s will, serving as an exemplary role model for all believers.
"I am God's servant, let it be done to me according to Your will." The most powerful and faithful words from God's chosen woman. Her womb was the Ark of the Covenant.

God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent His only Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent His Son as the Saviour of the world' (1 John 4:7-14). God bless.
This is very inaccurate. Mother Mary is not depicted like this in the Bible. This movie focuses more on Mary being “a girl boss” and her and Joseph’s love, rather than on how she was actually like (she had an immense amount of love and obedience to the Father).
@@tenmrchicken2719 That's not what they were saying... while the Nativity is biblical, the dates of Christmas and when that Nativity happened were not even remotely on the same days or times according to history findings where it was used to cover with a hope of weakening over Pagan holidays and traditions back in Roman times with the first Christian emperor Constantine. If you haven't picked up, the entire Christian faith is filled with hate towards other faiths, ideas, and religions covering up others to suit themselves from the sin of man, notoriously noted in history where there were also killings and lynchings if you didn't believe in God or that god created the universe to surround the earth even back in the day until it was proven through science. While Jesus himself was a chill dude everyone liked people started abusing power from using his name in vain to the point it wasn't even about him anymore which is why he was nailed to the cross saying quote he took the sins of man with him, if you're not understanding the sin of man is very clearly not that he's physically taking it away from everyone like magic to suck it out of everyone but in the idea that he's taking what was done to him with him in a hope man would eventually change to be better and move on from what had happened to him by not repeating the same mistakes that were made. Very similarly this story repeats itself in history with Jeanne D'arc and several others who have came forward in history to repeat the very same process of invoking change. MLK, JFK, Abraham Lincoln for more up to date examples where these were some of those with the kindest hearts that tried to help the people from otherwise difficult scenarios but were otherwise betrayed because of those who couldn't understand IE, the sin of man. Not to be confused with current political affairs either albeit he was almost assassinated twice the way to know is in the kindness of what one offers to the table at the perils of their own self, not what one takes away for themselves, otherwise proving again the sin of man.

Hail Mary Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
“Mary” is a true spectacle! The story of Mary, mother of Jesus, is told with sensitivity and beauty that deeply moves us. The scenes are impeccably recorded and performed, with photography and soundtrack that transport us to the time and environment of the narrative. The acting of the actors is impeccable, conveying the faith, hope and strength of the main character. It is certainly a film we need for Christmas, reminding us of the true meaning of the date. Released on Netflix four days ago, “Mary” has already become one of my favorite films. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an exciting and inspiring cinematic experience. Five stars for this film that moves and uplifts us!
I gave birth in a traumatic way that almost ended my life.. and when I woke up in intensive care and went though early postpartum, and in the think of my post postpartum dependency…all in my head was, “Goodness.. Mama Mary, how did you get through all these pain and hardship? Was Baby Jesus colicky as well?? Did he cry a lot?? Was it so tough to put him to sleep?? How did you love him when all you wanted was to get a good sleep? Did you bleed a lot too?? How did you handle the pain? Please be with me” And I remember reciting the Hail Mary of Rosary with such emphasis on the word “womb” because daaang.. that word grew a total meaning to me!! WOMB! something only a woman can have and only a mother can experience! 😭 IYKYK ! And I remember praying to GOD but also having more connection with Mary because in my head it’s like “GOD, I know You are God and You know it all, but just at this time, please allow me to come to Mama Mary just to comfort me because being a new mom is sooo hard” 😭 I felt comforted..
Ok I'm a very secular and skeptical person but this looks PHENOMENAL! Not since The Passion of the Christ have I looked forward to seeing a biblical based movie. The fact that Anthony Hopkins plays King Herod is alone worth seeing 😮
They pandered this series dude. Look up who is playing Virgin Mary. Edit: pandering isn’t the right word in this scenario but rather the producers aren’t using the proper ethnic groups for the cast.
@ okay sure: 1. Pandering isn’t the right word for my statement but rather the proper word for this problem would be “changing Virgin Mary’s ethnicity. 2. Half of the cast is being played by Israelis while the other half are being played by Europeans. Virgin Mary was Levant and so was Jesus (past prophets were also Levant). Present day Israelis aren’t connected to the holy land as they are not connected to the eastern Mediterranean Levantine region. However the Palestinians are. It would have made sense to have a Palestinian Christian play Virgin Mary and cast other Palestinians in the documentary. But sadly this is Netflix and they just love to change the race of famous people.
Fun Fact: Mary’s parents are also saints called Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. They were saintly parents of faith. Mary is the immaculate conception meaning from the start she was conceived perfectly, free of sin, and in grace. In other words, how her parents conceived her was also as unique as how she conceived Christ. Mary did not suffer child labor pains (Eve’s sin make this possible for women, but Mary is free of sin) for she was a virgin before, during, & after having Jesus, thanks to the Holy Spirit sent by God.
Whatever you have mentioned is not in the Bible. So, I dont know where you are getting this from. But God is the only one without sin. And Jesus, the Son was born of a virgin and born without sin and committed no sin. But, certainily not Mary. When you say that she was born without sin, you are making her equal with God which God clearly condemns. Please read Isaiah 42:8 where God says that He will not share His glory with another. Please read the Bible to understand the truth. If there is any other document mentioning anything contradicting the truth of the Bible, then that is false.
@@deepaphilip7930you raise a common point but I encourage you to ask some questions. Adam and Eve were born(moreso created) without sin and nobody says they were equal with God. It is not saying Mary is equal with God. Also Where in the Bible does it say which books and Epistles would be contained in the Bible? It doesn't. We rely on the Bible but also on Divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit given to human beings that is passed through tradition.
@@brentage5000 Not sure what you’re referring to? The Church has been consistent in its teachings for thousands of years. I also don’t know how we are able to follow the idea a figure represents when portraying them as fictional Characters vastly different from the original.
@@brentage5000500 years? Try again.

Mary, not mother Mary.
It is Mother Mary bc Jesus gave her to us on the cross to be our mother. He is our brother in Christ so therefore she is our mother. Through stunning visuals and a deeply moving narrative, the film paints a picture of her humility, grace, and devotion to God.
Mary’s Status in Islam:
1. Being Chosen and Purified: Allah says:
“And [mention] when the angels said, ‘O Mary, indeed Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the worlds.’” (Qur’an, 3:42).
This verse reflects her high rank among women.
2. Dedicated to Worship: Her mother dedicated her to the service of the sacred house before her birth, as she said:
“When the wife of Imran said, ‘My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service], so accept this from me.’” (Qur’an, 3:35).
From a young age, Mary was known for her devotion to worship.
3. The Miracle of Her Pregnancy: Mary conceived Jesus (peace be upon him) miraculously, without a father, as a sign of Allah’s power. Allah says:
“I am only the messenger of your Lord to give you [news of] a pure boy.” (Qur’an, 19:19).
4. Her Patience During Trials: Mary endured the hardship of carrying Jesus (peace be upon him) and the accusations from her people, yet she faced it all with patience and faith. Allah says:
“So she pointed to him.
Mary in the Prophetic Traditions:
• The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Many men attained perfection, but among women, only Mary, the daughter of Imran, and Asiya, the wife of Pharaoh, achieved perfection. And the superiority of Aisha over other women is like the superiority of Tharid (a dish) over other foods.” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
This highlights her as one of the women who reached the pinnacle of faith.
Lessons from Mary’s Story:
• Faith in Allah and reliance on Him.
• Patience in the face of trials and accusations.
• Trust in Allah’s power and miracles.
Mary is a timeless symbol of purity, faith, and submission to Allah’s will, serving as an exemplary role model for all believers.

'Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Mary (Maryam) holds a truly special place in Islam as well. She is the only woman mentioned by name in the Quran and is honored as a symbol of purity, devotion, and faith. The Quran even dedicates an entire chapter to her (Surah Maryam, Chapter 19), describing her miraculous life, her steadfastness in the face of trials, and her role as the mother of Prophet Jesus (Isa, peace be upon him). Truly an inspiring figure shared across faiths!

Interesting how the comments are all praising this movie, but I wonder how many people actually implement the practices of Jesus Christ into their own lives…
I wonder how many of you said immigrants are taking away from you. I wonder how many of you voted for a felon and adulterer. I wonder if you stood by someone who Jesus Christ would warn you about. Forgiveness is essential, but when someone consistently does wrong with the intention to harm others, they are not full of love. They are full of hatred and evil. 'Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

I am sorry but i think this film will go far from the main point , first thing , they are portraying the love between Joseph and Mary as a romantic story and that wasn't in the Bible, Joseph was an old man not young , Mary was too young, and joseph was chosen by the the holy spirit to take care of her , the Bible didn't mention that there was a love story between them like that , she was his fiancé but come on don't take this too far to make much money and views , there is too many flaws in this trailer, and it will be a disappointment if it goes far away from the true story .
They didn't even mention God or any name of Jesus.
Now this, is Christmas, in every sense. THIS is what we carry in our hearts this season. I feel emotional already just watching the trailer. Every mother needs to watch this coz her sacrifice and struggles are so different. Her being pregnant while walking miles and miles just to find a place to stay is amazing. This better be an award winning movie
It definitely should be! Unfortunately, we live in a fallen world! Hollywood is, without a doubt, Satan's workshop, and therefore, the expression HELL will freeze over before something happens is most fitting for our hopes of seeing this or any other movie that the devil will hate because HELL would for real freeze over before the mayor of Hollywood allows for any movie like this to get the awards it deserves!
The potrayal of the cordial relationship between Mary and her father is very beautiful
Can see multiple red flags in the trailer alone. 1. Mary questioning the Will of God. 2. The Archangel Gabriel looks weird and dark. 3. Joseph accuses Mary of laying with a man. 4. Mary seems to be rescued from some sort of stoning scene. 5. Mary having pains in childbirth. 6. General interactions with Herod.... none of this bodes well for a sound representation of the Blessed Virgin. This is my Mother we're talking about.
As for the angel and pain in childbirth, Bible says almost nothing about that so of course we all have our different interpretations. As for the rest, those are just extra added scenes. You can read the whole story in the Bible in like 10 minutes lol, of course there’s gonna be some added scenes to make a full movie about it.
3) The man in that scene isn't Joseph; that's Joachim (Mary's father).
@@ALX65 their is nearly 2000 years of theology and study on this matter. This is not star wars where authors can just make stuff up and it not matter. @@baumholderh8425 I don’t see how it’s going against the flow though. Mary was not this sinless holy person. pain still existed for her.
@@ALX65 that is a modern view, when you look at what Christians in the first century thought. They viewed her birth as painless. The Ascension of Isaiah which is from 70 AD makes the claim her birth was painless. So does the Odes of Solomon also from as early as 70 AD. These don't hold absolute weight as they are not scriptures, but they show this is what Christians thought during the times of the apostles, remember, John the Apostle would not die until 100 AD.
By the third century the doctrine was pretty universal and we find the first recorded prayer to Mary, called "Sub tuum praesidium", which actually matches really close to the modern prayer. You also get St Hippolytus, who is the disciple of St. Irenaeus, who is the disciple of St Polycarp, who in turn was the disciple of St. John, who was entrusted to protect Mary, stating in 210 AD "The creator of all things, incorporated with Himself a rational soul and a sensible body from the all-holy Mary, ever Virgin." Don't think this started with him, his teacher St Irenaeus in 180AD wrote said similar ideas, I just like St.Hippolytus words better as they are clearer

This Christmas and this world deserve some love. Wow what a movie! Truly amazing work.
Marry Christmas beautiful people 🙏
Fun Fact: Mary’s parents are also saints called Saint Joachim and Saint Anne.
Am still waiting to see a movie that accurately represents Catholic views on the holy family etc (Sigh!)😞
