In Korea, it is common to peel melons like this video because the flesh on the skin side of Korean melon is bitter and hard. (It tastes bad.. you will get this if you try korean melon) It's similar to not eating the white part when you eat watermelon. As a Korean, I was just thinking that this woman is very good at cutting! These reactions are quite interesting

They can waste so much melon when they are selling it retail, but if it was for their own family, they would need to be more conservative on the waste.
I'm usually the first one to complain about waste but honestly I don't believe he's wasting that much here... That melon skin is THICK, and since he is selling it to customers "ready-to-eat" on a stick, he has to make sure there is no skin left at all. You don't want the customer to bite into a hard, rubbery piece of melon. If I'd buy this on from a street vendor, I'd prefer he remove a bit more skin than not enough.
If you peel this melon too close to skin you will have bitter flesh. The flesh close to the skin is bitter, so bitter part was peeled off leaving only the sweetest part of the fruit.
What I like the most is I watched him really carefully from the beginning to the end his fans never ever lets the inside he's where you're going to eat it
In America, more specifically in Latin America (I'm from Peru) if a mom sees you cutting a melon like that, she's going to beat you up and yell at you why the hell you despised so much fruit :D Melons are not that expensive, they won't cost more than 3 or 4 dollars, even in some places they cost less than 1 dollar, but still mom will send you to see San Pedro if you dare to peel something wrong

You don't have to be a pro fruit cutter or whatever to know if someone's cutting is a good or bad. What kind of a dumb argument is that? And his guy is supposed to be an actual professional, and yet cuts like some amateur and wastes nearly a quarter of the fruit.
