  • Make a Leather Viking Age Birka Pouch or Tarsoly using this pattern from Dark Horse Workshop, and bronze fittings from Raymonds Quiet Press if you want to make it extra fancy. The remnants of this pouch were discovered at the Birka gravesite in Sweden and dates to 900 AD. This is a great historical pouch to add to your Viking Age look.

    I love saddle stitching…never thought I would say that! But it’s true. Kind of like mortar for bricks. Makes what you’ve made strong and more permanent. Plus it looks great.

    The idea with stitching instead of rivets is brilliant! Gonna try that on a pouch I'm planning with a "rough and rugged" look. Thanks.

    Gorgeous work. I am just getting into leather work beyond just making knife sheaths (I am also a blacksmith and weaponsmith), and I have gravitated to your channel because you are making stuff right up my alley (except I lean toward metal armor). BUt most importantly, your tutorials are fantastic and really help make this beautiful work look doable by someone with limited experience (obviously it will take a bit to get to your level of refinement though).
    Kudos.

    That looks great. I know the perfect model for your stuff she is a blacksmith/artist/poet she also does viking/norse work - she is even making a long boat. If I was closure to her or didn't have to work for a living it would be a awesome thing to be part of.
    Her channel is 'The Path Of Fire she even looks like a "maiden of the spear'.

    Hey dude, a while back I tore into you on a video about making a Viking pouch and how it wasn't "authentic" and just using the "Viking" soubriquet to sell it... This time I must congratulate you on an amazing and pretty much authentic Birka pouch! The pretty much bit refers to punching the sewing holes rather than using an awl... But with the trim there it's not so obvious 😉 Great work and thanks for this video... 👍 🤟

    Por favor, qual tipo de couro você indicaria para entalhe?
    Qual o melhor método para endurecer meus trabalhos em couro?

    • @DarkHorseWorkshop
      @DarkHorseWorkshop  10 месяцев назад

      Couro Curtido Vegetal para esculpir e endurecer. Água quente funcionará. Eu endureço com cera, mas isso não é algo que eu faria para fantasias. Procure "Cuir bouilli" para endurecer.

      It was widely used in the trading town of Birka and has been found there as several archeological findings. Although it’s widely used in the Norse settlements they came from trading with the Magyar.
