Does car have to be powered on at first ? If so what’s the purpose of utility mode isn’t like driving the vehicle 🚗 since it’s already on? Or does staying parked for a long period of time eventually shut off vehicle if utility mode isn’t activated ?
If you want to run all the HV stuff like climate, or if you want to run accessories for a long time, the car must be on, in the “ready” state, which you need the wireless key to get into. Utility mode, entered from the “ready” power mode, prevents you from shifting out of park, and prevents the car from shutting itself off after 90 minutes as it otherwise would. Thank you for watching!
Ok, I just tested this! Yes, the car has to be ON, in ready mode and on parking gear. When the utility mode is enabled, it activates the parking break and prevents the car from being shifted into a driving or reverse gear. That is neat 😎
To get to the screen I believe that you have to turn the car on first. Is that so? An if so, then when you go to utility mode does it just turn the other functions off? Thanks for an answer, Mary
It would be more convenient if you could turn on utility, leave the car and lock the doors from the outside. This is good for keeping the car cool on very hot days while you go in and shop. Or can be used to heat the car on very cold days. Or can be used to keep your dog comfy and cool while you run into the store.
@@doolanbrian On the older Kona Electric, you could lock the car with the physical key to make utility mode like dog mode - I am not sure if the new Kona or Ioniq have a physical key? Some people say you can set the climate control with the app on newer cars, while the car is locked.
@@doolanbrian That's good at least meaning it should be possible. The advice is to make sure you take the whole key with you and not leave it in the car!
@@HansKlossJ23 yes, I think you are correct, I had a customer who wanted to leave items charging in the vehicle while it was unattended, but she also was unable to lock the vehicle. So yes, my understanding is what you have described. 🙂
@@doolanbrian I am from Ballymoney Co Antrim but living on Vancouver Island , I have a AWD Long Range Ultimate on order its going to be a 2023 should see it in Sept with luck, I am really happy they have done the second camera for lack of the rear wiper as here in Canada we can't turn the back up camera to be on all the time .
But, what how do I leave the Utility Mode ON, leave the car, and lock the car, so nobody could steal the car and valuables, while I walk away and have a meal while I do a DCFC? I need the USB and Power Sockets running, as my wife is lactating, and I have a small mini freezer running, and I need the USB running (along with OBD2) so I could have my phone send me notification when it reaches certain %. I'm from Malaysia, we don't have access to BlueLink (that's why I need the OBD2 + EVNotify running on an Android Box to send me notification), and our most of the DC chargers are 30/40/50/60/80/90 kW, and there are only less than a handful of 100+kW DC chargers around the whole country. The way I'm doing right now is, turn on utility mode, open the window, charge the vehicle, then lock the door through the window, close the window, go enjoy my meal. When I come back, I need to use the manual key to open the door (not the keyless or fob buttons), to enter the vehicle. I'm not sure how safe it is, and also if anyone could steal my care and drive it away turning it from Utility to Drive mode without the keys?
I can see your problem but I don’t believe that you are meant to leave the car during utility mode so I think the way you are doing it is clever and it’s probably your only option, sorry I couldn’t help better! Thank you for watching
Good explanation but it’s basically useless because you can’t lock the door while this is on. Can’t leave the dogs inside. Hyundai, we need a Dog mode!!!
Just curious, why are you worried about the dogs, I know that sounds like I’m being smart but I actually just want to understand better that’s all 🙂🙂 Are you worried about them standing on top of buttons?
@@doolanbrian So people can’t just open the door to steal my dog? Also there needs to be something on the screen shows that interior temperature is controlled so people won’t just break the glasses in hot summer days. Lots of reasons.
So you use the start stop button without applying the brake pedal which means it turns everything on but it doesn’t put the car into a ready mode for driving.. It’s like turning the ignition on on a regular car where the dash lights up but without actually turning it to the next point where it starts trying to start the ignition🙂

A lot of people mention this, there must be a logical reason why it doesn’t work that way, but unfortunately I am unsure of why
@@doolanbrian Tesla does have pet mode. So from a regulatory and technical perspective, it should be possible.

Lock it manually
In the Kona, it's in the menu accessible from the steering wheel, not the EV menu.
Can you show how to lock the car with ultitilty mode on
I stand to be corrected on this, so apologies if I am incorrect, but I don’t think it’s possible to lock the vehicle while it’s in the utility mode

It’s for valet parking so it sets up basically security so people can’t access your information if they are valet parking your car!
