Often times this tension in the voice is actually the muscles around the larynx are pulling on it when your voice gets tired and when this happens too often the body learns the habit of the vocal chords not touching when you sing or speak as a main technique. you start to lose your high notes and resonance and eventually if untreated you loose more and more notes and can potentially lose your ability to speak (but that’s worse case scenario). This condition is called muscular tension disphonia and often this is undiagnosed by the ENT because when they put the camera down your throat they don’t ask you to sing or speak to make sure your vocal chords are touching properly. Muscular Tension Disphonia will make your throat sore and ache because all the muscles of the throat are working overtime. It is always treatable even if you do lose your ability to speak. It’s completely reversible.

Hi guys, I love the creativity of this idea! I am going to try this for certain. It really aligns with the principles I use for healing. Excellent! Thank you so much! Illura
First of all, I have to say this vibrator idea, is brilliant!! I happen to see this the other day and I can't wait to try it. When I was seeing an ENT at the Mayo Clinic for my vocal issues, they were using something like this on me every time to relax my larynx before an exam. This was about 10 years ago and I've always wanted something like this to use at home, but never would I have thought of using THAT. Again, brilliant!! The machine at Mayo was big. Maybe 2 feet x 2 feet x 1 foot. It had a wand that was attached with a cord. Never got the name. It was not an ultrasound device and there was no heat, only vibration. They did use heat sometimes, but the wand itself produced no heat. It was an older device. Late 70's or early 80s maybe. Nothing digital. I have arthritis all through my neck and everywhere really, but as a result, my larynx is always super tight. After they would give me this vibration session, I would loosen up so well and my voice was much improved. But it didn't last very long, a day or two maybe. Can you provide more details on what the danger is of getting the vibrator too close the the arteries in the neck? I'm not foolish enough to crank it up and put it right over the artery, but what DOES happen at low levels or high levels if you get it near or over the artery?
Hi Phil, If you are concerned about massaging the area over your carotid artery then obviously it is best to avoid that area, though with the vibrator you wouldn't need to press hard at any point. I'd advise you to see a trained laryngeal massager/manual therapist and get some guidance and advice. Cheers, Line
I had a polyp from MTD last year. My treatment consisted of speech therapy, physical therapy, massage therapy, and I was told to get a "massager" for neck and tongue massage at home. Worked like a charm. Now polyp free!
I always keep one in my gig bag, and an extra set of batteries. It's very useful to also just feel better and in the laryngeal area. I go over my facial muscles and it just feels fabulous.
This is brilliant. Found this video from David Dinuzio. I have had no head voice/high singing voice off and on for years. Two vocal cord surgeries in 2008 and 2013, from overuse (I'm a music teacher). I have reached out to voice teachers constantly... done warmups (safe, and helpful), sleep with a cool mist humidifier, eat decently, get plenty of sleep. And yet, my voice is still garbage. It's not always like this-- one to three days a month, I can sing anything. I have no idea why. But the other 27 days, I can barely sing. It's so weird. Acupuncture has helped me tremendously in 2014 to 2018, but since then, my voice has been crap (haven't seen my acupuncturist regularly for a couple years). I have a feeling this will be the ONE thing that will finally help me get my high singing voice back. I really appreciate your insight... David Dinuzio swears by the vibration method.... I think this is exactly what I have been looking for for YEARS. Can't wait to try it. Thank you.

Ha ha ha!!! Been dealing with strained and tight neck muscles for years. Very often I would get a "bubble feeling" in my ears when singing, and I would have to bend over and drop my head to get that to go away. I have been seeing a massage therapist, which is quite expensive and not always lasting long enough. Then I caught a viral infection and lost my voice completely. I had to cancel 6 upcoming gigs, and take antibiotics. Flu/cold symptoms went away but voice was shot. I started freaking out! Would I ever be able to sing again??? What could I do in my life if I loose the most important part of my body??? Today, I am on the last day of the antibiotics. I have had no pain in the throat since 4 days, just dryness. I tried to speak - horrible! Vocal cords were paralyzed. I looked up I think 50 youtube videos until I came to this one!!! What a concept! In rehabilitating the vocal cords, this "vibration" brings them back to life! (Thank God I have a vibrator - come on girls - we ALL do!) After 5 minutes of using it on my neck as shown in the video, I tried to speak again. Sound came out! I massaged more (another session of 5 minutes) and went ahead to do my facial muscles and further neck and shoulder muscles. I tried speaking again: my normal voice was back! Ok... I still feel a bit of "virus" in me...and the vocal folds are a bit irritated maybe from this, but I started speaking 90% normally! OMG!!! What an easy and effective tool! I will buy a smaller version the next sex shop as soon as I can (mine is quite large ;-) - which makes it great for massaging the back muscles :-)) Thank you!!!!
i heard this works and i lost my head voice and falsetto from blowing my voice out to geddy lee and alex turner. I want it back and its been 3 days and i want it back. what do i type in to buy something for this without getting ads for vibrators and crotchless chaps and swings showing up on the side of my screen?
So feel kind of silly asking this question but where can I get this from? I have had two vocal surgeries one when I was 21 so that had to be back in the 80s and one back in 2018. Can't name names, but when a famous singers vocal cords blew my doctor is the first one they called. He's really good, Cleveland Clinic. I have a lot of health issues going on one being Lupus and I know there are joints in the throat because we've discussed this, anyway he said when I came to him my vocal cords were worse than this person that he got the phone call from, the manager. So I am actually seeing a speech pathologist. About 8 months ago I had a spasm in my throat and it caused a hemorrhage which we didn't know about and I thought something funny was going on and I went in to see him, told him what happened, and sure enough there was a hemorrhage but I was at the end of it. Sometime later I went back we found an anomaly in my throat I'm seeing the speech pathologist and she said my issue is tension, stress, something about my muscles won't disengage from my larynx she said said I'm SOOO tense and stressed in my throat and back so I really need to know where to get one of these at

Hi, Here is a blog written by Elissa on a variety of vibrators that can be used for releasing throat muscle tension: vibrantvoicetechnique.com/2016/06/30/update-on-devices/. Hope you have success with the technique, it has certainly helped many singers I have worked with. If the MTD has been around for so long you may need to find a practitioner that can do some manual release around the larynx (Laryngeal Manual Massage or similar) usually a Speech Therapist/Pathologist, Osteopath, Physiotherapist or similar with this specific training. It is painful but worth it. then you would use the vibrator technique to maintain muscle release. Where are you located? Line Hilton Vocal Coach/Performing Arts Medicine Specialist www.isingmag.com
I've already seen 3 ENTs n two speech therapists n had 1 botox injection wit no improvement. My tension sometimes seems to release somewhat on it's own n most days it's jus so frustrating. I'm about to start seeing a new therapist soon but I'm jus waiting for an opening. I'm located in belen new mexico n thank u so much for your quick reply n also the knowledge included in it. I am sorry you are suffering in this way. As I understand it your story is a common one. It isn't easy to find health professionals who understand the condition that well - if at all, worrisome I know. If your condition is closer to spasmodic dysphonia then it's a neurological issue not muscular - it still effects the muscles but the origin is neural. I only say this as Botox is more commonly used for that condition than for MTD. Spasmodic Dystonia is more challenging to treat and there are only a few people in the world who are focused on this condition. You may need to go further afield for correct diagnosis and treatment. make a follow up video on explaining to your parents that you need a vibrator to 'release vocal tension'
