God bless you!!! My pretty darn new singer quantum stylist 9960 stopped feeding fabric a few days ago.. When I went to clean it out and just look to see if I could See a problem, i did notice that little nut thingy was loose!! I tried tightening and loosening it then trying to sell that did nothing!!! SO thank you SO MUCH, I didn't know you could tighten the white part so thank you so much I do not have the money to take it in for an expensive repair or even a cleaning and oily!! I have to do all that myself, wish is scary, but so far so GOOD God bless you, you save my life and my sewing machine. Lol. Jk Ok maybe not my life, although I can't live WITHOUT sewing/quilting...Much appreciation and prayers from Jennifer and Bakersfield California
Thank you Jeniffer. I am so glad this fix worked for you. When I posted this video a few years back I had no idea how many people would benefit from it. I am seriously blessed!!
Thank you so much Rich. It’s about 2 am and I have a project to finish for tomorrow and that’s exactly what happened with the feed dogs. Your guidance was a life saver. Thanks for being a Good Samaritan and sharing your knowledge. A very appreciative viewer. Best to you and Blessings, Rosita
My Singer Curvy's feed dog control knob is broken off. Somehow, while sewing, the feed dogs dropped on their own. It took me ten tools, a hole in one finger, and some wrestling a heavy machine and I got the feed dogs lifted back up again. But, that little plastic screw, inside of the nut, is VERY hard for me to adjust. That's how I tore my finger open, trying. It was shoving a screw driver inside the little back panel, where the knob should be, that popped the feed dogs back up. Then I discovered that they were too high up (they were going in a square motion) so I adjusted it again and I got it just right. Without your video I would have never figured this out. Thanks very much!
I thank you very much! I have the same machine and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I know now I caused the problem by digging thread knots out of my feed dog because of a fluffy snuggie I was making out of a fleece blanket. After digging out fuzz and knotted thread a few times my feed dog quit working. The fix wasn't easy for me as I unscrewed the nut too much and dropped in and then had to retrieve by a magnet too many times. I closed the machine up and guess what? it works , even without the nut. I'm sure I'll have to get it on eventually but I am thrilled to have my feed dogs working again. It's touchy getting things adjusted just right, but I finally did it. On another machine I had to take it to the shop to fix the feed dogs and found out there was a screw that had fallen down in it. Thank very much for your video!
Thank you so much! Our repair store is closed due to COVID-19. I am making scrub caps and masks for nurses, including my daughter. This worked! God Bless You for taking the time to help others.
I'm also making mask for anyone that needs them, my screw fell apart. I don't know what to do and I have looked every where online for third part.I can find it for a brother machine. The singer repersentive called it something else and said I would have to replace the whose thing.
I just want to thank you for a very helpful video. My machine had the same issue this evening and the manual was absolutely no help at all. I watched your video and after checking the nut behind the feed dog, it was so loose that it was about to come off. With your help, I was able to fix it myself. Thank you so much!!!
I just wanted to say Thank you so much. My Confidence Quilter had this problem and the factory authorized repair people couldn't fix it. Singer could only suggest I didn't know how to operate my machine. Your 3 minute video was the fix! It looks a little different but basically just adjusting the nylon bushing is all it took. You are my hero!
Thank you so much for showing me that little plastic piece. The pin that was being held by it, fell into my machine. You pointed me exactly in the right direction to find the problem. Thank you!!!
thank you so much! this helped me with feeddogs that would would not lift up. i loosened the nut a 1/4 turn and i was able to move them up and down! yaa. from another helpful you tuber, i was able to see that the used machine(a futura xl400) had a bum bobbin case. so between the 2 of you i got my gorgeous machine working perfectly. i even fixed the needle threader so it works. i can't believe all the help that is on you tube. you and the others are amazing to take the time to help others. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for a simple solution! My new machine was delivered today, model #9960, I'm very disappointed in the quality. I had to adjust the plastic case as it wasn't fit together correctly. Then as I was going thru the basics I lowered the feed dogs. Nothing happens when I move the switch to rise the feed dogs.
Great video and explanation of the problem. I just resolved on my wife's machine that was similar except it had a slotted head rather than allen key for plastic screw. I faked my way through it before seeing your video, but you helped me ensure that it's really fixed. You might note that lifting the other side of the "feed dog" mechanism makes the plastic screw and locking nut easier to adjust.
Thanks so much! My wife's machine was new out of the box and when she pressed the button to lower the feed dogs, they wouldn't come back up! You spared us a lot of hassle!
Thank you - I have an older Singer and I could not figure out why the feed dog had dropped. When I took the machine apart, I found the problem and corrected it! Hurrah!
Eerrggghhhh. I completely took apart my machine and NOW I see your video. Will give this a try, but first, gotta get this dern thing back together. Why why why do the manufacturers not provide us with this info in the owners manuals???
I just recently had a problem with my feed dog and your video really educated me, as I was not able to find any information other than your video. Thank you so very much. 5/8/21 from Florida
Just to let you know, it is not a good idea to use compressed air in the bobbin area it can cause the dust to go deeper. You explained everything very well.
Thanks my youngest daughter and I are sewing this season and she constantly gets my feed dogs messed up. I usually go pay 65 dollars for the sewing store to fix it but this is exactly how my brother looks so I am going to try this fix!
Much obliged! Although I’ve only done a small test so far I noticed improved feeding! When cleaning the dust and lint out, my personal preference is to use the included brush and/or Q-Tips, with a vacuum cleaner (smallest attachment you’ve got) in lieu of compressed air
Thank you, Rich! The switch to engage the up-down motion of the feed dog isn't so apparent on the Kenmore model my daughter just received for Christmas. Didn't notice there was any adjustment until I saw your video. We appreciate it!
Awesome! I'm going to fix a machine that has been "fixed" once before and is doing the same things again and this seems to be the issue. Compressed air isn't really a good idea, works in a pinch of you don't have anything else, but an eyelash brush is better to clean out dirt, dust, and threads. The air just really moves it around, and if you've ever taken the whole machine apart you'll know what I mean. There is dirt in places you didn't even know could get there!
You're absolutely awesome! This just happened to my machine and I did everything I could and the switch wasn't working so I figured I'd find it on RUclips and lo and behold yours is the first video I saw and is exactly what I needed. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!
Thank you sooooo much for this video. I’ve had this machine sitting for 4 years. Got it out to do Christmas sewing and the feed dogs were not up high enough. You saved me time and money. Have a great Christmas. 😊👍🏻
Thank you so much for your video, it helped me to fix my machine. My little white piece in the nut broke and had to order new ones and using your video it helped me to see how it worked and I fixed my feed dogs. Thanks again, great video.
I am so glad this video has helped so many people like you! When I made the video I had no idea so many people would encounter the same problem. Thanks for your comment!
Thanks! I have a Singer Quantum Stylistand it works like a charm. I have an issue with the feed dogs of a vintage electrosonic, it drags the fabric by times then it stops moving and then start dragging it again. I'll have to see if it has a similar screw that I can tight.
Thank you so much for this video! I have a sewing machine similar to yours and my feed dogs were not feeding and of course the manual didn't help! BUT YOU DID!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!
Well this video kinda helped .. basically my feeder feet thingy didnt move fabric back as it should but when i opened to see whats under the hood . It had none of the things it was supposed to from the video however i noticed that without the htread attached it worked just fine so i adjusted my thread tention on bottom bobbin and it sews great now :DD leaving this just incase someone has same problem and actual problem is not the feeder but tension messing up your feeder.
Nice catch... Not actually the feed dog height adjustment but very handy to know before fooling with the adjustment cam when it might not need adjustment. I have to say that I've been disappointed with some of the parts Singer is making out of plastic these days.
O.k the first time watching your video great i fixed them but this time i did what you said not to do so now i think it's broken right??? I can't seem to put it back on right.
in my case, the feed dogs were worn out. i wasn't aware this was a part that needs to be replaced every 1-2 years. it feeds, but not well, i usually have to help the fabric along. (singer 2277). i realized this when i got a brother se600 and the feed dogs were actually grabbing the fabric correctly, especially in reverse. the singer didn't do that at all. $10 fix.
My feed dog button no longer returns the feed dog from free sewing back to feed dog sewing. I have to flip it back with a screw driver. I followed your suggestion and removed some thread that was caught but that did not correct the situation. The plastic thing appears to be in a different position and I could not get to it with my allen wrench which is straight and not bent like yours. Any thoughts?
I was so happy to see your video. After I watched it I went to my Singer machine to look for the the the screw behind the feed dogs but there is nothing there on my machine. Do you have any ideas on other places this adjustment could be located.
Donna O I'm not sure wher you might find your particular machine's adjustment but I suspect you could lift up the needle plate and search around with a light. I figured out our machine by looking at everything that connected to the feed dogs and the adjuster became obvious. Good luck on you machine!
My daughter own a 4432 singer. Got the same problem. Rich video helped me to solve it, with the difference that the bolt adjustment is not above (under the needle plate) but below (under the low carter). It was not plastic white but in a black metal. Thanks Rich
Thanks so much for this! I have looked over the underside of my machine. I'm still not positive exactly where to look. I have taken some photos. Could you look them over and point out exactly where the bolt adjustment is? It seems this machine has several differences.
I thought the way it looked under the nut was almost like melted wax as well. My wife's nut was tight, so I loosened made the adjustment from this video and tightened the lock nut. I really wondered if it was melted down there tho too.
Hello! Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 does not cut off the upper thread. The hook cling, but does not hold out the upper thread to the knife. What could be the problem? I can to send a photo on email.
Like he said, don't tighten too much because it will break. Singer discontinued that tiny screw so there's no replacement. I've scoured the net and cannot find it.
Thanks a bunch, Rich! My wife just got this machine for Christmas, and as I was playing with the settings, this issue happened. Fortunately I ran across your video before I had completely torn apart the machine (I only had it half-torn apart!). So tonight you saved a sewing machine and a marriage :-P I did notice that the feed dogs don't lower correctly on my machine now, they're basically locked in the upright position no matter what. It seems like my issue may have to do with the switch's lever-action being either broken or defective. Does that sound like the problem you encountered?

The initial switch that was not your issue, was ours. Thanks for making this video. Saved us some money having to take it in for such an easy fix.

Nice. This worked for my wife's machine. Go easy on the plastic screw though. Mine was flat-head rather than allen key. Thanks muchly.
Thank you! I was able to adjust my feed dogs and raise them enough to do their job properly.
Thanks for the video. I will check this to fix my feed dogs. They are stuck in the down position.

Many many tx for your brilliant demo.
Omg! I was about to cry! Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for making this video!
Was the needel thread getting caught in the bobbin area or what exactly was happening? I am wondering if I need to do this..
Gena, thanks for your encouraging words!
Nice catch... Not actually the feed dog height adjustment but very handy to know before fooling with the adjustment cam when it might not need adjustment.
I have to say that I've been disappointed with some of the parts Singer is making out of plastic these days.
Me too never getting a singer again my old man bought me singer quantum 9985 and problems and more problems sick of it

Hello! What size Allen wrench did you use?
Thank you so very much. You just saved me a shot load of money. Thank you!
I don't see any screws to open the feed dog on my 1975, Singer Athena Electronic 2000 sewing machine, haven't found a serial #
ABSOLUTELY WORKED!!!!! Thank you!!!!
hopefully this will save me a trip to the store

Which way did you turn it?
I am glad that I look this thanks happen to me new out the box have the problem with the brother sq9285 Have the switch on the back
Thank You Man! Your video helped a Lot!!!

Yes, thank you. You can send to odonnaj@yahoo.com
Any ideas? When I check the nut it was loose and not attached to anything. The plastic looks melted.
It figures Im trying to get my Christmas gift sewing completed and the feed dogs arent' doing their job. Going to do this right now. Wish me luck!
Please let us know if it helps. Don't forget to check the feed dog "switch" under the removable table
nice video. so the metal plate is called the "needle plate" good to know.
Like he said, don't tighten too much because it will break. Singer discontinued that tiny screw so there's no replacement. I've scoured the net and cannot find it.
OH MY GOODNESS YOUR BLOODY LYING RIGHT BECAUSE I THINK I JUST BROKE MINE SO what now machine is garbage actually crying my old man is going to go mad
Thanks 👍
Thanks a bunch, Rich! My wife just got this machine for Christmas, and as I was playing with the settings, this issue happened. or it can be called a throat plate but the manual for this machine says needle plate.

hi
I recently bought a M1000 Model and the dog material feeder was made of plastic and it cracked after 2 weeks of use. The bad news was Singer does not even list the part !
That one doesn’t work for me I need to adjust the feed dogs and a different way because it’s not working
Thank you so much! You've just saved me tons of money :-)
Thank you so much
Thank you sir!
Thank you!!!!!
Mind broke I don't know what to do. Please 🥺 help
Annnnd, I broke it. you warned me. What now??
What did you do to get it working again after it broke. Mine has melt off.
DON'T BUY SINGER QUANTUM STYLE 9985 CRAP problem after problem now it looks like i just broke that little screw for feed dogs and no replacement part now what my husband is going to snap
Sorry, Kathy. If they don’t have the part at a Singer repair shop I wonder if the local hardware store (not the big box stores) like Ace or TruValue could match that part. As i recall it looks like a plastic “set screw”. Maybe they could match it with an indestructible metal screw. Good luck.
I was "quite disturbed" about the quality of this video, especially the audio.
Audio was fine and I use hearing aides, and he certainly doesnt speak too fast. In fact speed just right, on the normal side, that way everyone can understand each word. I was having difficulty determining exactly where he put that allen/alan wrench, till hubby showed me that type wrench.
Your weird best video on here biggest help i found
