    Thanks, I did this mod today, asides from looking nice it feels so much better! Whilst I was in there I soldered a better wire onto the speaker, stuck some black card to the back and edges of the screen, used glue dots to stop the shoulder buttons clacking so much and a tiny bit of purple acetate over the ON light so that it stops *_burning my retinas._*
    I couldn’t do anything useful with the SNES D-Pad rubber buttons, but I did find that adding a line of rubber tape to the outside edge of where the ‘fake speaker holder’ pushes onto the back of stuff made the left & up on the original D-Pad a tad more responsive by supporting the board a bit better in that area.
    It just stops it bending backwards so easily there is all, so all the directions feel the same under the thumb. Oh and it maybe improves diagonals a lil bit, but I’m not sure.
    Someday I want to try to add either an earphone jack or a Bluetooth board, I’ve seen videos, it looks doable, and just out of personal curiosity I may attempt a ’subwoofer’ mod!
    If it works, I’ll make a video, if not, well, I was obviously just kidding! ;)

    • @Lumibear.
      @Lumibear. 9 месяцев назад

      The sound mod worked! I made a video, it’s not on on this channel it’s on a spare I have, so anyone interested can look for : ‘ Adding Haptic Bass To An SF2000 ‘ , the description has a link to the mini resonance speaker I used.
      There’s not much by way of actual instructions because it’s pretty obvious really, although after some experimentation I found sticking it on with a glue dot helped reduce speaker rattle when the bass gets a bit too full-on (I think maybe the surrounding case of the speaker was too close to the case of the game’s, seeing as it curves around) but these things are often individual taste and adjustment.
      Anyhoo, now my SF2000 gives sensory feedback to shots, explosions and drums!

      @@reynangan8746 well it has one use, if you get no screen at least you know you have power, but it’s such a dumb place for it.
      I’ve just dimmed it so well that if I’m playing indoors in daylight I need to put a hand over to cast a shadow in order to see it. I’m ok with that.

    Thank you for the tutorial!
    I have a speaker mod reference for any one who is interested:
    The next board revision has horizontal red wire left black wire right solder points for the speaker.
    The SF2000 speaker is a 28mm Game Boy DMG type, 0.5W 16 ohms. A low profile 1W 8 ohm 23mm aftermarket black spiral groove type GBC/GBA speaker works fine with the device after extensive testing. A 28mm speaker of the same type might fit in the speaker slot. Also, a Funnyplaying Game Boy DMG speaker is the same size but lower profile and is a tight fit after filing off the outer positioning tab.

    • @JewTubeDon
      @JewTubeDon Год назад +1

      @@amw4736 I didn't make a video sorry. I added a second one in series. Two 8 ohm in series makes the impedance 16 ohms like the original speaker. The space for the empty speaker can be be cut away with a red hot knife and the holes can be done with a red hot paper clip. You can use duct tape to hold down the speaker. If the wires interfere with the shell so it's closing tight, the D-pad response will be affected.

    Cool vid! I just picked up a SF2000 purely to display on a shelf. I love how it looks, so similar to a SNES controller. Good to know you could improve it even more! I'll wait with modding till it gets some better firmware though (so it can actually play the SNES games)..

      @@kasanovasloan I found a 3400mAh replacement battery online, as noted below it's a 18650 battery. I think you need one with a button contact though may work without. In the UK at least they are kinda hard to find without being bundled with a charger and often more batteries, but I avoided Amazon and eBay and found more dedicated battery suppliers. It wasn't too expensive and lasts perhaps twice as long on a charge as the battery it ships with.

    Hi OP I have a question. In your video it seems to be very seamless. But when I open mine, the "analog" stick is prevent it from totally opening the case. I see yours seems to be removed at one point, but I do not see when you did that. Did you cut the video and skip the part? Could you tell me how to remove the stick? Is it just straight pull out from the top by force? Thanks in advance.

  • @TygonBC
    @TygonBC Год назад +2

    Great video. Do the buttons and D pad feel softer and less clicky as a result? I like the SF2000 but the D pad especially is a bit clunky, not as easy to find diagionals as it should be, and the little thumb stick is the opposite, a little sloppy. Shame nothing can be done about the shoulder buttons but those seem to be just microswitches fixed/soldered to the board. Your mod also resolves the issue with the convex and concave buttons being in the wrong positions 🙂 I've already upgraded the battery, need to look at the firmware update to fix some of those key mapping issues (maybe set some others manually) but will have a crack at this mod also!

    • @JewTubeDon

      The mod in the video is worth it but the D-pad sits lower than an original SNES controller so the diagonals are worse than SNES for fighting moves but a lot better than the original Datafrog
