- Make a Leather Viking Age Birka Pouch or Tarsoly using this pattern from Dark Horse Workshop, and bronze fittings from Raymonds Quiet Press if you want to make it extra fancy. The remnants of this pouch were discovered at the Birka gravesite in Sweden and dates to 900 AD. This is a great historical pouch to add to your Viking Age look.

I love saddle stitching…never thought I would say that! But it’s true. Kind of like mortar for bricks. Makes what you’ve made strong and more permanent. Plus it looks great.
Ohh my Gods ,how many times i waited for a tarsoly pouch tutorial...And here it is ,i like so much...Greetings from Hungary.
Glad you like it. :)
Heh, the stitching “ties’ everything together nicely…” nice
Great video, as usual! Love all the hardware on this one as well. I've started adding antler pieces to the dice bag pattern I got from you. Love that pattern as well! Thanks for the awesome work Magnus!
Beautiful work. Thanks for the video
Looks beautiful!
Amazing as always, Magnus
Was about to make a bag like this and then you come out with this pattern. Loved your other stuff. Cheers from Nordmark!
So YOU were the one buying out all the birka style metal bits i had saved on my etsy favorites list🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes I am!
Awesome work mate.
Good job, thanks for your new video, good bless you from the Poland 🇵🇱✌️💪🔥
Have to say this really floats my boat! I love your history inspired stuff but this is 😘 chefs kiss c 👩🍳
Wonderful result
that looks great
Do you have any historical pattern suggestions? Happy to add to that area more.
Viking Turn shoes?!
I think the hungarian shepherd knife sheath it's an amazing thing. Not too difficult but do you need a bit more leather experience cuz it's a tricky stuff;)...
vking helmet?
@@firesmurf7984 do you have a link to a picture?

The idea with stitching instead of rivets is brilliant! Gonna try that on a pouch I'm planning with a "rough and rugged" look. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
I truly hope you know how helpful your videos are for someone still getting familiar with the ins and outs of leatherwork; the small comments that you make while explaining a certain step in the process goes such a long way. Thank you for awesome content and awesome pieces!!
I appreciate that!
Wow. Now that's cool. Love it. 💛💙💪😎
Splendide !!
Cute pouch
Great video, really really nice bag! The part with coloring the brass pieces and sanding the highlights free, was eye opening to me.
Glad it was helpful!
very nice
That looks great. I am torn about the stitching vs rivets.

Oh, yes!
Tarsoly (HU)
Gorgeous work. I am just getting into leather work beyond just making knife sheaths (I am also a blacksmith and weaponsmith), and I have gravitated to your channel because you are making stuff right up my alley (except I lean toward metal armor). BUt most importantly, your tutorials are fantastic and really help make this beautiful work look doable by someone with limited experience (obviously it will take a bit to get to your level of refinement though).
Kudos.
Glad you're enjoying the content are you trying to make things relatable and love putting my mistakes into my videos as well since nobody's perfect. :)
That looks great. I know the perfect model for your stuff she is a blacksmith/artist/poet she also does viking/norse work - she is even making a long boat. If I was closure to her or didn't have to work for a living it would be a awesome thing to be part of.
Her channel is 'The Path Of Fire she even looks like a "maiden of the spear'.

Sensacional, show 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👊🇧🇷
Yes hand stich, how to? Would be nice to watch 👍
i like the rivets myself but i like metal corners too . stitching has its place . im working on a wood book cover with stitching for the binding but its not firm enough and i dont want hinges , how about leather strapping for hinges , do you think that would work ?
Bought the pattern. A little unsure where ti start sowing on the edging. Any tips? Is it where the cut line is on the pattern ?
Did you put a lining on it so people dont get scratched
Great idea but no I did not.
Very cool, I make pouches like that on my Etsy to. ( not trying to self advertise)
People can self advertise all they want. I sell patterns. Haha. ;)
Hey dude, a while back I tore into you on a video about making a Viking pouch and how it wasn't "authentic" and just using the "Viking" soubriquet to sell it... This time I must congratulate you on an amazing and pretty much authentic Birka pouch! The pretty much bit refers to punching the sewing holes rather than using an awl... But with the trim there it's not so obvious 😉 Great work and thanks for this video... 👍 🤟
It's all good. Even this has gotten some flack. But I'm just doing my thing and hoping to improve. :)
Can't quite hear on the video - where is the hardware from?
Link in the description. Raymond's Quiet Press
A lot of your vids with vertical format aren't just your vids, but the whole RUclips links.
Not totally sure what this means
@@DarkHorseWorkshop
Look at older videos. You can see many if them with a vertical format. They are obviously narrow.
Pick one, then scroll down and you will see other RUclips content
I'm sorry you said that the hardware was from Raymond who? I am looking for similar can you please advise.
Raymond's Quiet Press
The original is not from Birka though, you might want to change that
Lots of hardware
Only if you want to put the hardware on it.
Your websaite is not working prorliy
How so? That's the first I've heard of that.
I'm too cheap to buy a skive machine so I use my belt sander
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat
Funny how this "viking" pouch is named Tarsoly which is a Magyar/Hun word. Things that SHOULD make you go hmmmm....
It was widely used in the trading town of Birka and has been found there as several archeological findings. Although it’s widely used in the Norse settlements they came from trading with the Magyar.
Trading and raiding is a thing
Хлам! Имея оборудование и не успел делать элементарные вещи - глупо! Да ещё и демонстрировать то, как убого делаешь эту самоделку.
