    I love the sound of this solo. I don't play anymore, don't even own a trombone, but I just memorized it so I can play it in my head over and over through the years! :)

    A great player doing an above average job. There is no 'great' bolero yet. The technical and musical training wheels built into the all too persistent 20thC trombone performance paradigm need to be thrown out in favor of the instruments performance evolution. Modern trombonists have the technique and talent, in terms of virtuosity, but have not yet given themselves the...musical authority that other instruments have licensed themselves to have, which are necessary to overcome 'standard practices' that give each instrument its...inherently unmusical, awkward or mechanical character.
    Until a new generation of Remington 'free' trombonists 'dare' musicianship, the trombone will lack musical grace and continue to lumber and lurch about in the orchestra. If ever an instrument had the mechanical means to disabuse the tyranny of the tongue, through extreme alternate positions and natural slurs, its the trombone. The volume and tone lost to the development and incorporation of notes on an instrument with 43 usable positions (rather than 7 varied positions) in flowing passages is inconsequential and necessary for the instrument to...overcome and overgo (in the ubermensch sense).
