I usually fold paper like this while listening to lectures during class. But i never realised that u could fold it this way to make a ball, gonna try it now
Oh my god the nostalgia, these balls are truly magic, made me the popular kid from the boring nerd in my middle school. I used to make these for other classmates in exchange for chocolates.
For anyone wanting to learn origami: •Yes, the ruler is important for crisp folds. Crisp folds are important~ •No, your finger will not be enough for crisp folds(using your nail works for me about half the time because of the way my nail naturally arcs but it works better for those with flatter nails) •Go slow and be ultra precise for best results. Edit: yes, I know this video contains kirigami not origami. I used origami because more people recognize what that is even if they don’t do it. Every tip also works with kirigami.
oc you use your nails or fingers duh I have never used a ruler nor seen anyone using a ruler until this video. Instead I know of pencils being used for various purposes, not including the flattening. go slow and precise, that is in fact important.
@ the “of course” and “duh” are not appreciated seeing as your “duh”s 1) don’t make crisp folds(fingers) and doesn’t always work reliably for everyone(nails). I used to used a ruler all the time, the tool isn’t important - just that it have a flat edge
@@saorise28 I thought using both oc and duh would make clear that I'm not serious. Do whatever works for you. I would however not recommend nails either as they make the folds tear more easily. Usually I just use my fingers and good japanese paper which will fully crease with just fingers. Never thought about it too much honestly.
this is why more schools/classes need to allow crafts in classes. ive got an elderly classmate who saw me sewing or doodling in class, and she was so worried about wanting to crochet, and i told her that she should really go ahead and do it, and told her it even helps you associate it with parts of a lecture, and she came and thanked me for it. luckily we have a cool professor but some profs have complained about people so much as brushing their hair
I would make these as a kid ❤ they took time but the glue and the type of paper makes it not origami origami is the art of folding paper. The practice is very deliberate in how it works.
@@lrose5522 not exactly origami has specific rules you can call any paper craft origami but true origami is often with a square piece of paper and no other items. You won’t find an origami book mentioning glue or scissors because it’s a fux paw and frowned upon if you have to use glue or scissors to make it work then you are not doing it right.
The type of paper doesn't strictly matter, it's just often easiest to make origami models with rice paper. But aside from that, yeah this wouldn't strictly fit the definition of origami by the standards of most origami purists. I think most enthusiasts are more lenient towards the "starting with a square" part these days because only a pedant would look at models like Robert Lang's Black Forest Cuckoo Clock and say it's not really origami because it doesn't start with a square. But when they started using glue in this video instead of one of the many existing locking mechanisms, or cut a section off of the model instead of getting the proportions of the original paper correct from the start, then I think most origami enthusiasts would probably agree this doesn't really fit their definitions. Also it's not like there aren't plenty of existing and classic models that can make a sphere like the waterbomb for which the waterbomb base is named after. For anyone who don't want to use a tool or have a tool to make such snatched folds: The way I make them is using my index fingers nail and my thumbs nail. I pinch the crease with the tip of my nails and just go right along the crease that I want. Hopefully, I explained this well enough. I also do that to cut paper if I don't have scissors with me. I just do the fingernail trick, then fold the crease the other way and do the same thing over and over until it seems thin and weak enough to carefully tear apart. Usually I repeat that process 5 times but it also depends on how thick the paper is.
I do that trick to cut paper as well. I don't do it 5 times tho, maybe twice, but usually only once unless the paper is thicker than standard copy-paper (but you should be using thin paper for origami anyway). If you line it up at the edge of a table it tears away pretty easily without having to fold over and over so much
