This dude hides his pain with laughs. Hope he has a life full of happiness and no more pain. He ain't a bad dude he just been dropped in a mean f**king world
That laugh is reliving every moment. That laugh is knowing you went through some crazy shit and your new found happiness for life and the present moment.
You can tell the guys been threw it his anxiety is crazy and the ptsd. He talks like he’s waited so long to express himself and is finally able to after leaving that old life behind ! Congrats Boss
@@iTsTHumpa I don’t think that was the original plan but Richard was done with the show he kind of eludes to it in this interview so they killed his character
“Just f****** be there for your children you dumb*****… be there…love them…listen… it’s not complicated”… 🔥 chills down my spine. I am a martial arts instructor and a music instructor and I can attest to what he said.. many students just want to be heard… that’s all they need sometimes to change their day… I am always ready to look them in the eyes and listen to them. Richard Cabral… 🔥
I feel him. My mom passed away when I was 12 and not even a month later my dad left with his friend. But I still got my girls. My everything. It's like a life we wish we could live that never did
Idk, maybe. Coming from my own VERY fucked up history of drugs/booze/fights/death, the last thing I wanna do is re-live it. I get what you’re sayin though
Bro we Mexicans are resilient. Our entire history from the Aztec empire to New Spain, the revolutions and wars to the forming of Mexico. To Oppression and living in silence here in the US cause we don't know the English language. And being afraid to speak up. We are so used to living in trauma and pain. War and abandonment and families being seperated for hundreds of years and it still goes on to this day. Us mexicans still fight with one another like the ancient mesoamericans back in the mayan days. Its in our music bro. Its our entire culture and what makes us Mexican. We never once knew peace. Thats what makes us so strong and that's why Richard Cabral is awesome cause he is speaking ad channeling generations of trauma and pain us Mexicans suffer and go through in Enlish. And thats why we keep pushing and moving forward cause we know our pain live our pain everyday and it makes us strong and we arent afraid to relive it.
Richards a real one.. built him a few motorcycles with Dirtbags and had him at a couple bike shows in our booth. down to earth, funny ass dude, lot of fun to have around. He's my mom's favorite character from Mayans MC so he hopped on a FaceTime call with her and made her day. I got a lot of respect for him
Cabral and Shia interviews were the best for me. Great sharing. Love it when people dig deep for honesty and don’t give care about judgement from others. Fake people suck.
I've listened to the audio version at least 10 times, and it never gets old. I discovered Richard on American Crime, and I've been excited to see him pop up in anything new ever since. As a Mexican, Richard gives us a reason to be proud of where we come from, shows us that all your bad choices in life don't have to be the end of your life, if you want to change, you have to fight for it. He's a legend in the make, making mexicans proud of 🇲🇽
I’m not Mexican, I’m white. But I love y’all! Strongest pound for pound, and they work hard as hell like terminators all with a smile on their face! Working with them as a minority, I can say since I’m also a hard worker, that I get nothing but love, and I’ve met such nice homies, that always try to encourage you! Yeah I have nothing against Mexico or their people! ✌🏻❤️
Jon and Richard caught lightning in a bottle. You can feel Richard's intestity through the screen, you can hear his raw emotion. Jon was the perfect compliment. He listened and asked questions when needed. I felt utter heart break hearing Richard's story but also proud that he bettered himself and didn't allow his bad decisions be the end of his life. Top 5 podcast episode of the year, if not number 1 for me.
@@usernotfound904 ha that's all I could think this whole interview. Regardless it is always good to hear someone else's view on things. When I see guys like Richard, I'm grateful that I got a life change before going through all that. I grew up in South Central LA and I'm convinced if my uncle didn't hit it at the horse track and make that $20 grand to put down as a down payment for a house in Santa Fe Springs, CA. I might be dead or in prison, it is the life you live. Like Richard said it's crazy once you realize there's another world and one where it's not so messed up and toxic. I talk to everyone I can and always try to give everyone good advice and share whatever I've learned so that maybe they take something and learn from me and my mistakes in life. Try to give them another mindset. Life has been a crazy rollercoaster especially being on both sides of the world. Growing up in crime ridden, gang, drug infested community to working with and having met some of the most influential and rich people. Just 2 completely different worlds and if only they knew.
I hope Richard see this. From one only child that went through the lifestyle to another, I SEE YOU, I HEAR YOU & I FEEL YOU! The type of loneliness that we experience in life is very unique & when we work through our trauma it becomes a skill, a powerful one. God bless the streets and the people in them because they’re the ones that need them the most and I know for a fact that this interview will change the life of at least 1 youngster who stumbles upon it. Que viva our beautiful raza & the eastside of course 🖤
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen in my life this gentleman’s passion is beautifully heartbreaking… and Jon’s deep sense of curiosity is so transparent he can talk with few words it’s amazing
Man when he talked about being there for your children. The emotion coming off him it’s like at that moment he was talking to his dad, the anger the sadness. That was pure heart talk and I feel that 100 percent growing up without at father until my stepdad came in and I’m grateful for him.
John , Richard. I would like to thank you for this session. I have a 20 yr old son who is lost. He seen this and he can relate to Richard 100%. Thank you both for sharing its saving him .
From Baby Jokes to Mr.Richard Cabral. Growing up I used to listen to Baby Jokes in Charlie Row Campo. It makes me proud to see Chicanos coming from nothing are making it big. This interview is so heartfelt and real. With my husband going through similar struggles it hits home hard. Sending much love
I'm grateful I watched this today - I lost my job yesterday and have been in deep thought about what I want to do with my life. Thank you Richard and Jon for this. Every day is beautiful, a wonderful gift, another opportunity to not only get back up, but to ascend to an even HIGHER level than before. Have a blessed day, everyone.
@Media Mania Network I understand exactly what you mean - of course his pain & experiences are his own, but his ability to articulate his emotions allows us a genuine glimpse into what he's been through. GODLY energy indeed.
It doesn’t get views because you have to verify your age on your primary account. I did it several times and it kept getting an error message. I finally got it on my mobile device using a vpn and cast it on my tv. I immediately wanted to watch it, but RUclips wasn’t having it. Great interview. Raw and real. Affected me like Shia’s interview.
This podcast or whatever needs a freaking EMMY/OSCAR AWARD. THIS IS BEYOND ME IN THE TRANSPARENCY AND CANDOR AND QUESTIONING OF THE DYNAMICS OF LIFE AND CONSEQUENCE. GOD CONTINUE TO COVER AND BLESS THESE 2 BEAUTIFUL STRONG MEN. 🙏🏾💕
So many tell stories. So many want to live this life, but don’t. This man lived it on a daily. His passion and transparency and the hurt is shown with every word. He has a lot of knowledge in his dome, mixed with darkness. So, much respect Richard. 🤎
48:16 There isn't any motivational speech that gives me more motivation, hope and positivity than this guy's smile. Jon is a great interviewer , during this 118 minutes interview he asked about 10 questions and didn't interupt him once. Best interview I've ever watched.
This interview is the epitome of never judge a book by its cover or by the first few pages. Honest to God, the struggles is unfortunate but it’s motivating and inspiring. Top 3 interviews I’ve watched in 2022 this far
This discussion should have 50 million views. The young world needs to know what reality sounds like! This man is pouring his heart out about reality in inner cities! It sounds like he’ll! God bless him
I think alot of people dont know his name , Ive seen him in countless of movies , and The Mayans , but when I saw him on Law & Order Svu I made it a point to learm his name , and I found out he opened his coffee shop , and is doing very well for himself .. all these years I didnt know his name !! And now , I wont forget it , especially die to this interview .
Here I am. 31yr educated Mexican American, married w/ a beautiful family. I'm beyond grateful I'm able to understand EVERYTHING he speaks of and be able to give my family a different world thanks to my childhood and teen years. It's so easy to stay in that lifestyle.
If you just listen he’s a modern day poet. His way of speaking is raw & beautiful & although our lives are completely different I can recognize the pain he’s sharing with us. Thank you for being open & keeping it real.
What an awesome interview. So much raw, honest and lived emotion from Richard. Children look up to their parents, they need to feel loved, supported, protected, guided and heard. Richard had no positive role models, he was a product of his environment yet he managed to turn his life around, what a beautiful story. Jon just listened and at the end it looked like he was about to cry. He was so proud of Richard, so proud of how far he had come and how he stands on his values. I was spell bound watching this. Jon was so proud to be a part of Richard’s journey. Both amazing humans
This hit home. I was part of a gang intervention program & they took us to Homeboy Industries. We all hated each other b/c it was a mix of youth from different gangs. What Father G shared with us and seeing how so many ex-gang members were thriving stuck with many of us. I went through a lot of pain and suffering coming from a broken home full of gang members but I’ve now taken the steps to build the life I want that will harm no one & have celebrated 3 years of sobriety. I still check on the ppl from that trip from time to time & many are doing great while we have lost others. I wish every child could grow up in a home filled with love, care and compassion so that no kid like me will have to seek love & validation from violence in the streets. Forever proud of Richard Cabral.
I heard about you guys!! i worked at rethreaded in Jax, fl.. same idea but w women coming out the game(sex trade,etc).. I loved the videos I seen about the ministry!!
This man and Joseph Raymond Lucero are the men that saved my life. I'm a firefighter now and a year sober. Thank you Richie for being the amazing person that you are.🙏❤ Ps. Daily reminder: I'm proud of y'all for getting through every day like champs and glad y'all r alive! Stay safe, stay fire and stay legendary ppl.🙏💪
@@slowedversion6393 It depends where you are but i'd suggest you to go to your local fire station and ask for the requirements needed to enlist into the fire accademy. Definitly recommending coming to the fire accademy already in high shape and good heath and trying the weekly firefighting trainings, to see if your mind and body is really prepared to do that as a career.
This man is so animated and passionate about his past life experiences, definitely a real solid dude just by his mannerisms and his character coming out from his words
This has to be the most incredible heart felt interview I have ever seen that I cried watching it. The rawness of Richard being so vulnerable and real was unexpected yet beautiful. John did an amazing job of listening to his friend speak from the heart and only spoke when necessary. Which is a gift and a talent to master the art of truly listening while you give the other person the floor to talk.
I use to hang out with Richard and his homeboys back then on Floral in East LA. There was a little corner store by the freeway we'd go buy beer I think they called him Joker I'm not to sure. Years later I run into him in Highland Park at Antigua, super chill and humble dude. Proud of u Rich u made it carnal.
It sounds like there might have been friction between Richard and his co-stars or the crew on Mayans, that he was mistreated in some way, and that's a huge shame because his performance as Coco was one of the best parts of the show.
47.35 I honestly can’t remember last time I cried but hearing Rich say I’m going to be there for you son all I have is enough for McDonald’s son but I’m gonna take you there made me cry my eyes out this man is an inspiration
Man I got choked up hearing the breaking in his voice. All this emotion pouring out of him…. You can hear him trying to control it as he’s trying to convey his thoughts. So heartbreaking. Much respect to him for sharing his story. And bro much respect to Jon for being a great listener and letting him speak before asking more questions. His interviewing and listening skills are so dope.
Watching this on Father’s Day, it hits different. Having a young one grow up next to you is the most badass feeling you could ever get. Like he said, just being there, no matter if it’s McDonalds, your son will feel the love you have for him just being there. I had similar story to Richard growing up, not having a father, father was in prison for 14 years. Now I am a police investigator having the best time with my son. Happy Father’s Day to everyone on here, be there, it is not difficult.
Damn he was definitely taking shots at the behind the scenes crew of Mayans and the network the last 12 minutes of the interview. Much respect for sticking up for himself and knowing his worth. Literally basically said fuck a paycheck, I’m about morals.
I love Richard Cabral so so much I cannot wait to show this interview to my husband. Thank you John for honoring Richard and for honoring our culture. Thank you Richard for everything that you bring to the world your light and your talent please never stop bringing your light and your talent and giving back to the community. ❤🤗 🇲🇽 PRIDE!!!
This story reminds me of a close friend of mine, Yogi from South Gate. He moved to Utah around 97, 98. He was rough on the outside and had a heart of gold. He came to Utah because he was running from his past. Super quiet but once I had earned his trust he opened up about a place that sounded like a whole different planet. Seeing his grandfather get his legs blown off when he was a young child with a shotgun and numerous friends and family being killed. I couldn't believe the pain he had seen through his eyes. He then told me a story of a time where he and homie were caught by some rival gang members and were stabbed and beaten. He died a couple of times, his heart stopping, in the hospital. He said that he had seen Jesus and that it was peaceful but Jesus asked him about all the bad he had done. He then said you can't blame me for an environment I had no choice in being in. His mother, father, grandparents were all in the same gang. It was generations of family. He was just trying to survive and had never known anything else. Yogi said that Jesus gave him compassion and he woke up in the hospital. After he came to Utah he had cooled out a bit but his perception was that where he had came from was definitely not where he was at and that he didn't have to worry about anything because Utah was different. On September 13th, 1999 he was shot once in the chest at gas station in an argument over someone looking at him wrong. He died right there after taking one last breath. He was 18. His words and his story's will be with me for the rest of my life. We can't always judge people for things they have done in situations that they really never had choice in. If you're born in it and every single family member is doing it then what choice do you really have as a young child, teen, or even young adult? I miss my friend. RIP Michael "Yogi" Palencia!
I have a friend Thumper in Washington state from South Gate. Tatted up etc... Looks are just that. Coolest dude ever. Super loving father. Growing old and safe. Some make it out.
Reading your story I’m thinking you’re talking about someone in their 30’s and then I read he was 18. 18! And lived through so much in such a short time.
Back here a year later. I’m so in awe of the way Rich talks. So much passion and understanding in his words. EVERYTIME he talks about his life experiences I cry. And whenever I’m feeling down I’ll come back here and replay ❤.
Man this guy gives me strength to stop this addiction that has been sucking my life out of me since I left prison at 19, I'm 33 and only when my daughter was born 4 years ago I realised there is more to life than trying to stay out of prison, it feels like my whole life since leaving prison all I was focused on was not going back which kind of leaves you in the same spot not taking any chances, then you add your personally demons and start self medicating to not deal with them, this gentleman gives me hope of throwing away these petty excuses that are holding me back, I didn't do much time but enough to fuck up a young man's brain, my name is Cesar and I'm a fellow Latino coming from Australia, I have a 5 month old now and a 4 year old to the most amazing wife I started dating in highschool, I have it all in front of me and amazing man helped me see this, time to kick this bad habit and start living life

I was born and raised in CDMX and moved to East LA when I was 17years old and got to see the real struggle of been Mexican but not from this country the community Chicano didn’t see us like part of it. But when I meet the guys from STN heaven and Defer I saw how the real ones are ! 🙏🏽🙏🏽 as a Graffiti artist and tattoo artist from CDMX they were so welcoming and showed me so much about the culture from east LA.
Never knew of Richard’s history of filmography before this but I could always tell on Mayans that he was a real one and that his performance was authentic. Without a doubt he was my favorite, after watching this he’s became another human that I do not personally know but have a great appreciation for. Man seen life and death, dealt with emotions, trials and tribulations, and still he stands a man willing to still find the light. Loved this podcast dearly and happy I took the time to genuinely watch every word and emotion that was shared. Wish nothing but the best for Richard🙏🏾
He has mad anxiety like myself. I can tell. It's the self realization and learning about everything beyond the scope of everything you ever known. I totally feel for this guy. I too am ex gang member who got out of that stuff. I live deep in the middle of nowhere in a ten bedroom home all to myself on about fifteen acres of land. I don't F anybody. I don't drink. I don't go out, hardly ever. I just stay to myself. We only got so much more time left here on this Earth. Not gon waste that time devoting it to a system that is completely deranged and F up. The gang life is not a good life. And prison life is not a good life. We have to grow up some time, yeah. I sm very glad that this amigo has grown up & has come to see everything for what all truly is. Thanks for this video, I enjoyed it very much so.
Man…I grew up in the City of Commerce in East LA so there’s so many relatable feelings. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a podcast that made me tear up multiple times. What a freaking great podcast!!
Best statement anyone has ever said. So simple but true “be there for your children DF! be there, love them, listen” not complicated at all!! Love the raw emotions and realness felt through cabral’s story
I've followed Richard for a few years now, I found his acting to be so genuine, which clearly comes from his life, his first hand experience. I grew up poor in an east coast city in the 80's/90's, I was poor, broken household, often homeless, barely surviving on welfare, food stamps and public housing while food kitchens kept us from starving. There were always gangs when I was a kid, always turf and disrespect causing issues, but when crack hit, it turned the poorest parts of our inner cities into war zones. Many of my friends ended up locked up in their teen, couple kids I grew up with decided to bang and got themselves killed. I made serious mistakes in my youth but managed to get incredibly lucky, somehow escaping every life-threatening situation that my idiotic decisions put me in. I was fortunate, so many people were racist AF back then, I was white, and I had some natural skills and a few teachers and one employer that refused to let me flush my life down the toilet, I managed to escape before that world put enough hooks into me where it wouldn't be possible. None of my close friends from my teens made it out, and I wouldn't have either if it weren't due to those factors. I listen to Richard talk about his childhood, about not getting the love at home so he got it on the street with his friends, and I relate to that so hard, I'm sure a lot of people do. I wasn't a gangbanger and I hated committing crime, but I loved my friends and needed to survive, so I went along with shit that should have got me locked up or killed, and I protected my friends not realizing that they wouldn't have protected me in similar circumstances. Real people are real, you can always tell when people are playing up or exaggerating their experiences.
@@peaceandlove544 I can't get behind the idea that an entity who's "plan" involved a child being forced to grow up in what I grew up in, with the years of violent physical, mental and sexual abuse, allowed a child to experience that out of "love". No loving God with any power over humanity would every force a child to endure what so many like myself have had to endure. I am not against others having faith, and I will defend your rights to faith and practicing religion with my last breath as our constitution deems it so. I just personally cannot carry on such a relationship.
Man, this dudes so blown out it’s crazy to see him because he’s dealt with serious trauma and this is probably the first time he’s talked about his life
Grew up in east LA and late 80’s and early 90’s it was bad. Shootings all over! Playing sports at the park most kids that went to public joined a set and most were killed. In retrospect, it’s crazy how numb we were to all this behavior.
He is not ate up or blown out trust me he's just a charismatic mexican. I'm not Mexican but trust me I understand what you're saying but that's maybe 49% that over powering 51% is his character I enjoyed him in SOA
This is so damn powerful, I hope that we all learned something from this man exposing his life and heart and perspective to those of us that didn't have to survive this. I hope that we can find a way to learn and apply these life lessons to our local communities.
You can see and feel the anger of his childhood in how he answers. Emotion upfront and mostly ends in anger. I hope he continues to get better. Loved this interview!
This is one of the realest interviews I've ever watched very informal as well. The part that got me the most is when he said " just be there its not that complicated ". Definitely was a pleasure to learn about Richards Cabrals early life history his performance in Mayans MC was phenomenal.
Amazing interview. Love how Jon never gets frustrated when he can’t even finish his questions half the time lol he just lets them tell their stories. He was the Same with Shia. Good shit fellas ✊🏽
Dark Times.... A lotta people including myself bottle that shit up. Creating 'Real Ones' could only be done by one. Definitely enlightening watching homie tell his story...Respect to both of you. And Jon if you see this... You killed it in 'We Own This City' 💯
I’ve been waiting for this to be released. This is the best interview I’ve ever seen. Jon has so much respect for Cabral and it’s noticed by him. Pure authenticity on both sides.
Even though this was a year ago, I came to this channel watching Richard and Primo Paulie’s interview. My respect 🫡 for both of them, and hearing Richard’s story is so empowering. This interview was not enough time!!! I can hear his stories over and over again !!!! ♥️♥️♥️
Dammit! 😭 I'm crying at the end of this interview. The tears are overwhelming inspiration and love and hope! What an incredible human, a true example of a Phoenix, and one that rose & rises but brings others with him. His story is so powerful & needs more attention. Give a kid on the street some hope & inspire them by sharing stories they can relate to. Big love, Richard! May the wind of your ancestors carry you to the highest of heights & bless your children & family! May your love with your partner be everlasting!
My older brothers lived crazy gang life in west denver and I'm glad they are still alive it seems like they lose one homie a month and my bros are trying to save young homie from the street life
Beautiful message bro… Also, really hope Richard uses his amazing talent of storytelling to help kids in their steps to the better! Both him and Jon are truelly great men and examples to young men today…

@@usernotfound904I don’t think so. He is telling his testimony with a passion.

It sounds like there might have been friction between Richard and his co-stars or the crew on Mayans, that he was mistreated in some way, and that's a huge shame because his performance as Coco was one of the best parts of the show.

I have been waiting for this to come out. This is by far one of the most powerful interviews I have heard. His story and pain touch my soul.

Richard has SO much energy and passion inside, it's good to see he got out of the bullshit and found a way to use his power for something good.
