I knew a guy who was smoking crack in the early 2000s and he was selling all his electricals to pay for his habit. I bought his stereo along with a few other bits. As I was leaving he made me plug in the stereo and he ejected the It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot CD. He didn’t even have anything to play it on anymore but he wasn’t letting that go. That’s how much DMX meant to everyone. I paid £28.99 at HMV in the UK the day DMX debut album dropped as an import from the USA. I completely understood why this guy didn’t wanna part with that album. X meant everything to guys living that life whether they were smoking or selling. Real fuckn talk

All the people around X who made millions off him never really took care of him and it was easy to tell X, look the guy over there is screwing you over. Dee & Wah are like mobsters, they used X and put Swizz up when compared to PK & Dame Grease, his sound was and still is only basic. They screwed PK & Dame Grease over like crazy just to get Swizz on.

I wouldn't say top five HOWEVER he is the first rapper to carry a Label when at the time most rappers albums were not consistent.
DMX was also one of the first rappers to actually do what he rapped about. Honestly, I strongly believe If he did not get on drugs and women he would be up there with Jay-Z.

@@354allday Your parents failed u they raised a literal loser.
Imagine if DMX came out around 92/93 ? Imagine X, Pac, Biggie being out at the same time
FACTS..WOULDVE LOVED TO SEE IT
X tried to come out in 92/93 with the track "Born Loser" but it wasn't his time yet. Neither the production fitted his style of rapping back then, nor were his rhymes like in 98 yet! Pac was already out in 1993 with "Strictly for my N.I.G.G.A.S". B.I.G. only came out 2 years later. The sound X is affiliated with would've not worked while Pac & BIG were alive. Pac & BIG had street records but also records for the clubs, X never compromised the streets. It was either street or deep rap with a lot of pain.

@The Bulletz Gotti Show Yup. I have zero memories of anybody hating on someone because they from the south. That don’t mean New Yorkers liked what New Yorkers liked.
I’m from South Carolina but live in New York now. Growing up in the 90’s I love New York music but I think it’s wack you talk about southern music when that was apart of our culture especially in the clubs. Niggas was not going to dance to Jay Z in the club. Snap music was just for dancing. Period. For us it wasn’t wack it was our culture just like Scarface, cash money, Outkast, Goodie Mob. @S.C J Jodeci was huge in NY and is just as southern as Silk the Shocker, NY like what it like just like any other market.
