Could you tell the people I put you on this one? That is my former workplace at the beginning of the video. Interestingly, they shot a few scenes of the American series Homeland, but the storyline was based somewhere in the Middle East. Every major event from all the strikes to the Kaapse Klopse that happen in Cape Town always begins in the same historical location which is called District 6. That is where the video started. Right in front of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The apartheid government changed the name to Zonnebloem after they forcefully removed all the black and coloured people who used to live in District 6 back in the 50s and 60s. They demolished every building except the mosques and churches that were in the area. Then they build Cape Technikon for white people. People of other races were later allowed to be enrolled in the varsity. In 2004 the name changed to Cape Peninsula University of Technology after they merged with Peninsula Technikon.

The guys in front of the group is the front walkers in English we would say voor looper they should be dancers. every town the the cape flats has some groups before they would have ribbons hanging across the street to inform you the colours for your group of your street,. in the group you have dancers, musicians, and some just walk with. In the competitions you need to have singers also. For second new year we would take over Cape Town the route is from District 6 to Bo Kaap

I'm not gonna lie... this video does not do the klopse any justice... the whole cape colored community comes out to celebrate this day. The energy in the streets from 12 mid day to 2 in the morning is ridiculous.
The route follows the major / historic roads right around the city bowl and ends at a stadium where the competition kicks off.
No the stadium events now take place at Athlone stadium over several following weekends 💙🇿🇦

I don't about tambourines but I know most of South African churches uses them mostly apostles churches, and those with brass bands and they mostly used by women
Tambourines aka (jingles) come a long way you can dance differently with the tambourines but you can make own style with it
