I love that I found your channel. My mom’s name was Tani and would make local favorites for us all the time since we moved away from HI. Makes me miss her even more but find comfort in your videos.
My sister went to Hawai’i with my mom for a wedding. They ate there and they made the rest of us so jealous. I’ll give this a go even though I don’t know what the actual taste is like from the original. 😅
Hi, I want to thank you so much for sharing this and making this video! I used this recipe, and ended up with delicious chantilly coco puffs ^_^. I appreciate this!
Omg thank u!!! I was a diehard fan of Liliha bakeries Coco puffs but Sadly their recipe changed! 😢either they’re using low quality ingredients now 🤷🏻♀️Or maybe their mass producing it and it’s not in small batches like it was in the old days. I went there a couple months ago and spent almost $50 only to be so disappointed. Im Very appreciative that you posted this video I’m going to make it at home.
That's because a Korean guy bought the bakery and is changing things NOT for the better, he even screwed up the chantilly cake by using some gross filling in the middle, he's going to take this icon bakery down sadly
Cooling the dough can probably take anywhere from 20-30 minutes. Lightly touch it with the back of your knuckle to check if it's to room temperature. As for the m as c nuts, I suggest almonds 🙂 hope that helped.
I made these yesterday. I got about 35 out of this recipe. I had two. My mom had two. My sister had two. My brother in law had three. Pretty sure my son ate the rest...they were wiped out when I got up this morning! 😋😂
This looks great, but I have a question, is there something else to do besides Cool Whip? I kind of find it . . . weird? Would a standard whipped heavy cream work out?
The only difference is that the whipped cream is whipped while heavy cream is in its liquid form and doesn't have sugar added to it. So, you can substitute it but the chocolate will be more liquidy and less sweeter. Up to you 😁
@@OnoHawaiianRecipes Ah. Thanks. I was actually going to substitute whipped cream for the cool whip, or something along those lines (I just make the whipped cream from scratch with sugar and heavy cream in the stand mixer)!
Thank you for sharing this recipe Tawni (sorry, not sure how to spell your name!) I’ve been craving Cocoa Puffs since I moved to the mainland and I’m so excited to try and make it now 😊👍🏼
It's three years late but for anyone else like me who ran into this problem! Check if your instant pudding mix requires an egg! Mine did, so I add three eggs and simmered it in the stove and there got it nice and thick. Some brands like jello don't so I bet they firm up as intended.
You can add corn starch while you’re cooking it so that it thickens more. I also recommend chilling the chantilly overnight, not just for one hour. It thickens a lot with time
Followed the recipe as posted. Made 21 of pastries. The 2 boxes of 6oz Pudding (instant) was double of what is needed and I used very generous portions. Same with the chantilly. Today we are using another puff pastry recipe with the left over filling and topping. The taste is very good!
Moved away 7 years ago. So glad I found these delights. I still get cravings for them today

What temperature and how long do you cook the chantilly?
How long do you cool the dough, a what heat setting do you use for the chantilly? Can you suggest an alternate to the mac nuts if not available?

Ohhhhh I'd love to! Prob when i come bavk home to visit. Near impossible to get here in the mainland 😭
Will that be too much for the pastry mix? You think I could cut the filling and frosting recipe in half? I just made the puffs :)
Yesssss I’ve been waiting for this! Thank you so much! Going to make this for the family on Thanksgiving 😊😊😊😊
Sounds awesome!! I was actually gonna do the same too 😂
Salted or unsalted butter for chantilly frosting & pastry 🤔
I used unsalted butter. Hope that helps 😉
@@OnoHawaiianRecipes Mahalo 🤙 🙂

What type of butter did you use? Salted, unsalted? Also 2 sticks meaning 1 cup? Sorry I just wanna get the chantilly recipe correct.
My grandma used to make these with powder sugar on top.
Hi! Did you have a lot of filling and Chantilly frosting leftover? I only have one box of pudding!
Yeah there was a lot of frosting left, so you could cut the recipe in half.
Isn’t their filling more like a custard? I’ve tried using the instant pudding mix but it is so heavy/thick.
How much did you use?
When you say 2 6 oz boxes instant chocolate pudding mix do you mean buy 2 boxes each one 6 oz? Or 2 boxes of 3oz ?
2x 6oz boxes
Can you show us how to make Hawaiian style char siu and okinawan shoyu pork(using pork belly, pork ribs, and pork butt) next please?🙏🏿
Love your suggestions and I can definitely do that! I'll be adding it to my list 😄 mahalo! 🤙

YUM!!!!
🤤
I did the exact measurements for the choc filling but it came out really milky

Do you need to add the nuts… Is there a substitute for people with nut allergies
You don't need to add the nuts
My frosting isn’t working out!!! Not getting thick, someone help😭😭😭

Filling too liquidy. Should I add another box of mix?
My chantilly didn’t come out thick either
dough was really watery. mixed it as much as i could. didnt hold a peak
Didn’t hold a peak what should I do
Frosting looks clumpy, maybe next time temper the egg yolks.
Correct.

Totally failed at the pastry part. It was watery ugh
Is it 26 oz or 2 6oz?
