lowkey i like shoe gaze. It does kinda bum me out that every band needs to have a shoe gaze song though. Never Before Seen, Never again found by Arms Length is an absolute banger of an album, but they have a song on there called "Family and Friends" and don't get me wrong I love that fuckin song, but it just feels the most off when I listen to that album in full. I guess I never chalked it up to Title Fight though. To me it was Turnovers fault but I still love them too. Edit: i made this before i got to the end. Thank you for mentioning Oso Oso that dude is insanely talented and I'm genuinely thankful to the universe for putting him on the spotify weekly recommended 5 years ago.
Turnover is def responsible for it in some aspect though, but title fight did it first and also affected the hardcore scene so I have it moreso to title
So like Explosions in the Sky isn't considred "Midwest" emo since they're from Texas, but I can't ignore the similiarites when I watch Friday Night Lights

i just really think throwing weezer in anything is funny, and if i really wanted to trigger gatekeepers i will defend pinkerton as a midwest emo album, cause its not, but its close enough to make a lot of good points to make it seem like a midwest emo album
What gatekeepers would object to the inclusion of Pinkerton under the general umbrella (not midwest) of emo though? I mean the Blue Album is just plain old Alt rock but Pinkerton is thematically about as emo as you can get. Not to mention relentlessly cited as a major influence by many more conventional emo bands. That was literally how I had the album pitched to me originally- "Weezer makes an emo album", which compelled me to check it out and Ive never regretted that decision.
Fr I’ve mentioned some more cool bands in some other comment but here’s some more, Worst party ever Turnover You blew it! By the end of summer Citizen Joyce manor

They are good, but American football had the most early major influence and solidified most of the techniques and style we use today in the genre , but modest and Casanova are 100% important
@@tinflint Maybe that’s true for technique idk I’m not super knowledgeable on that but “Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About” MM’s first album album was first released in 1996 and I guarantee it had influence on Modern Baseballs first album which released later on, it also has better sound imo.
They’re like, idk I’d say like folk pop punk? It’s not like folk punk like wingnut dishwashers union but like it’s not emo either? Idk they’re good tho
Shoegaze is like almost droning sound, it’s like droning because of arguably way to much reverb and delay rather than sustained notes, metal is not a genre I know well (I love metal it’s just not my main shit) so I can’t answer that
@@tinflint thank you very much. So it's more of the riffs than just the music. Kind of melancholy. Deftones shoegaze? If someone could list some bands, I'd greatly appreciate it 👍

When Minus the Bear disbanded, I quit the genre and went back to metal
I would die to see a sports. or Midwest pen pals show, and also camp edwards is so good too
I used to listen to emo a lot back when I was 16... and now I'm gay. Guys, pleasre DO NoT listen to emo.
IS THIS TRUE?!??!🔥🔥🔥
0:56 2nd most important (call em stans theyll tell you the most important)
The Forecast doesn't get a mention?
lowkey i like shoe gaze.
And yes here on this channel we fuck with oso oso guy is crazy talented
Cap n jazz are the only one that transcend both genres of emo
this is me realizing my dad has always been into midwestern emo so now so am i
MIDWEST EMO DAD?!?
0:48 YOOOOOO I WAS BORN THERE live in san diego now tho. btu im going back for college
So like Explosions in the Sky isn't considred "Midwest" emo since they're from Texas, but I can't ignore the similiarites when I watch Friday Night Lights
This guy writes and replies and has the sense of humour of a tumblr gothic girl
You bet your ass I do
I actually really like witty tumblr user dialogue

Nice, new band to check out. Haven't heard of Glocca Morra yet.
Holy fuck man, amazing band go listen to just married by them amazing album and report back and tell me what you think lmfao
@@tinflint he didn't report back
Please dont stop making vids. New subscriber
I do not plan on stopping, I have nothing better to do with my free time, so expect more 🫡
@@tinflint lol a word of advice: try coding
I do code actually, I’ve been coding a game with some buds in my free time and even built a couple of websites and chrome extensions
@@tinflint your git hub? Any social media?
I still remember listening to American Football with my ex gf (the one I should have married instead of my ex wife) back in the day. me and my ex from 2003-2010 are still friends 21 years later! we were just hanging out on her porch last night! and we were listening to American Football lol
Marry her now dude
Adding Weezer to trigger the gatekeepers is the best thing ever lmao
i just really think throwing weezer in anything is funny, and if i really wanted to trigger gatekeepers i will defend pinkerton as a midwest emo album, cause its not, but its close enough to make a lot of good points to make it seem like a midwest emo album
@@tinflint lmaooo yes
What gatekeepers would object to the inclusion of Pinkerton under the general umbrella (not midwest) of emo though? I mean the Blue Album is just plain old Alt rock but Pinkerton is thematically about as emo as you can get. Not to mention relentlessly cited as a major influence by many more conventional emo bands.
That was literally how I had the album pitched to me originally- "Weezer makes an emo album", which compelled me to check it out and Ive never regretted that decision.
Algernon cadwallader was honestly so good and is just as good as capn jazz and american football imo, shit fucking banged
Algernon cadwallader fucks love those guys
Ay sick video. Turned me onto a couple bands
Fr I’ve mentioned some more cool bands in some other comment but here’s some more,
Worst party ever
Turnover
You blew it!
By the end of summer
Citizen
Joyce manor
IMO Midwest Emo became Midwest Pop Punk (bands like real friends, Knuckle Puck, Heart attack man) which is just midwest emo but for kids who dont realize they're sad yet.
i have no idea if they’re midwest emo but the front bottoms are pretty epic
Yeah they’re almost there, more in like folk emo stuff but they make some groovy shit
fr complaning about title fight being so influential while simping for title fight for being so influential while crying to all your friends who have no idea what youre talking about because you miss title fight(none of my friends listen to emo help)
force them to listen to it, I made my band listen to it as an excuse to let me write cool emo guitar riffs
what is the title fight song?
i wonder why you haven't thrown Delta Sleep in this
Delta sleep is closer to math rock I think
I was waiting for Title Fight 😊 glad you put their best song in here! Also early modest mouse/ugly Casanova is actually the OG
Is TFB considered Midwest emo or are they better classified as other labels like folk punk and stuff.
They’re like, idk I’d say like folk pop punk? It’s not like folk punk like wingnut dishwashers union but like it’s not emo either? Idk they’re good tho
Man all these videos on emo by younger folk make me feel so old
Bro I’m sorry :(
@@tinflint Don't be. Time marches on for us all. Just nostalgic for the twinkle daddies days.
Real shit. As long as i did the genre justice I will be happy
Does tiger jaw fit anywhere here?
Why nobody talks about Christie Front Drive? They started way before AF and their sound was even more «emo»
nice vid yt algorithm
I’m glad to be on the receiving end of this comment thanks youtube algorithm
Is shoegaze just droning sounds and rhythms? Doom and Black metal are my top tiers and Title Fight hits my doomy itch. Is Blood Pact shoegaze?
Shoegaze is like almost droning sound, it’s like droning because of arguably way to much reverb and delay rather than sustained notes, metal is not a genre I know well (I love metal it’s just not my main shit) so I can’t answer that
@@tinflint thank you very much. So it's more of the riffs than just the music. Kind of melancholy. Deftones shoegaze? If someone could list some bands, I'd greatly appreciate it 👍
@@colddeadwitch yeah deftones are bascially shoegaze, its mostly from like 80's dreampop, shoegaze is just a less dreamy version of it, i actually have a whole video on shoegaze, ruclips.net/video/n2UTsq3TBbs/видео.html
The guy from Sports is in a new band called Snack'd Out
Sunny Day Real Estate......a very good midwest emo band.....from Seattle, WA. lolll
I hear movies like Juno, it becomes me sad, and so... I am crying, again (((
THE OH MESSY LIFE RIFF LETS GOOOOO 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
Tiny moving parts
Great band, great bridge from Midwest emo to math rock, a good blend of emo and math rock
bg song 1:15?
Movies like Juno by Midwest pen pals
Eww I'm fkn old now lol. I never heard the term "midwest emo" before and I listened to, played shows with and saw a lot of the old bands from out that way back in the day.
Wait... but California and Florida are not on the map you showed me just seconds ago. System error 🤖 ⁉⁉⁉
Bro... the SMOKING POPES ?????
american football? more like ameri can't football haha
American football, more like I ameri can’t fucking do this anymore
The recs I would give someone now are Modern baseball (RIP), Mom Jeans, Pool Kids, Tiny Moving Parts, Anxious, and Marietta (RIP). Also, the Get- up kids should be in the founders conversation too.
Yeah I personally am not that into the get up kids, but I really should have mentioned them cause they were important for the revival, and fr don’t know how I didn’t mention Marietta, they’re like my favorite
@@tinflint Marietta is a must imo
On god, have everything they put out on vinyl except cuts (still on the search for it)
Do you mean Capn Jazz are an older band or the guys are older? I’m sure it’s the former
Cap’n jazz was an older band, by a few years, lead singer from American football was the drummer for them
CSTVT is pronounced Castevet
