If you would like to hear a comparison of these pedals without the drums and bass, drop me a comment. If there is enough interest I can make that happen. Ok - I have made the video ruclips.net/video/Y5Ig4DdKjHo/видео.html A comparison of the BOSS CE-2 and Afterglow with no other instruments. I play the bridge pickup on a Fender Stratocaster, Fender Jazzmaster and Epiphone Les Paul trying the pedals on each.
I bought an Afterglow because of your video. What I liked it: the sound. It is amazing! My issues: its size. 1) It is a "big" pedal, not a pedaboard friendly; 2) The footswitch makes a popping sound when it is engaged. I've read some reviews and it seems like it is a character of the pedal.
I'm not sure why TC Electronic made the pedal that large but all of their pedals in that range are the same size. At least the jacks are top mounted so the pedal takes up about the same width as a side mounted boss pedal but I prefer the size of the their newer pedals such as the Zeus. As far as the 'popping' sound goes mine doesn't do that. I have several other of the pedals in this range and none of them do that either. I would return your Afterglow for another if you can.
That popping sound has to do with buffer(s) in your chain. I have a Morley Wah pedal first in my chain. It is buffered bypass and it makes all the pedals after it pop. If I take the Morley out, no more pedals popping when engaged.
I bought the CE-2 back in about 1990 so it is always a favourite of mine but the Afterglow's sound is excellent and you get the mix control. Hopefully my video shows just how good it can sound in a mix and it also sounds great solo. Unfortunately CE-2's are very expensive today (not the £38.00 new price I paid) but there is the WAZA version. One thing to know, the switch on the Afterglow engages after you push it down and then lift up, not when you push down like most pedals. Some people hate this, others don't care. If you really want the CE-2 sound, you may want to check out my video on the MOOER Ensemble King, it is practically the same.
Bro that's crazy that the TC sounds that good I bought mine used for about 36 bucks... The fact that even it can compare to a $200 pedal blows my mind.
Thank you that's interesting to know. Initially I set the Afterglow mix to 'full' but the chorus effect on the Afterglow sounded (to me at least) much stronger than the CE-2 at that setting. I guessed the CE-2 mixed a bit of dry signal back in with chorus so I set the Afterglow mix control to where they sounded as close to each other as I could get them in the room.
Way way way closer then they should be for 50 bucks vs 220.... I have the afterglow. I'm not upgrading. Cause it's not really a upgrade in anything but price
They do sound very similar. The Afterglow also gives you ability to set the level of the chorus effect which can be useful if you only want subtle chorusing

Yeah. Definitely. I would not notice a difference in these in a live band situation.

They sound the same, the Afterglow is amazing
Just bought the Afterglow. Love it, great pedal!
It is a very good sounding analog chorus, one of the best pedals in that range by TC Electronic
How could you spend $200 on the boss after watching this right?

The pop isn't the pedal. And it's like 1/2 inch bigger
Great demo, thank you! 🌌🌠🌅👍🏻
How about turning off the delay so we can hear what the chorus pedals sound like?
Sure, try this video ruclips.net/video/Y5Ig4DdKjHo/видео.html
Which one did you prefer? I'm looking at the after glow as a budget option.

@@octoplod I might have a look at the mooer as well. Not thought of that one. Thanks for the info.

Technically the Boss has the mix at maximum level, afterglow not so its modulated signal is weaker and partially mixed with the dry signal.

@@octoplod that's interesting! So afterglow is anyway a good choice!

I can't much difference.... I have both pedals... I haven't used the afterglow

Parecem um só pedal. Achei que eles não tem diferença. São totalmente iguais, até nas posições dos knobs.
Sim eu concordo 🙂
With delay in the mix too??
Yes both chorus pedals run through the same delay effect
To me the Afterglow has a little more sparkle…
It is great sounding chorus for the price
Bingo! That's why I chose the TC. I just knew it would go with the Telecaster better .... And it's. Perfect 😊
