Probably one of my favorite videos of yours. This just goes to show that you don’t need to be 30’ up in a tree, have a $600 hang on stand, wear trendy camo, carry a bunch of clap trap like ozone units into the woods, etc. to be able to kill deer. I am just as guilty of buying into the social media hype from lots of people about buying the latest and greatest, but you still stick to the basic principles of hunting just like I was taught as a kid. It still works!
Yeah it’s the same with us !! We don’t eat steak everyday, the deer do the same one day they’re on acorns the next they’re on alfalfa then corn then beans. Don’t get hung up on one hot grove of trees !! I hunt a reservation in northeast Nebraska and had and Indian teach me many years ago that when you jump em sit down they’ll be back. Almost 100 % of the time they’re back within 15 minutes. And I have taken several good deer doing that. When I say good it’s got to be minimum 150 class ! I have taken 19 over 150 and my largest to date is a 180 9/8. It works guys!!!
Good stuff, Catman. That bedding area technique has also worked for me while the foilage is still on. Our early muzzleloader season is in this week for does. I was just about to drop the hammer on a big old doe like that last night and a horny fork horn ran her out into the no fire zone. Hope to get one more crack at her Saturday.
I think the October lull doesn’t have as much to do with lack of deer movement as it does increasingly nocturnal deer movement. In the north you know when they’re up, you see them in the fields. They literally do not move at all during the day in October, especially on pressured public land.
There could be two reasons they’re not in the fields...hunting pressure, and acorns. Guarantee they’re moving during the day and eating, maybe not far from where they bed, but they do have to feed during the day too.
I had a old buddy who used to walk around in muzzleloader season. Late muzzleloader with the flintlock and jump deer. He would then set down right where he jumped them. And around an hour or so later they would circle back to the area. Ppfff kaabooom!
@@outdoorlife5694 The Man I spoke about also has passed. He was a good man. A man who Loved the Lord. @@CatmanOutdoors ah. You had some really good strategically placed deadfall. Wasn’t sure if you did it or just naturally fell that way. Looks like great front cover either way
I have watched your videos since the beginning and id have to say you not only have become a good hunter but a very good woodsman and i advise most kids to watch you and how informative you are.. Good job young man..
The "October lull" mostly refers to the change in buck activity and feeding patterns. They generally are bachelored up in the summer and very easily seen feeding in fields in daylight, but change dramatically when the days get shorter, they lose their velvet, and hunters start hitting the woods. The mature bucks are the most noticeably different by going nocturnal mostly to feed and travel. Those mature bucks are a totally different animal in terms of behavior, and can't be lumped into the usual "deer huntin". Does and young bucks are a dime a dozen. But that's all just my experience from over 40 years of hunting middle and west Tennessee public and private land. Love your videos catman. Good luck and keep it up.
Hey man I am from tn to anyway we could figure something out I come your way and do a hunt I don’t care really if I get to kill just like to hit the woods and learn a thing or 3
Great video. My question is are there no mosquitoes where you hunt early season? The mosquitoes in Louisiana about carry me away when walking around scouting.
Unfortunately with all the new rules and guidelines with RUclips his video it would be flagged as inappropriate content and be taken down. Guess RUclips doesn't want to show people where and how their food comes to them. I agree that they shouldn't be doing that to the creators on RUclips but of course we are being led by a bunch of bleeding heart blowhard's who are offended by the slightest bit of blood and guts. Come on people get with the program and let's just live life like we use to... If not I suggest you go and grow a set and leave us people alone who want to see this and learn from it.
Fellow hunters, I need some advice. I have not deer hunted in over 15 years. I am now retired, and I got me a new bow. Needless to say I am a little rusty, although at 30 yards my grouping in a little bigger than a coke can. I can not hunt from a tree stand any longer due to health issues. My wife bought me a nice pop up blind. I have 2 questions please. 1st.... do pop up blinds work? 2nd I need advice on broadheads. I shot wasp 125 grain many years ago. I was suggested thunderheads. Any positive feed back would be helpful. Thanks Guys and Gals. Please help.
The blind will work best if you brush it in and let it sit a few days before you hunt. Some deer are wary of a new blind that was just put up. Thunderheads are great broadheads for the money, I used to shoot them.
@@CatmanOutdoors thank you Sir!! I appreciate it!! I moved down to Tennessee from Southern West Virginia 30 years ago. I want to hunt back home. No rifle nor muzzle loader season in over 40 years. Big bucks back home!!!!
Schwacker doin what schwacker does best! I got the levi Morgans for this year and they work even better than the standards. Blades bend less when they hit bone on the way out and dirt as well
Great video Catman been a while since I've watched some of your stuff I've been very busy I'm in Greeneville Tennessee right now because of work I can't wait to get back to South Carolina so I can do some deer hunting myself
Just killed my first out of state buck in PA with it being my third October buck out of only 5 bucks no such thing as the October lull i may be in college and young but definitely not a lull

Me and my father used to do this everytime it snowed and last year he killed a giant 11 pointer doing it, unfortunately he’s not longer with me :(
But hopefully I will continue the tradition with my brother my dad had been doing it with me as long as I could remember

Jumped a buck early one morning. Set up about 80 yards away. He came back 2 hours later and gave me a 40 yard shot. He was OLD!
