Some time ago, Berlin was hyped as the place that would take on California for entertainment, tech and coolness, I and a few of my mates bought into this, figuring the city to be affordable and cool and expertly positioned to provide the European challenge, anyway it didn't, so we dismissed the city as a punk theme park as bland as all those wine bars in London. Anyway time moved on, and no where else took on California, so that appears much more as a global problem rather than, specifically, a Berlin problem. Then, quite recently, I got good reports of Berlin from both Americans and English. So I checked out a number of videos including yours, and found the urban atmospherics to be genuine North European stuff rather than the phoniness that I had suspected. So cheers again.
Thank you very much for your perspective. I think Berlin is overhyped in many ways, and a lot of things have taken a turn for the worse, especially in the last few years. But I still love the city for many things. I have indeed never been to California. Sounds like I need to check it out to understand more clearly what you mean.
