And dog are like any living thing, they’re all different and like different things, some dogs might find their cage comforting and a safe place. Other dogs might not like the cage in which it maybe useful as a punishment for being bad

Animals are waaaaayyyy more flexible than I had imagined 🤯
I wish I had video of when my rabbit escaped, he is very clever when it comes to finding his way out of cages and gated off areas
This one time, we had this older hutch outside that had a single wooden back panel. Over time, the panels staples degraded and the New England winters caused it to warp, leaving a two inch gap between the hutch frame and the backing panel. Anyway, this was unknown to me or my family for quite some time. It wasn’t until my neighbor approached me one day with a bag of carrots they bought for our bunny when they saw him in their yard. I was like “what” and they said they had seen him multiple times near their back porch and had bought some carrots to give to him. I asked if they had put them back and they said no and that they couldn’t catch him. I thanked them for the carrots and asked my family if any of them had seen the bunny escape, and they all said no. I thought nothing of it until I looked out my window about a week later and saw our rabbit outside of his cage. When I went outside to get him, HE WAS BACK IN HIS HUTCH. This is when I realized he would leave his cage when we were gone and when our side door opened or he heard the car pull up he would go back through that little gap and act as if nothing happened. It took me a minute but I eventually found the warped backing board and stapled it back in place, and got a nasty glare from our rabbit. I wish I had a camera for our back yard so I could have seen him going in and out
Edit: I forgot to mention my rabbit was moved to a new hutch we made for him shortly after, it’s big enough for several people to sit it comfortably and has a large run on the bottom level, and a isolated area up a ramp (which has weatherproofing in it)
Thank you for the beautiful story! It made me laugh with tears in my eyes. Especially at the part with "he pretended nothing happened" and "nasty glare". Yes, they do. They are very intelligent and they can be masters of disimulation if they want to. I am not talking just about rabbits, but about pets, animals generally.
