Thank you all for watching!
Yamaha should have had this as a factory option! Looks extremely unique and the bike looks really good out in the sun. Solid instructional video.
Thank you!
China has a cafe light version available
I will pay you to install this on mine also the front fairing
Excellent job filming and explaining things
Really appreciate the positive comment and for the support. 👊🏽
The clip-on handle bar
The display
The front suspension
The looks
So awesome
I just bought a used one a few days ago. In person the bike is so much smaller than I thought it would be but it's also got this huge frame that dominates the whole bike in a way that doesn't really come across in pictures.
It does have a very predominant exposed aluminum frame but I think it helps with the aesthetic. When you look at even a current gen XSR700 it just has a simple tubular frame which looks basic and dated. The 900 frame looks much better and fits the aesthetic more appropriately as well.
Bravo! Well done and concise without omitting any important details. Great editing/explanations.
Now we need an, on the road video with a second camera (non-first person) view of the bike.
Appreciate it man, thank you for your support. 🙏🏽.
I like the way you explain things.
Thank you! I try to be as clear as possible so others can have the confidence to perform these same modifications on their own.
Great video gentlemen. I just installed the clip ons yesterday and your video helped a lot. Install was honestly pretty easy. One thing I will add about the triple tree clamp cover. Although the fit was very tight for the cover to go on, if it’s placed on there straight & level and both sides are pushed down equally by hand… it goes down effortlessly, no mallet required.
For others planning on installing these clip ons:
A good practice is to take pictures of what things looked like before disassembly.
That helped a lot with reassembly of the clutch side being a little more complicated with more parts involved.
Cheers
Awesome! So glad the video was helpful to you. That’s why we make these.
Great tip on the top plate there. We thought we had it nice and level, but it’s very possible we didn’t since your experience was quite different than ours and you didn’t need a mallet.
Thanks again for the feedback, enjoy your clip-ons.
I love the look of this bike.
Yo! This is an awesome video, Ky. I actually have this exact set of S2 clip-ons on my bike currently. I purchased them from your buddy.
I installed them last night and this video made the install a breeze! The only issue that I had is that I had to slightly modify my throttle-side Brogue bar end because the length of the S2 bar is just slightly shorter than the stock bar. The Brogue bar end has a slight recess where it attaches to the bar and it was making contact with the throttle grip when fully tightened, causing the throttle to stick.
I used a plastic washer/gasket (like for a garden hose) to take up the recessed space in the bar end and voila! It works perfectly.
Thanks again, and keep up the good work!
Awesome man! Glad the video was helpful and your install went smoothly. 👊🏽. These XSR’s are a lot better with clip-ons. Looks way better and you have less wind buffering since you aren’t sitting straight up and down anymore.
Great video, I love the look of this kit!
Awesome. Glad the video was helpful!
sick sick sick bike man!
Thank you! And thank you for watching.
Great video work, thanks. I prefer the clip on set up and made the move to S-2, it’s great. For those who don’t like it you definitely won’t like Yamaha’s new GP version of the XSR900 where they gave it factory clipons in approx the same place as the S-2s. It’s nice to have options.
Thank you for the compliment. I agree, S2 concept clip one change the whole look of the bike. Looks way better than the goofy handlebars. Can’t have a cafe racer with handlebars!
Just picked up my new 2023 XSR900 a few hours ago. $1500 off the original price, couldn't say no to it.
Wow! Great pick up at that price. Even at full sticker it’s a lot of bike for the price. Getting $1500 off just sweetens it. Hope you enjoy your new XSR! Although it’s kinda hard not to enjoy these bikes.
Love your vid. This is my next bike after now on MT09 2016
Sweet. If you are coming off an older MT09, you will definitely enjoy a newer XSR. Similar in many ways but improved enough to make it worth it to go from your MT09.
Picking up an xsr900 soon! Could you do more videos with it?
Congratulations on the soon to be XSR900. I will surely be doing more videos on the XSR very soon. We are still collecting parts for it at the moment. Thank you for watching!
Brilliant video
Thank you for watching! Appreciate the positive comment.
Got my Kelpi exhaust on w my lower bars love it now
Awesome! How do you like the Kelpi? And how did your clip on install go? Thanks for the update BTW.
@@ridewithKY bars went on easy, about 1 hour, feel really good, if it’s to mow I will add a spacer and longer bolts but think it’s good, the Kelpi is great w the baffle in
Awesome man great to hear your experience was good. If you really look at the position of the clip ons in relation to the seat, it’s still a pretty mild seating position. Definitely doable for an everyday bike. Glad you are enjoying your Kelpi exhaust also.
that looks hella clean!
Appreciate it, thank you!
How is the comfort man? You should make a video about it. Great video btw!
I actually think it’s more comfortable now but it may just be because I’m used to super sports. Upright seating position just feels strange to me. Plus the wind buffering is crazy with any upright seating position.
We will do a video on the seating position for sure, great idea. Thank you for watching and for the compliment!
Yeah I'd love a video of how it looks on the road and how it handles! That would be awesome
Will for sure be getting to this soon. Hopefully the weather cooperates and I can get that done for you folks. Thank you!
Sick mod man👌🏼
Could you take some POV riding shots?
Thank you! For sure will be doing this soon.
I ordered these bars after seeing your video, also already had the TST tail tidy ordered, what pipe you looking at? I ordered the Kelpi short in bronze from Australia and the Ermak front fairing from France
Right on, so glad this video was helpful to you. We are looking at an SC project CRT but haven’t landed on anything 100% yet. If you can do you mind letting me know how you like that Kelpi exhaust once you get it? Thank you for watching!
@@ridewithKY shipped out today, be happy to let you know, google ermak front end to comes painted to match, completes the cafe look really, I was also looking at his seats from Kelpi I hear he will customize them to what you want.
Awesome! I’d really appreciate that update whenever you get a chance. Have heard good things about all things Kelpi.
Will definitely have to change the seat on this bike also. Everybody always comments how ugly the seat is. 😂.
I'm waiting for the clip-ons to arrive, but I still don't know whether to install it or send it to the shop. I did mount my full exhaust system alone and it wasn't that hard, but I'm afraid that I'll run into some problems regarding the brake and clutch lever. Any thoughts?
If you follow this video you will be fine. Just take your time. If you have an extra set of hands that will help also. I don’t think you’ll have an issue man.
@@ridewithKY Thank you, will be mounting it later today. I want more videos with the XSR 😉
This cafe racer is absolute god tier 🆒 like when trunks turned super Saiyan and destroyed freezas final form
Hahaha. Thank you!
nice video. Looks good, but i guess comfort would be compimised quite a bit. Also with this option the sweep is fixed.
I guess it’s because I’m used to clip-ons but I surprisingly think it’s more comfortable now. That upright riding position is really windy for me, but again might just be because I’m so used to super sports. Since the seat height is low still, there’s not too much pressure on the back and wrists. Cheers man, thanks for watching.
@@ridewithKY Purely aesthetically it looks much better!. I had an 21 MT09 SP and first thing I did was lower the handlebars. Now I am looking to buy a 22 XSR900. I rode a friend's 17 Tuono and I would say that has the perfect riding position for the street.
You won’t be disappointed with the 22 XSR900 if you do end up on one. Agree on the Tuono’s, not too straight up and down but not as committed as a super sport. Tuono’s are nice too because they have that little windscreen so you aren’t getting annihilated on the freeway.
how would you rate the comfort of the new position vs stock handlebars? long rides ok for someone about 5'11 in your opinion?
I actually think it’s better with the clip-ons. I hate wind buffering and with the factory handlebars you get blasted on the freeway. With the clip-ons you are in a little better position for your torso to not act as a sail. The seat is also low enough to where if you needed to sit upright it’s no big deal to just let go with one hand and sit completely straight up and down.
Absolutely would be fine on long rides, the position is nowhere near as aggressive as a super sport. It’s also less aggressive than most naked bikes because the seat is so low. Hope that helps.
Great video! Is the final setup with clip ons more narrow compared to stock?
Even though it looks more narrow, it’s actually the same width. I was surprised when we measured it. I was almost certain it was narrower. Thanks man for watching.
@@ridewithKY thanks for confirming that!
No problem!
Super vidéo ! Merci !!!😊
Thank you so much!
How long did the S2 clip ons take to reach you
Took about a week. It was a lot quicker than we thought considering it was coming from France.
That top plate are a bit too tight on the suspensions in my opinion. Clip-on are a great idea though on the xsr
Great video.
Thank you for watching!
Sorry if I missed it, but are the handlebars hollow or threaded like the oem bars? I know you have the stock mirrors on, but don't know if you needed an adapter. Mine is coming soon and want to run different mirrors.
They are threaded. So you can run the stock bar ends with the clip-ons if you want to.
@@ridewithKY thanks for the reply. I'll be switching mine out with different mirrors for sure.
@kforeal6809 no problem at all! Probably a good idea honestly. The factory mirrors are pretty bulky.
Do the mirrors touch the tank if the steering is turned all the way to one side or another?
When the mirrors are properly adjusted to be used in a real world scenario they do not touch at full lock both ways. I found that when lane filtering/splitting and/or storing the bike you can also fold the mirrors to be flush with the end of the bar ends and they still do not touch the tank at full lock both ways as well.
The only time the mirrors may hit the tank at full lock is when the mirrors are adjusted at an odd angle which makes it unusable or unnecessary for storage and lane splitting. If you are to do this then just be careful.
@@ASBP12 Doh, I just figured out how to fold the mirrors after you told me they could actually be folded inward.
Thank you for explaining that clearly @asbp9146. You’d basically have to adjust the mirrors in such a way to purposely try to hit the tank.
How about the turning angle?
There’s plenty of clearance to go lock to lock so the steering angle is the same. Thank you.
Do the clip on bars touch the reservoir when you full turn it ?
I assume there was something a little lost in translation. But I think you may be referring to the gas tank? If so, the clip on bars do not interfere with the gas tank. Hope that helps! Thank you.
it's very unfortunate, I can't read any responses to comments on this channel. could you make a short video to show the use of this new handlebar with your feedback of sensations when you ride and show if it touches the tank when it touches the stops? big thanks !
Thank you so much for your answer that helps a lot and sorry for my poor english !
Kind regards
Yes I will be doing a video on how it rides with the clip-ons. Hope when that comes out it will be helpful for you.
No need to apologize for your English. We are communicating with each other just fine. It’s no problem at all!
beautiful!!! i have the 2021 is a good bike!!
Yes it is! Great bikes!
Dope vids. Not alot of content on this bike out there
Appreciate it, thank you for the support!
@ridewithKY due a vid of tips and tricks that you discovered with the bike !!🫶
I’m looking into converting my triumph trident from handle bar to clip ons like this project. Does anyone know what’s a good place to start looking for what would be needed to accomplish this project
Anyone know of a video where anyone put actual REAL clip ons and rear sets on this model?
RUclips has a search function at the top…
Gotta see her drive
Well he doing that in the future. Thanks for watching.
The s2 concept site only seems to go up to 2021 models. Assuming that's not true?
www.s2-concept.com/en/19898-yamaha-xsr-900-complete-handlebar-set-and-fork-top-bridge.html
@@ridewithKYthank you! Not sure why I couldn't find that. Appreciate it.
Might as well get a sports bike. Dont understand the benefit. Stocks good with hindsight mirrors and keep the comfort but hey people seem to be into aftermarket bars . I enjoyed your tutorial thou. You guys seem to have experience.
It’s more for aesthetics than anything. Café racers traditionally had clip ons. Only functional difference is you get less wind buffering because you aren’t sitting so straight up and down. Wind buffering is just a naked bike thing and not exclusive to XSR’s. I think eventually you get used to the wind buffering but since I am used to fully faired bikes, it’s tough acclimating to the wind resistance of nakeds.
Appreciate you watching, and appreciate the feedback.
I get it. Cafe racer. Racing with the wind 😂. Good ans. Cheers bro.
@ridewithKY how can I get in touch with you outside of RUclips? I have a SFV4S and two Svartpilens, one of which I’m converting to a track bike. Would love to ask you a few questions if you have an email or other contact?
Feel free to get in contact with me through instagram. @ridewith_ky is my handle. I’m surely no expert but whatever knowledge I do have, I’d be happy to share it with you.
Thank you for watching and for your support!
I see a lots of cool bike's
Especially the Ducati
Thank you! Going to be another bike joining the channel very shortly.
bravo
Thank you!
I always find it funny that naked bikes owners convert naked bikes to sport bikes but naked bikes are sport bikes converted to universal bikes.... there's a reason why the bars are not in a aggressive position. the bikes are meant for street and twisty roads, not tracks or 150+ miles on a highway.
Changing from handlebars to clip ons doesn’t make a naked into a sport bike…
Even Yamaha calls these XSR’s a neo-retro cafe racers. Cafe racers are supposed to have clip-ons.
😂yeah needs a Kickstarter 🤺🦕🐒
😂😂😂
Don’t threaten me with a good time. Might have to swap the fuel injection for carburetors while I’m at it. 😂.
Looks good..! But man def doesn’t look comfortable 😅😅
Sometimes it’s tough trying to look 😎. Haha. For sure lose some comfort but it’s not too bad surprisingly. I think it’s the low seat height compared with the slight rise on these clip-ons. Definitely not near as committed as a typical super sport.
Not for guys over 40. :D
😂😂😂.
I’ve seen many stupid mods to the xsr900 but this one together with fairings are the dumbest
Guess you like sitting straight up and down like a dork. 😂.
Exactly, otherwise I would have bought another bike than an xsr900. Get the damn bike made for the purpose it’s meant for
The purpose of an XSR900 is to sit straight up and down? Changing the position of the grips doesn’t alter the bikes purpose.
Aah man what have you done 😮😔😔
That was a gorgeous looking bike , you've made it ugly 😢
Some people are so dramatic. 😂.
That little bit of weight is totally irrelevant,, seriously, why even worrry about it..
Nobody asked you. It’s data, simple as that.
Dramatic ??
How so ???
I merely noticed how ugly you made a very attractive bike and spent $700 doing it , 😢 money well spent 👏 👌
If you were going for the look of an XSR 900 with no handlebars you definitely achieved that look , I personally like the look of bikes with handlebars 😂😂
Enjoy mate 👍 👌
Should have done before and after pics 😉 just saying like 👍
For one thing it didn’t cost $700. So that’s the first thing you got wrong. Second, the XSR900 is supposed to be a cafe racer, no? When is the last time you saw a cafe racer with handlebars?
@@ridewithKY
Mate that bike looks BAD 👎
It looks like it has NO handlebars??
But hey it doesn't matter what I think if you like it with no handlebars thats your choice mate , its not personal 😉
Not everyone likes the same thing and your video is actually outstanding 👌 👏
I am just very straight, enjoy your ride pal
It looks like it has no handlebars because it doesn’t have handlebars. 😂. Cafe racers are supposed to have clip ons. Always been that way, always will be.
Should probably read the other comments too… Regardless, thanks for watching.
😂😂
