  • Damon Garrett Riddick, aka DāM-FunK, is a producer and vocalist who epitomizes a distinctly modern approach to funk music. Ever since his debut album with Stones Throw records in 2009, he has become one of the most revered proponents of the modern funk sound alongside a legendary reputation for live performance and DJing.
We sat down with DāM-FunK to delve deeper into his career, his love for music, and how AstroLab - Arturia’s next-generation performance keyboard - is as easy to use as it is powerful to play.
Special thanks to Glydezone and DāM-FunK for allowing us to feature the track "Above the Fray".

Shout out to DaM-Funk. This is a nicely delivered demo from an everyday personal music-making perspective. Despite the thread's haters and glass-half-empty kind of folks trolling for attention and relevance, Arturia has been hitting it out of the park for years. I don't require a standalone keyboard; I prefer the desktop and controllers. However, if that were to change, the AstroLab or the PolyBrute would undoubtedly be at the top of the list.

Hey Man!! 1st: you're a very interesting & inspiring musician, I like the way you produce such traxx with the nice Funk- character. In my mind all kinds of modern muzak need a certain amount of funk- even slower songs!!
Thanx for introducing the ARTURIA Astro-Lab: I already have a few ARTURIA synths & MIDI/Master-Keyboards in my Studio. In 2019 the Matrix Brute was my 1st analog synth from the French guys- who design & engineer these great instruments. Then I bought a Keylab 61 Mk2 in black- together with the full version of Analog Lab. 2022 I ordered the Poly Brute- a great analog polysynth: I love to play it together with the Matrix Brute (which I have connected via CV/GATE I/O with my erica synths 'Fusion System 2', this brings me endless sound design sessions- e.g. for 6 days just without sleeping...🤯😉). A few months ago I got me the ARTURIA V-Collection & I find it great (I also have Native Instruments' KOMPLETE 14 Ultimate Collector's Edition- which also has nice virtual instruments, FX & a huge sample library & I use the Maschine Studio, Kontrol S61 Mk2 MIDI/Masterkeyboard & Maschine+ for live gigs...but analog synths are more interesting for me, I like the way with my hands on hardware- shaping sounds & creating new ones- together with some FX-gear like ELEKTRON Analog Heat Mk2, Analog Heat +FX, the Sherman Filterbank Dual Rack, erica synths Zen Delay, Pedals like STRYMON Blue Sky, Big Sky & some more...).
For my beats I mainly use the ELEKTRON Analog Rytm Mk2, Syntakt, Octatrack Mk2, JoMoX X-Base 09/Alpha Base, the Moog DAFM...& in 2022 I got me an AKAI MPC X.
But back to ARTURIA: my newest baby in my Studio is the ARTURIA Poly Brute 12!! I know: I own the 6-voice version, but as I have seen the 1st RUclips videos about it- I thaught to myself 'you have to get the 3000€ together & buy this wonderful analog poly synth with the world's first 'MPE' keyboard = full aftertouch.
Just after I played around wirh the Poly Brute 12- I understood this unbelievable great functionality!!
If you did'nt have the opportunity to test this great ARTURIA analog polysynth: check out where you can check this beast out!!
    So: greets from Austria.
Regards, Thomas from Vox Temporis Tonstudio...✌

One question, where can I find that instrumental!? ✨💫

OK, but they're already the selling points you had for Analog Lab - pulling out the DAW really weakens the sell XD

Great demo, but the keybed on a keylab mk3 would have been vastly preferable.

This doesn't help make Astrolab more convincing. It needed more keys, more knobs and sliders, and 3 HDMI outputs for proper monitors.

Basically the Astrolab is £2k of nothing as you basically have no control, it's just a bunch of presets that you have to multi layer as wavs as has zero multi timbrality. Useless.

Alert..! The site is a big pile of garbage where you can't find anything... Arturia hasn't updated the minifuse 2 drivers for years... It's all a load of crap... Never again buy Arturia.
