I love listening to Dr Dirkmaat, he's so sincere and eloquent. I do have one quibble though. He often says "you have to want to believe." When I came to the Church I didn't want to believe at all, but the spirit of the Church suddenly became so self-evident that I believed because of what I saw and felt in my soul without really "wanting" to. (if that makes sense)
We don't have to assert that physical light shone from the stones. Darkening the environment around the eyes to block out distractions to inspiration or revelation is a familiar tactic for spiritual practitioners. It's similar to closing the eyes when praying or meditating. If Joseph Smith had simply revealed the text of a lost book, it would be harder to distinguish it from works produced by automatic writing or purported transcriptions from the Akashic Records or whatever else. Acquaintance with various esoteric spiritual practices makes Joseph's translation process familiar - but again, it also sets it apart as something above and beyond.
After having had read the Book of Mormon a third time I share I found it complex; core message is the atonement of Christ, mirrors the testimony of the New Testament, and brings one closer to the Father, having read it! It is another testament of Yahshua HaMashiach! Its message is captured in opening pages for convincing of the Jew and Gentile that “Jesus” is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations … So, say you don’t take my advice now to read it, will you when the church changes its name to The Assembly of Tribulation Saints (TS) for Yahshua HaMashiach? How about if an outsider becomes their president? Call it…things to watch for in 2024! ❤ VANA
