I'm not a jeweler; I restore and refurbish vintage machinery and use a number of jeweler's tools. My most often used tool is a Foredom TX flexshaft. It's a die grinder of sorts. The thing is unstoppable! As for sales, I originally did a couple of drill presses from the 1940s and listed them on Marketplace. Two days later I had a business. This year hasn't been great for obvious reasons, but I'm still working in hopes of selling the stuff next spring/summer.

Basia, Because you asked for input from viewers, I've thought long and hard about recommending a torch and having both the Smith Little AND the Smith Silversmith, I can readily and positively suggest the acetylene and ambient air Smith Silversmith torch. It's soo much easier and readily available and versatile. But don't take my word, if you can try them both. You can use either one, you have an excellent aptitude. I'd love to hear what you think. Maybe find a couple of fellow jewelers and ask them to give you some time on their torch, maybe help them with something and they will help you decide (that is what I did and it was invaluable)! Recently, I ran out of acetylene, and because of COVID, I couldn't get my tank filled (replaced: they take yours and give you a full one), so I had to get my Little torch going. Oh, I bitched and moaned, SO much more work and fussiness. It works well but it is nowhere near as user friendly. I recommend checking out Jeannette K. Cains RUclips channel, Jewelry Arts in NY. She has good info that is so helpful - you probably already know about her. She uses the Smith Silversmith to much success and ease. Also, I'd get a Benchmate Ring system over an engraving ball, ALL DAY LONG! - you make rings and although an engraving ball is great (I have one - by accident) You can do engraving very well and easily with the GRS Benchmate system and it is more versatile - the engraving ball is good but very heavy, cumbersome and not as easily movable - seriously, it's a BEAST!. The Benchmate Encore QCX is primo! Contact GRS, maybe they would love you to do a review and give you one for that. You do great reviews, They'd be lucky to have you!! I ONLY share my thoughts because you asked. I never like to "should" on people!! Respect!!!! Good luck Wonder Woman Basia!! Thank you again for your great channel.

Amazing tips! I had to take a break from wire wrapping for about 3 months, but when I came back, I had so many life experiences that I came back much stronger and better. Sometimes you just need time for the knowledge you learned to digest, and you can actually get over a learning curve by not thinking about it at all. Crazy stuff! Loved this video and I love your beautiful mindset and peaceful environment 💗 Thank you for putting yourself out there. 🦋🙏🥰

Can I throw in another 'get out of a rut' technique?.... I tend to gather bits of wire off-cuts, bits of stones and various odds and ends that I can't bear to throw out. I like to just allow myself to play with these bits and bobs without any pressure to 'create' anything. Invariably I find that my wee brain throws in a few off beat pairings and blendings of such items and it brings the fun back. Thanks for all your posts, you are much appreciated xxx

Its funny that you say that because I think you're so thorough! I say cover anything that you already had in mind, and maybe any issues or troubles you had in the beginning. Have you had any issues with customers that you had to resolve? (Which i would find hard to believe, you're pieces are amazing). Maybe do a little process of how a purchase works, from printing a label to packaging to shipping it out, and how you keep multiple orders organized ect. Its all so intimidating to me 😅 Thank you so much sweet lady 💕✨

Hiya Lady Stardust, how are you both doing? So you are not only a silver smith you're a word smith too? Wow you said a lot dear lady but no extra words. Your description on setting up an etsy shop was perfect, in that it was how & more important, why you did each thing. You opened up, again answering a load of deep questions & giving us indepth studied answers. You may get what some would see as a disappointing number of comments but a lot of people will be floored by the quality of your insightful outporings. To tell us so much, not carefully written but spoken straight off the bat in a strange language not your own shows the depth of your feeling & the depth of your linguistic prowess! Big words from me now! Thank you Basia for your insight & the depth of your feeling...

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing

hmm, I would say, do whatever you want! Do what feels right. Because you shouldn't keep yourself from making the kind of art you want. You can have various products too, you will just have to focus more on proper marketing, and insted of using just word jewelry for example, start using DESIGNS instead :) It's ok to create different things, so don't hold yourself back! Sending best wishes 😊❤

No they say great how convienent, (I never could spell), Never let others dictate how you think & work, there would be no new art if we did that! No moving on & upward, ever. You are the person who controls your art & its markerting never let others try to push their small minded ideas into your work! My silver work is limited in design but it's my art & my design! Own your work ALL OF IT! If you feel that something deserves an audience then give it one, put it in the shop & the very best of luck to you! Take care & stay safe... Steve...
