I've recently just started getting into One Direction. I guess I was a bit too old for their music (or so I thought) but I realise now that music is universal and age is just a number. They have so many fantastic songs and their live vocals & harmonies are top notch!
Like u, I only got into them a couple of years ago, feeling I was too old... But this fandom welcomes anyone with open arms regardless of age, gender, race or sexuality. The fans and the boys are remarkable at acceptance and more and more people are discovering their music now isn't just your traditional teeny bop boy band stuff.
I'm 65 seen and heard some brilliant artists, put One Direction towards the very top, 5/4 voices put together brilliantly :) I've only been listening for 4 years

so some of them still talk a lot, like liam and louis. in general there is no bad blood between any of them, but with zayn its still a bit tricky. of course no one really knows how much they talk but for example, zayn was invited to that performance of louis after his mom passed away, but he was the only one who didn’t show. louis had expressed in interviews that that really bothered him, but it’s been a while and idk where they stand now tbh. they all do what they love now and are happy so i’m really proud of all of them :)

This song is the History we all have together. It's about Zayn as he was also part of One Direction and this song and video, to me, represetns their journey as a band together and I also mainly see it as being about us the fans. We have this history together, we made this journey together and we will always have these memories no matter what.
trying to answer some of your questions: why did zayn leave? now we never got a proper explanation to that, the official announcement involved some vague things like he wanted to enjoy some time on his own and did not want to live under the spotlight all his life. But there are many theories for what actually happened. After zayn left and he came out with his own music, he said he "never really wated to be there". The most popular theory (or you Can say the one that i believe) is that there management was VERY controlling, EVERYTHING they did was being controlled and on a very extended and harmful level. In zayn's case he was never allowed to put his own input to the music they were doing and never had that creative freedom just because his taste was more inclined towards R&B and one direction was supposed to be a "pop" band. He was not even allowed to decide his own hairstyle or keep a beard because it made him look old, and they were supposed to be young and handsome to appeal the young girl audience. This all made zayn to finally rebel and get out of it for his own betterment and his mental health. Many fans also believe that this step paved way for one direction to break up eventually and also be a relief to them because they were going through similar things. (please dont attack me for all of this, you can have different opinions, these were just mine) Hope this helped!
I swear the ending gets me the mist when they all just go their seperate ways, that pulls at my heart strings. I'm a hiatus stan so my regret is not being a fan at tbis time. They were definitely special! I didn't follow them then, but my daughter and I have watched all their videos, concerts, etc. during lockdown. Their friendship makes us so happy (and sad too)... Louis and Liam's water fights and wrestling on stage, Harry's "comedy routines ". Their live stuff is worth looking into- it will bring a smile to your face. Their harmonies are incredible too! I REALLY love this music video, one of my favorites by them. It sums up their journey, it has clips from every music video they made since the start, clips of them together having fun and messing around, clips of the fans and their history together. It’s just so wholesome and heartwarming to watch.
Their whole (almost) made in the AM album feels like a goodbye one, history in my opinion is about the fans and their relationship, AM (song) feels for themselves by them.

Louis said that they probably weren't mature enough to have that conversation but as people say: time usually heals so maybe one day. I sure hope so.

I really want them to be friends again, they were very close in the band and I know that deep down they still care for each other. I've had similar experiences with my best friends before. Whether that will eventually happen remains to be seen,but I think pretty much 99.9% want a reunion. U should really react to their whole discography... Starting with their final album, made in the am... Some amazing work and yeah Louis wrote on most of the songs from their 3rd album onwards, mainly with Liam... I love your reactions!!! Please continue with 1D....they have so many great songs. I am an older fan and constantly kick myself for not getting to a concert that last year they toured. I had planned on going but wound up on crutches and was just concerned that it would just be too much trying to move around on crutches with the size of the audience. So I have that regret... but I was able to see Harry Styles in concert at Radio City Music Hall. He was amazing...a born entertainer!! I have tickets to see Harry again as well as Louis for the first time whenever concerts resume. Well, I watched Louis’ livestream and he was so, so good. It was actually Louis’ voice that drew me to this group. They did a cover of a song that I loved from the 80s and his voice was so clear, beautiful and unique. It is Forever Young by Alphaville!! Then, like so many others, I went down the 1D rabbit hole from that point. It is at this point that my husband is absolutely sick and tired of me mentioning anything related to One Direction but oh well....😉 They wrote great songs, they all have incredible voices individually and their harmonies are absolutely beautiful. It's so true what you said about being nostalgic about 1d even though you weren´t into them at the time. I believe that's why they had/have this massive fandom because they make you feel one of them by just listening and watching them being themselves. I just can't watch it without crying. They were saying goodbye to us and it was pretty beautiful to include Zayn in it. Since Zayn left they always left a room for him in every mv it is just heartbreaking. If I'm not wrong the only one that still talks with Z is Niall, Zayn said that they still talk but Liam, Louis and Harry don't. Louis' mom last wish was to him and Zayn became friends again, but Louis said that he was really hurt because Zayn was the only one of the boys that didn't show up to support him when his mom passed away and that is the main problem to him.

But the reason they went on break was because they were mistreated from start to end. They were groomed, Zayn got an eating disorder and got anxiety, Liam got addicted to alcohol and had suicide thoughts, Niall was not allowed to have surgery on his knee so he had to walk around with a really really bad knee for years, they didn’t get to sleep (they slept from ten min to three hours), they were always on your, always locked in a room except when they were performing, some of them had to pretend to be someone they weren’t. For the sake of fame, they were NOT allowed to talk about their sexuality or anything like that, ECT!!! so they were mistreated BADLY. And Liam said that “I had to get out of that band. We needed the break, or else it would have killed me. And I’m not even joking” so yea. That’s just a bit of it…
They did this video for us. Because we are the greatest team, what the world has ever seen. Their history includes us fans. No one has such loyal fans as 1D. And Zayn was part of that history, too.

Yeah your nostalgic comment. That's how i felt. Never followed the band, no connection, yet felt nostalgic like goodbye, memories, and bittersweet...
History was mainly written for the fans about our journey with them and the fact that it was a promise for them to come back and do it all again one day. Whether that will eventually happen remains to be seen,but I think pretty much 99.9% want a reunion.
U should really react to their whole discography... Starting with their final album, made in the am... Some amazing work and yeah Louis wrote on most of the songs from their 3rd album onwards, mainly with Liam... Maybe if u do a track by track, u can look each one individual for the songwriters... You will fall completely down the rabbit hole!! And welcome, it's a hell of a ride.

I love your reactions!!! Please continue with 1D....they have so many great songs. I am an older fan and constantly kick myself for not getting to a concert that last year they toured. I had planned on going but wound up on crutches and was just concerned that it would just be too much trying to move around on crutches with the size of the audience. So I have that regret... but I was able to see Harry Styles in concert at Radio City Music Hall. He was amazing...a born entertainer!!
I have tickets to see Harry again as well as Louis for the first time whenever concerts resume. Well, I watched Louis’ livestream and he was so, so good. It was actually Louis’ voice that drew me to this group. They did a cover of a song that I loved from the 80s and his voice was so clear, beautiful and unique. It is Forever Young by Alphaville!!
Then, like so many others, I went down the 1D rabbit hole from that point. It is at this point that my husband is absolutely sick and tired of me mentioning anything related to One Direction but oh well....😉
They wrote great songs, they all have incredible voices individually and their harmonies are absolutely beautiful. I look forward to you delving more into this band. Thanks!!

It's so true what you said about being nostalgic about 1d even though you weren´t into them at the time. I believe that's why they had/have this massive fandom because they make you feel one of them by just listening and watching them being themselves.

Yeah, the music video is so bitter sweet. I love it and it's so lovely to see all the flashbacks and then the sadness that now it's all over. It's just. I just can't watch it without crying. They were saying goodbye to us and it was pretty beautiful to include Zayn in it. Since Zayn left they always left a room for him in every mv it is just heartbreaking.
If I'm not wrong the only one that still talks with Z is Niall, Zayn said that they still talk but Liam, Louis and Harry don't.
Louis' mom last wish was to him and Zayn became friends again, but Louis said that he was really hurt because Zayn was the only one of the boys that didn't show up to support him when his mom passed away and that is the main problem to him.

you were so close, but the boys said that the song is about the history between them and the fans. since they gained fame from the fans voting for them on the x-factor, they literally owe everything to them, and thats what they said that this song is about. it was their last single, and was kinda like a goodbye (at this point we were under the impression that they would be back in 18 months, its been 6 years.....) but yeah. zayn is in the flashbacks because he was an important part of the band and they didnt want to disclude him:)

History has been described by one d as sort of like a love/goodbye letter to fans and it kinda makes sense if u think abt the lyrics as like a conversation between the band and their fans like harry Niall and Liam are singing the fan s parts and Louis part is one d s answer to them. Idk if it's true just smth I noticed .
This song is to the fans, that the fans and the boys are the greatest team, they have another song called walking in the wind that is about him:) the fans and them had alor of history and they also said in a interview that. It's also like that with "don't let us go, we can make some more, we can live forever" it's like, don't give up on us, we can live forever, 1d forever and next time we reach higher
I really think that Niall and Harry’s part are like us (fans) talking and Louis and Liam’s part are them (band). They are talking to each other... fans and the band😔❤️

They all said that they had SOOOO much fun and that they would like to come back. But they still need a bit more time. But the reason they went on break was because they were mistreated from start to end. They were groomed, Zayn got an eating disorder and got anxiety, Liam got addicted to alcohol and had suicide thoughts, Niall was not allowed to have surgery on his knee so he had to walk around with a really really bad knee for years, they didn’t get to sleep (they slept from ten min to three hours), they were always on your, always locked in a room except when they were performing, some of them had to pretend to be someone they weren’t. For the sake of fame, they were NOT allowed to talk about their sexuality or anything like that, ECT!!! so they were mistreated BADLY. And Liam said that “I had to get out of that band. We needed the break, or else it would have killed me. And I’m not even joking” so yea. That’s just a bit of it…

They wrote it for their fans because we have all supported them from day one. Those 5 years are a special time in History that will never be duplicated! I believed they were the biggest boy band for a decade.2010-2020 I think?? I could be wrong I thought I seen it somewhere.

this song is more about their history with the fans, they have said it themselves, it’s their last music video and it’s basically a goodbye to the fans, if you look at the lyrics that way it makes the most sense. it’s not directed to zayn but it does include him because he was part of the band for almost 5 years.
I think they made this song when they were thinking about breaking up and the connection they had with their fans. The history they had with each other and their fans.
As a fan that has been in the 1D fandom since 2012 to me this music video is more for the fans as a farewell celbrateing all the memories we shared it definitely can be for zayn to but as a thank you for all the memories and great times.

I do think they are still buds, maybe not as close as they were, but they've all stated they talk sometimes and even have a whatsapp group (the four, of them, without Zayn). And Liam and Louis are very close.

I also only got into them because of their solowork. I started with Harry and now I love them all 😁. One Direction has great songs in different genres and their harmonies are beautiful. I really love the acoustic versions of ‘more than this’, ‘one thing’, ‘Little things’ and ‘night changes’. But you can’t go wrong. Most of their songs are great. 🙏
I started when my Granddaughters played Louis Tomlinson "Two of Us" I feel in love....I lost my mom, Dad, brother and daughter at a early age....So I started on RUclips looking up the song and "One Direction" can up!!!! Now I'm In Love!!!

As people are saying this song in particular is just about their history and their jounrey as a band that just includes Zayn another song on the album "walking in the wind" is more toward Zayn specifically but this being their last single is just about the time they had together as band and and as as fandom this video is more talking to the fans and getting us to remember "this is not the end, we can make it"
They’ve always been so supportive of each other, which is something I love about this band. Even Zayn and Louis who were best friends then went through a very rough patch, still had hella respect for each other (they’re fine now). They always speak about each other with such respect and talk about how proud they are of each other. They still hang out when they can, have a WhatsApp group too. Just yesterday louis tweeted that he’s sees Liam active on Instagram so why isn’t he picking up his calls 😭

I can’t say for certain but I have always taken the song History to be a song for the fans. They new they were going on a break and it was a song reminding us of all the good times. It could definitely have been for Zayn but I think it was more about us the fans . ❤️
