Don't worry I was spy he same when I bought it, it can be difficult at first but you get used to it, I have a few tips for you:
If you have a mouse, near new layer there is a selection names line work which can help
One you have an outline, the magic wand can help select the exact area you want,
The Sel Pen does the same for small corrections, and the sel eraser erases the sel pen effect
Layers can also help, doing everything on one layer is tough,
Zoom in to get smaller areas,
And most importantly
Experiment, have fun and practice! I hope I helped :3
