    Something that it takes a while for a lot of foreigners to really notice and become fully aware of is the level of egalitarianism in Australia. We won't judge people for their status, job, income level, or appearance. If we're going to judge someone at all, we'll judge them by the way they treat other people. It doesn't matter how "important" or wealthy someone is, we will judge them by how they treat the wait staff, the cleaners, and homeless guy in the street.

  • @ellie-jo3025

    Something I noticed there and miss now I'm back in the UK, is how tidy the streets are. Compared to the UK there's no rubbish in Australian streets 🥲

      @@TheBAMFamalam Maz, Ben & Ellie-Jo, I'll give you a quick history lesson on why Australia is clean and even in the major cities.
      In 1969 an anti-litter movement started in Victoria that ended up becoming the nationwide 'Keep Australia Beautiful' Campaign. In the following decades all Australian States created their own anti-litter laws, legislation, educational programs and TV Ads.
      Now through the 1970's all school kids that were first exposed to this massive campaign knew about and were taught about not littering. That generation paid attention to those teachings, learnt why there is a necessity to keep the country clean and passed that on to their kids, who passed it on to their kids.
      Put it this way, the grandparents of today in Australia were taught to keep Australia clean, not litter and dispose of litter carefully.
      When a campaign is multi-generational and still going today, you are bound to have success.
      Australians didn't just get lucky, we had good teachers and great anti-litter advocates 50 years ago!
      (P.S: Nice video Maz & Ben. You're doing a fantastic job👍)

    You need to make a trip to Adelaide, 8 wine districts and around 200 cellar doors within two hours of Adelaide, more districts further out. Over 70 distilleries that have won numerous international awards. Great country pubs within a short drive. Then if you want to spend some time out and about, the Flinders Ranges, Fleurieu, Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas. The south east, down though the Coorong and along to Mt Gambier and the Umpherston Sinkhole, and on and on 😀

    respect for bringing up the late great WILDLIFE WARRIOR, Steve Irwin ♥
    ps. you mentioned Great Barrier Reef, but that takes a half hour boat ride to get to ... if you go to north-west WA you can WALK out to the amazing Ningaloo Reef. also up there at Monkey Mia they have a WILD pod of dolphins that comes in every morning for free fish (carefully managed by wildlife rangers - theyre only fed 1/3rd of their diet to ensure they keep naturally hunting for the rest). It's the most-studied pod of dolphins in the world, with lots of overseas scientists.

    I’ve watched a few of your videos and you pair are like a breath of fresh air. To move to the other side of the world is not an easy thing to do especially if you have family and you have embraced every part of it in such an amazing way. The one thing that stands out for me is (and I won’t swear on a stack of bibles) that I never hear you say the term “back home”…..that to me is the single most important aspect of settling/assimilating into a new country you want to call home. Of course you’ll never forget “back home”, it’s a part of who you and you will always carry a part of it with you simply by your accent.
    You always look so happy, your enthusiasm for your new home must undoubtedly be very infectious to others wanting to do what you have successfully done. You’re certainly reminding many Aussies of just how great our little corner of the world is. How are your girls going?
    So to you all take care and keep enjoying your new home, it’s the best.❤️

    Hey guys, awesome video! My family is originally from the province of Newfoundland, Canada, which was settled a lot by the English, so we grew up, and still do, using and understanding most of the English and Aussie terms/slang! Australia is the only country that I have ever felt homesick for, I watch your videos with joy and a full heart! I so appreciate #10 and the mention of gluten free accommodations, I have to be gluten free as I mentioned in a previous post - such a helpful tip for gluten free people! Thx. When you mentioned the dangerous animals, funnily enough, the 2 times I was in Australia it didn't even cross my mind at all, let alone worry about it, I was so just happy being there! You mentioned Steve Irwin):, so sad, and let's not forget Crocodile Dundee, Paul Hogan - what do the Aussies think of him, still? Here the American dream is to have your home,good income job but also go out often on vacation or to eat. Raise a family as well in most cases but it's the American dream....the Human Kind dream there from what you're describing !!!!!

    Your employer deposits 10% of your pre tax wage into your super fund. It's not a "top up" from your employer. [Edit: I have no evidence of this next statement] The employer gets some kind of compensation through the tax system for the extra admin burden.

    • @heritagehorsedrawncarriage1069
      @heritagehorsedrawncarriage1069 2 года назад +1

      Not really sure what you mean by the employer gets compensation for the admin burden! And from 1 July it's 10.5% of all wages. Prior to this it was only if you earned $450/month or more.

    • @cottawalla
      @cottawalla 2 года назад

      @@heritagehorsedrawncarriage1069 I can't find any references to a direct compensation so I'll withdraw that claim.

    The high minimum wage and "no tipping", means that restaurant food is very expensive. You can't get a cup of coffee for under $4, which is hard for a Canadian (being used to Tim Horton's) to swallow. Otherwise, a great place to live!!

    Talking about Superannuation, all of us Australians lost some of our Super from 2021-2022 financial year. I hope the economy will get better 2022-2023 financial year.
    In regards to education in Australia, students are trained to think outside the box and critical thinking is a must! Teachers, don't spoon feed students academically here. Students need to be creative and open/acceptable to others idea. That's my experienced when I went to University here.

    Australia inherited some great things from the UK, such as Parliamentary democracy and the rule of law. One good thing Australia didn't inherit from the UK was the UK class system. That is the legacy that the convicts that arrived from the UK and Ireland, brought to Australia. This underpins Australian egalitarianism.
