    Have a 99 XL1200. Put a new throttle cable in as the throttle was not working. Now, upon further investigation, the cable pulley for the throttle/oil injection pump is sticking. Pull the throttle, it doesn't return. Is there a replacement or just take it off and clean up and lube good?

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  Год назад

      I would definitely check to make sure there is free play in the throttle cable, it should have about 5mm of free play when you apply throttle, before it opens the throttle valve. Also double check that routing is proper and the cable isn't bound or twisted. You can definitely lube them up! Hopefully that's all it is, I have seen that before, some WD40 or silicone spray would be good and just work the throttle. Make sure the cable mounts and pulleys aren't bent too.

    Just got done finishing an xl800, second time pulling everything a part due to a ruptured fuel line that was barely rubbing on the head. Make sure you route everything back like factory.
    Also, make sure to get the right kits, for I series carbs. The regular 44 SBN carbs are smaller diaphragms and body.
    Mine rubbed through while cruising about 45 mph. Was able to limp home at 3 mph, but was across a huge lake. Lesson learned the hard way. Fixed it and also put more hose protector around fuel line for added protection.

    • @wickedrepairs8527

      The pop off pressure is 75psi for all 3 carbs. You can very slowly and carefully drill the plugs out, don't go fast or hold much pressure so the drill bit doesn't hit the screw heads. The front carb low speed screw should be at 1 1/2 turns out, the middle at 1 3/8 turns out and rear at 1 1/2 turns out. The high speed screws should be at 1 3/8 turns out for all 3.

The low speed screws are 1 1/2 turns out on front carb, 1 3/8 out center and 1 1/2 out for the rear. All high speed are 1 3/8 turns out. To bleed the oil is simple, just loosen the screw in front of the idle knob until there is no air and only oil coming out then tighten it back down. Thanks for watching and I'm happy to help!

    Late comment, but hopefully you still check these. I just rebuilt my 2000 1200xl carbs and it has a runaway idle now. Bought the waverunner used not running. The grey hose with the red line on the hose, what is it for? Because on mine the front carb has an exposed nipple that the grey hose is bypassing, and where the grey hose would have connected to it someone added a connector to the hose to skip the first carb. The grey hose is connected to the last carb though

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  2 года назад

      It may possibly be a vacuum hose. I wouldn't bypass any of the hoses and they shouldn't be really. You have vacuum, fuel and return lines. That should be it and they should all be utilized properly. The only other lines would be to the Reed valves for oil injection.

    Hi, I thought your video was great. I have a question. I have a 2002 Yamaha xlt1200 and I did rebuild the carbs. I ran on land and got a good idle. I had to wait 2 days before I could bay test and I removed the seats and the bilge was filled with gas… a couple of gallons. It was pouring out of the carbs. What would cause that ? @wickedrepairs8527  2 года назад

      Thank you, I appreciate that!
      Simple things first, make sure all the fuel lines are on and are secured properly. If they are all good,
      I would run it on the hose, make sure the seat is off for venting and get all the leaked fuel out of the hull before starting it for safety.
      Use lights and mirrors if needed to inspect around the carbs and lines for any leaks under pressure.
      It's possible that the needle valves are stuck or getting hung up making them leak over. The fuel would most likely come out of the hole in the cover of the diaphragm.

      The carbs were filled with fuel, each barrel was full and dripping into the bilge. I couldn’t see with the mirror so I quickly remove the exhaust so I can get to the carburetors and take a look and that’s what I saw after I remove the flame arrestor that each barrel of each carb was filled with fuel and dripping out. When I removed all three carburetors each three openings on the manifold were filled with fuel as well. I’m not sure how this fuel system works as far as getting fuel to the carburetors does the fuel tank get pressurized ? I’m not sure how the return fuel line works either but obviously this was dangerous and I don’t want to put the carburetors back until I understand why so much gas poured out of them and into the bilge.

      @@darrinscali5306 wow! You're welcome, I'm happy to help out any way I can. The fuel pumps through the vacuum hoses on the fuel pump bodies of the carburetors. The return line is to simply return any fuel that isn't consumed. I would remove the fuel lines and see if they are flowing constantly or if they stop. However, the needle valve and diaphragm should stop the flow of fuel until its pressurized and the needle valve pops open.

    I rebuilt my carbs recently and found that My ski does not idle. I have checked that the idle screw is properly set. It will start then immediately die. When I can get it to idle sometimes it idles very high 3000-5000 on trailer. Tends to run a little better on choke but once you push the choke all the way in it idles high. Could it be a vacuum leak? I also replaced all of my lines with see through tubing and noticed that my return line has no fuel running through it. But I can see the fuel being pumped to the carbs. Does anyone have any suggestions or resolutions?

      Could be the low speed screws need to be adjusted. Could also be an air leak. If it runs a little better on choke it's possible that it needs a bit more fuel, maybe something is partially clogged/dirty still.

      @@wickedrepairs8527thanks for the reply, I checked the hoses and are tight. I am going to try replacing the manifold gasket with an OEM one instead of SBTs aftermarket that i put on to see if that does the trick if not then i will have to take the carbs off again and look at them :(

      @@wickedrepairs8527 so i tore the carbs apart again and saw no blockage and even cleaned them again. when i took off the carbs i noticed that i shot the bolts through the paper gasket. I put it all back together with a new OEM gasket. it will idle well at about 3/4 choke out. once i push the choke in it dies. tried adjusting the idle screw with no success. it feels like i am not getting enough fuel. What i neglected to do was clean out the low and high speed screws on top and bottom. could this be the issue? still no fuel through the return hose. also when doing my pop off pressure tesr of the the carbs was leaking air so i had to put some yamabond on it to hold pressure hope this is ok. yes i used genuine mikuni parts.

      Yes, not pulling the low and high speed screws and cleaning through them can do this. The issue is more than likely that there is some debris in the low speed circuit still. The low speed screw is the same circuit for your idle/pilot circuit that runs idle to 3,000 rpm.

    What’s the big gasket called I’m trying to order that part for my Jetske

      Not sure what big gasket you are referring to. The diaphragm maybe? I get kits through SBT, complete rebuild kits for about $50 ea.

    Do you have to sync the carbs?

    • @wickedrepairs8527
      @wickedrepairs8527  3 года назад

      The way you would sync the carburetors is by checking pop off pressure on the needle valve. Depending on the machine and spring color/gram. Say pop off pressure is 15 psi, as long as all 3 needle valves open at 15 psi you will be good. If 1 is 15 psi and 2 is 11 psi and 3 is 17 psi then it will not take throttle smooth. It would be like running on 1 cylinder, then 2, then 3 when all open. They should be set all the same. That is your synch. Then if needed, you can fine tune the low and high speed screws while running the machine.

      Idk, the only thing that's touchy about that is not having the machine myself to install and test, see if adjustments need to be made, that type of stuff. If I ever do that, I can't guarantee anything. Although I'm sure they will be ok with possibly needing idle and/or slight low speed or high speed screw adjustments.

      @@anthonycamacho6475 I'm from Massachusetts. Most dealers are 100 to 125 an hr. On the machine typically runs $500 to $900 depending on model and # of cylinders/carbs including parts. Off the machine I'd say roughly $350- $550 for 2 or 3 cylinder with parts.
