Hey friends! I missed out on our Sunday video so uploading it today on a sunny Spring Tuesday afternoon! I hope you're all feeling good. I missed ya xxxxx
Very lovely video 💃😎😉 - Looking great! Don't feel bad about living at home at 29, your situation is unique to you and you know why. You seem the type of person who is doing things in life to benefit yourself so take it as a positive and a chapter of your life at 29.
Saving money is the most liberating feeling in the world. I always tell everyone I know, I don’t make a lot of money, but I do try to save a lot of money, and it’s so much more liberating to have that skill set than to make tons of money and lack those money saving skills. Inspired by you as usually, I have been thinking about buying another share in a stock lately and you gave me the push I needed. ♥️ to you!
Ever since I started following you and Shelbie I have felt better about myself and a lot less depressed! Thank you for the change in perspective about the world ❤️
I’m the kind of person who cannot do small talk-ever-and one of the reasons I enjoy you and subscribe to your channel is because there is no pretense with you; no small talk and we just get into the meat of it, so to speak. Thank you.
Taking care of one's financial health is so important and appreciate you've included them in your video. The more we talk about money in constructive ways as you have done here, we are all better off. Thank you Immy!
I had a journal with a very boring cover. I thought of the gorgeous gift bag I had received a gift in once a long time ago that sat in my hall drawer...so gorgeous I had never been able to bring myself to re-use it as I had planned. So I cut it and used back and front of the bag to cover front and back of my journal. Now I see this beautiful painted Shiva gift bag every time I get out my journal. 💜☮️💜
Cool idea...isn’t it great when you find the absolute perfect purpose for an item that you have saved? I once saved a tin that some expensive thread snips (sewing tool) were packaged in, and I hung onto that tin for quite a while until I realized that it makes the perfect soap dish.
I’m doing a no buy on clothing/bags/shoes this year (except for replacing items that absolutely need it) and I’m struggling so much more than I thought I would! I’ve definitely slipped up a couple of times. But even with a couple slip ups I’m buying less than I would normally I think!
Hey Sophia... Progress over perfection... it sure makes ya feel good when ya see your own progress and really begin to value the things that you already own, doesn’t it? I think once a person starts buying less, it gets easier with time. Well done!
You're wonderful. And real. I love how this channel has never become fake, and even when you make videos of eg. 100 zero waste xmas purchases, we still see you wearing that nordgreen watch regularly :') loved how chatty you were! And proud of you taking control over your finances.
Im 24 and just starting to learn about my finances as a Freelancer. I'm so overwhelmed but need to do it! ALSO, don't forget mental health is just as important as your physical needs.
Sould really love if you did a video on how it is to live with your parents in your 20s. For a year now I have lived with my family again when this whol thing started after a year abroad and before that I was very inconsistently at home. So after a 3 or so year break it has been an interesting experience to live with my family again. Would be nice to see your experience with it :)
that would be lovely! I'm in my twenties and have been living with my family again ever since the pandemic started. Before that I lived abroad for a year and then studied in a new city for two years, but paying rent for a small room there has become unnecessary now that everything takes place digitally anyways. Would love to see a video like that!
Immy, your maturity and consciousness are so inspiring. I was nowhere near this aware at your age and it took me a lot longer to find my way. I'm so thankful to know that there are younger people like you making changes and having a positive impact on the whole world. Thank you for being vocal about it and using this platform for the greater good.
@@teresamunoz91 I think our generation is facing a whole new scenario than our parents did. So the whole "moving out" thing will happen, but maybe not as we expected from observing older people.
I feel like talking to a good friend while listening to your video. You're awesome and you inspire me to be a better person. Keep shining 🌞💐✨ Love from NB Canada🍁
Hey Ky, I love the positivity and sincerity in your comment. Such kind words, the world needs more of this, and more people like you. Hugs from the other side of 🇨🇦 (the PNW, in BC) 🌸😃
This video comes at the perfect time - I realized that I have a lottttt of unnecessary spendings during the last three months because I just buy stuff out of boredom. So I just adjusted my budget and will have a no buy april (for now) 🥳
I love the calmness of your videos, no drama whatsoever but lots of support, ideas and viewpoints. Have you tried nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol or benzine/cleaner's solvent to get the writing off of the journal front? Or make a cover out of (wrapping) paper or cloth.
Yes, I have to remind myself sometimes that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and savings in my account. I am grateful for what I have in my life and don't need more stuff to make me happy.
Your energy is contagious in this video! Glad you're feeling a bit better. I've been thinking of going low buy this year too and I think I'll really cement that in my habits this year.
Loved this video Immy! Some thoughtful purchases that seem to really be enriching your life. I'd love to see a video with an update on your commonplace book. I remember a video when you were first starting it, but I wonder how it looks now? Would love a journalling update too. Thanks for all you do...love your channels and your humble & thoughtful content xxx
Hey Emma... YEASS... same thoughts/request over here. I, too, would love to see an update on Immy’s Commonplace Book, it looks so intriguing and creative. I remember the video from when it was in its infancy, and I would love to see how it has blossomed over time. I love journaling too, and I love your suggestions. I hope you’re doing OK and having a good day.
This year of Covid was awful. But it did give us time to explore long neglected hobbies and interests. And look deep into ourselves. Please start saving and investing early in your life. My only regret is that I didn't do more of that earlier. Great overview of this past low buy year!
Immy, you inspire me so much and this video was just what I needed right now- not just the finance related talk but the life advice and just you being you! Thank you so much for what you do and I appreciate you 🥰
Loved this video, chatty ones are always lovely for a coffee break For me, lockdown has not been good for my spending habits... Depop shopping became such a comfort/habit in the first lockdown and it has just continued as we keep going in and out of lockdowns. So I'm trying to break that habit at the moment and actually just save. It's surprising how hard breaking the habit has been, but I think I'm slowly getting there. Although I haven't broken the habit of buying books yet.... I work in a book shop and seeing all the amazing and lovely books every day is just too much to handle!
Again it was nice to share this quite minutes with you and listening to you. You seem to be such a friendly, intelligent person. And it feels understand. The thought of minimalism in my life is the thought of healthy habbits and gratefullnes. Stay safe!
“Friendly, intelligent person”... what a lovely compliment. Those are such lovely words that you have put together. Thank-you so much for sharing them. I hope you are doing OK, and having a great day 🌸
Um mushroom coffee? Yum!! And hello!!! Love it!! Also I have just gotten rid of a lot of clothes and other crap that I did NOT need! I am moving for the fifth time in the past two years and I just realize how much stuff I still have and that I don’t use so I am going through it again and it’s going well! Also I love how you touch on budgeting I also just got a big girl job and I am planning a move with my boyfriend next year so I needed a reminder to review my budget! Also congrats on aiming to buy a home!! Good luck!! ❤️
The Joy Luck Club is a favorite book and the movie is also so well done. She is a wonderful writer. I think purchases that help support the habits you are trying to build is money that will pay dividends long term such as the water bottle, weights, the journal.
I totally agree! And what i've found is that I was a lot more thoughtful about these purchases, I really took the time to find the one that worked for me and that I would actually use for a long long time!
instantly feeling good watching this video and listening to your thoughts. Lockdown makes me want to buy more things to compensate social activities and your words really help me reflect on that. Thank you! :)
Your videos are always so inspiring!! And so many useful tips and lessons. Between you and Shelbi, I've learned so much and definitely trying to be much more conscious about my consumption. Knowing where your money is being invested is a great tip; I've really gotta look deeper into where mine is going since it's just automatic each month and making sure it aligns with my values. Thank you for always making me more aware and conscientious of my choices!)
I've been following you for a year now and just want to say a big thank you for all the beautiful, inspiring content. Your videos are always so positive, relaxing and fun. Telling all my friends to get on the Sustainably Vegan train!
Great video as always. You are so authentic. Can I just advise everyone to get a pension? You will not believe this but life goes by so fast - it was only yesterday that I was in my early twenties and now I’m retiring this year aged 60. It went so fast, but I have a great pension so am hoping to have fun times in this new phase of my life x
i'm so happy you're gonna read 'a tale for the time being', it's one of my favorite books and i've never heard anyone talk about it! but i suggest it every time someone asks for book recommendations
I’m excited to read this book too. I live in a really remote area (🇨🇦) in the north, and the town library is tiny but they managed to bring in this book and also a few others for me from another library. That is so cool, and I can’t wait to go town, pick up my books, and dive into the pages 📚. I hope you are having a great day.
Put stickers on top of the "ruined" journal! That's what I did. You can also just print out a nice cover and glue it over as seen over at Karolina Zebrowska's super old How To Fake An Old Book Cover - Super Easy Home Decor 5 min Craft
Thank you so much for this video Immy, very informative! Felt very inspired to try a low buy year as I'm expecting baby n°2 for this autumn and won't be able to work for a few months. Also I just really need to get better at finances haha. I really loved the content, it felt like talking to a friend!
I just decluttered my books and sold 30 on We Buy Books because of you. Thank you so much for this! I love your channel, I learn a lot and I have been applying lots of tips to my life. Keep up the good work! You are very inspiring!💕✨🙏🏻
I'm really interested to hear more about the mushroom coffee! I know it was a super tiny mention but I'd love to hear your thoughts on that and your favorite teas/morning drinks :D
Hey Ellen, great suggestion... I’m interested in hearing about the 🍄 coffee too. I love real coffee (way too much), and I have heard about mushroom coffee but don’t know much about it. I hope you are doing OK, and have a lovely tea or coffee today ☕️
“All acquisitions eventually end in dispersal”... words to live by (imho). I’m trying hard not to acquire stuff and I’m inconsistently succeeding... but someone’s going to be getting a lot of yoyo’s and kendamas eventually. Are there any skill toy enthusiasts out there? Can’t swim for at least another month 🏊♀️, too much❄️, dumbbells might be the thing pour moi, or maybe I should just go work on the woodpile 🪵. I have chosen “A Tale For The Time Being” & “The Joy Luck Club” to read along with you and IBC. AND... I also just gotta say that playing your own piano music to accompany your beautiful videography last week was the quintessential definition of creativity... and it gave the best feels. Thank-you Immy for giving so much of yourself, I appreciate you 🌿💜🪀🥰. PS - I loved this video!!
Hey Eileen, this is a really cool idea you’ve suggested. I think that would make for highly interesting content in a video. I love this! I hope you are having a great day🌸
aahahaha as a fellow 29 year old who is no where close to buying a house I feel you. As I live with a sorority sister who owns her house and my two best friends have also bought their own homes..... the slow clap is a mood
I´m over 30. Don´t live with parents anymore, but renting a place. I can´t buy a house. Don´t have money for that. But I don´t want to either. I got a wild spirit and love to travel and change places I live every few years. At this moment it´s hard though...pandemic and all the stuff around. Can´t wait for this to end so I can spread my wings and fly away...again. Sending hugs and lots of love ♥♥♥ PS: luw all your videos and I´m happy to see that you´re better that in your last vid :) can feel the positive energy
That is so me! Thanks for sharing. All my friends are buying houses and starting families, and here I am, 31 and single, ready to take on the world 😄 greetings from Germany!
This video is helpful for someone planning a busget. I am saving to buy a house, because I live at home too and am getting that independent house bug lately
Absolutely loved seeing my name in all caps at the beginning of the video😂. That it’s also some awesome savings plan just made it that much better☺️. Love this video🥰 Also, an addition to both your book collection AND getting swole...I highly recommend the book “Roar”. It’s all about the physiological differences between men and women with regards to fitness and exercise. An AMAZING book!!
My no but has been easier in some ways. U have bought very little in clothes for the whole family due to virtual school since last March. We have been able to save more. I did make purchases but much less regret. Chickens, garden, sustainable replacements for so many every items. Just need to work on my hobby.
Nice calm video :) i failed on my no buy year this week.. I wanted to sell my shoes, but to do that I needed to go on Depop... I sold my shoes, but I was down the rabbithole, I think I bought 15 clothing items.. oops.. I know secondhand apps are my shopping weakness.. feel stupid about it now..
Living at home is probably one of the most economical things you can do! Saving the rent money allowed me to pay off my student loans in the last year. (Granted, I had the privilege of not paying even a small amount of rent before landing a full-time job and still living at home.)
Is this low-buying behaviour? Genuine question. I love Immy's videos, so I need to stress I am being completely, completely, genuine in asking this. I would actually never buy this much in two and a half months. However, I didn't realise that would be considered against the grain. I couldn't buy this much stuff because of the cost involved. I've never had much money. It's not because I'm some hyper aware, self-sustaining, in control person. The times in which I've suddenly had a good job for a while and been able to work full-time instead of part-time, I've probably bought as much as in this video. I'm terrible about not buying things when I'm travelling, too. I would actually like to buy more things, if I'm honest, even though I care very much for sustainability. It does get a bit exhausting waiting several weeks or even months to buy something, after the moment one realises that one needs or really wants something... Although I've been told that's a good practice. I've had only one pair of cheap shoes for 4 years now, and that's definitely something I need to get around to replacing, since they're starting to wear through. I feel like that's a priorities issue for me, since I have bought other things during that time, obviously. It's just that I have a pair of shoes, and they're serving me well, so I keep putting it off to get something I don't have. I really related to Immy's reset video recently, and I think I can understand completely where she was coming from on the materialism front. I'm not sure who I'd even become if I had things given to me all the time. As it is, RUclips can be a strange place for someone who rarely buys things, or doesn't always have the choice about what they want to buy (e.g. KleanKanteen versus ugly or difficult to open plastic water bottle). So much online seems to be about stuff, and vloggers always seem to have something new to talk about it, but I guess it would become old for viewers to see the same things discussed endlessly, unchangeing.
Thanks for the video! You always give me material to reflect on. One question: what do you do with your old journals? I feel sad to trow them away but also... when am I ever going to read them again? And I live in a very small flat and try to be as minimalist as I can. Thanks a lot! A big hug from Barcelona
Really lovely video, fab to see you energised. I'm such a an ostrich when it comes to finance, it's good to learn that there are stocks and shares ISAs that can be responsible, I'll definitely look into it. If you have any resources to share, it would be appreciated. Also, commonplace book?
“An ostrich”... that is such a good one Steph!! This made my day 😂!! I’m still giggling... I can certainly think of a few of things in my life that I’m “an ostrich” over. Thanks for this one... and a commonplace book is a cool little pastime and keepsake. Do you keep a commonplace book?
Thank you for sharing! I am planning to learn about managing finances and stocks, too. So far it sounds really complicated and not jet realistic for my budget.
Invisible women is an incredible book!! For a fiction read, I recommend The Overstory by Richard Powers, it follows nine characters whose lives are all connected to each other by their personal connections to trees and the natural world. I think you'd really enjoy it Immy :)
I'm trying to have a low buy year but as someone who likes to buy things, it's harder than I thought. So far, my goals for this year are to not buy makeup at all, buy less books and clothes but also food. I tend to buy a lot of food and even tho I don't waste food, I have way more than I could eat. So definitely less of all of that.
Hi Immy! I feel you with the non-fiction book rut, I'm in the same boat. I'm curious about your opinion on buying books to support local bookstores & authors versus checking out through a local library. I usually do the latter, but sometimes I really like owning a book!!
I have an old water bottle that I use for myself, I bought a small purple Kleen Kanteen for my almost 2 year old; I'm jealous of a lot of her things, but that water bottle, oof, I can't wait for mine to die so that I can get a matching one! X
Buy all the books Immy. ALL. THE. BOOKS. Helps if they're FSC-certified :) I'm likely going to switch banks soon, as I'm currently with RBC but I've heard they support fossil fuel subsidies so no thank you. Started my pension last summer (I was blessed to work outside) and it's great. Only buying what is necessary makes the day a little bit brighter

I got so excited when you mentioned A Tale for the Time Being!! It is absolutely beautiful, and now I want to reread it as soon as possible!
Enjoyed your humor as well as the content. Thanks!
Glad to hear it!
I read the Joy Luck Club when I was about 15 and LOVED IT!
Lovely ted talk haha Happy for all you've been learning, Immy
Thank you! 😃haha
I can heavily related to the books, I did the exact same thing!
Put stickers on top of the "ruined" journal! That's what I did. You can also just print out a nice cover and glue it over as seen over at Karolina Zebrowska's super old How To Fake An Old Book Cover - Super Easy Home Decor 5 min Craft
I loved your chatty video..we really need people with the energy you have❤love from Greece
The lifestyle sustainability thing changed my perspective about finances thank you
I’d love it if you did more on stocks/pension/money in general! I have absolutely no idea where to start and I’d love to learn! Sending hugs 💕
Maybe connect with money youtubers and do a sustainable finance collab if its not something you feel confident talking about
I'm really interested to hear more about the mushroom coffee!
I read The Joy Luck Club for class in highschool and loved it!
I think it'd be cool if you did a video on disconnecting, and what that's meant and done for you.. lovee your videos!!!
Sending hugs and lots of love ♥♥♥
PS: luw all your videos and I´m happy to see that you´re better that in your last vid :) can feel the positive energy
That is so me! Thanks for sharing. All my friends are buying houses and starting families, and here I am, 31 and single, ready to take on the world 😄 greetings from Germany!
I loved Joy Luck Club the movie did it no justice. Also you look glowing!
This video is helpful for someone planning a busget. I am saving to buy a house, because I live at home too and am getting that independent house bug lately
ahh I REALLY hear you!! good luck xx
Absolutely loved seeing my name in all caps at the beginning of the video😂. That it’s also some awesome savings plan just made it that much better☺️. Love this video🥰
Also, an addition to both your book collection AND getting swole...I highly recommend the book “Roar”. It’s all about the physiological differences between men and women with regards to fitness and exercise. An AMAZING book!!
Good vibes on this channel
My no but has been easier in some ways. U have bought very little in clothes for the whole family due to virtual school since last March. We have been able to save more. I did make purchases but much less regret. Chickens, garden, sustainable replacements for so many every items. Just need to work on my hobby.
Love your videos, thank you 😁
Invisible Women is amazing!! Actually, its really sad and frustrating, but an amazing book!
love your videos :) a link to the video youre constantly referring to would be nice next time :) love from germany!
👏 for the books! I think you'll love ,,The Joy luck club"
Love your content! I have to admit I come here for the video...and your voice. I would love to have your voice for audiobook.
Put a sticker on your journal to cover Emi's Idea!!!! Love your videos!!
So inspiring as always Immy!! Thanks!!!
Thank you
Loved the video as always. Can’t wait to hear about the books you got. Also, I adore Beauty and Seoul, Marie is so lovely 💕💕
I really love your channel. You are really inspirational. X
Thanks for the video! You always give me material to reflect on. One question: what do you do with your old journals? I feel sad to trow them away but also... when am I ever going to read them again? And I live in a very small flat and try to be as minimalist as I can. Thanks a lot! A big hug from Barcelona
Added 2 of the books to my realing list. Thank you
Really lovely video, fab to see you energised.
Thanks Immy this was a lovely video.👍👍❤
Glad you enjoyed it xx
Thank you for sharing! I am planning to learn about managing finances and stocks, too. So far it sounds really complicated and not jet realistic for my budget.
Invisible women is an incredible book!! For a fiction read, I recommend The Overstory by Richard Powers, it follows nine characters whose lives are all connected to each other by their personal connections to trees and the natural world. I think you'd really enjoy it Immy :)
The book “Greenwood” sounds just like that! It’s fiction too. I rly liked it
wow great video 😊 love your channel
Have you considered getting a kindle or kobo? I don’t buy books anymore because I connect it to a library app! Been a game changer
Oh so needed to see this video 💚💚
I'm trying to have a low buy year but as someone who likes to buy things, it's harder than I thought. So far, my goals for this year are to not buy makeup at all, buy less books and clothes but also food. I tend to buy a lot of food and even tho I don't waste food, I have way more than I could eat. So definitely less of all of that.
put stickers on your journal to cover it up!
I can't believe I didn't think of this...
@@SustainablyVegan it's a win-win. you get to get rid of your writing and you get to support artists!
Hi Immy! I feel you with the non-fiction book rut, I'm in the same boat. I'm curious about your opinion on buying books to support local bookstores & authors versus checking out through a local library. I usually do the latter, but sometimes I really like owning a book!!
I loved this video, thank you 😊
I have an old water bottle that I use for myself, I bought a small purple Kleen Kanteen for my almost 2 year old; I'm jealous of a lot of her things, but that water bottle, oof, I can't wait for mine to die so that I can get a matching one! X
Buy all the books Immy. ALL. THE. BOOKS. Helps if they're FSC-certified :)
I'm likely going to switch banks soon, as I'm currently with RBC but I've heard they support fossil fuel subsidies so no thank you. Started my pension last summer (I was blessed to work outside) and it's great. Only buying what is necessary makes the day a little bit brighter
