I'd score this interview 10 out of 10. Obviously, Dick Cavette's questions are exactly those which fans want to hear and ABBA meets them head on with thoughtful responses. While tasteful, the jabs are huge fun and they show off ABBA's good nature. They were a super group all the way around.
Cavett was of breed long gone from American TV. He actually listened to what his guests said. Contrast his style to Larry King, who just read questions and really didn't listen to the responses he got. You can spot it a mile away. "What's your favorite color?" Answer: "I would say blue, but then I like red as well." Follow-up: "Do you like any other color besides blue?" STAY AWESOME! :)
Cavett was often rather bumbling and lost in his interviews. But let's give credit where due: he got Agnetha to tell her knickers story and gave her the time to tell it charmingly.
True. But he is also fluent in Spanish, as I found out only recently: ruclips.net/video/9eRhWEiWzUA/видео.html Musicians are usually good with languages. It's logical, because it takes a good set of ears for both.
Dick Cavet makes watching paint dry seem exciting. What a question about asking them if they have lost anything because of their fame and the 2 couples just after breaking up
Actually, this is excellent. You have to realize the nature of Swedish people, ABBA, in particular, as humble, not wanting to attract attention, etc.Dick is OK.
well I actually enjoy the interview, I know it coulb be waaay better but at least they were having a good time, although Frida didn't talk to much but still her accent is cute. hey when Agnetha was saying that about her knickers and said but I was 5 so Im excused, did Bjorn said "you'll be excused now too?(3:23), intersting hehe, love the way she laughs and tells the story, her accent is so cute too...what can I say ABBA is just great!
thank you for posting this wow long in depth interviews are just not done like this any more...if you can't say it in four and a half minutes between commercials forget it. I always enjoyed Dick Cavett's intelligent questions...gb
It is actually painful to watch Dick Cavett interview anyone. I would have loved to see Johnny Carson interview these fabulous people who gave us such great and unforgettable music.
I really like Dick Cavett and think that he's usually a very interesting interviewer. This interview isn't his best one, but he suffers from manic depressive disorder and it's possible that during that interview he could've been off, comically and professionally, due to his disorder.
Cavett asked about the price that they had payed for their success. interesting that Bjorn and Benny answered, but Frida and Anna didn't have anything to say. No one mentioned their personal estrangements and the ending of their marriages, which were both gone by 1981.
@raidergunz if this explanation makes you happy, so it shall be --- sure is, new orleans style music was created in new orleans, the categorizing i leave to others
There was a definitive sadness.....yes Benny...you lost each other! And that price is much too high! I am sure that they all regret their break-ups and in the end, they will realize it if they dont already!
@AORMETALGORE I heartily agree on their beauty, but I take issue with your use of the word "superficial." They are both hard working professionals with a lot of class, better behaved than just about anyone with their level of celebrity. So I maintain that their beauty is not superficial, but indicative of their character.
Its a total mystery to me why Dick Cavett had such a big success with his show. Its so unconfortable to watch him. He seems so unconfortable himself. Its probably becayse tv has changed so much since then.
Oh my god, i want to see Anni-Frid and Agnetha more than Dick Cavett but after he asks them a question ,the camera just stays on Dick Cavett ,i am glad times have changed now.
Where is Alan Carr when you need him? The talent of a host is to be charismatic and to bring out the best in your guests. He was so crap!! This interview seemed like everyone had been gassed! Or had smoked a massive bong.
well, first of all they were excellent musicians and not entertainers and that's why they look slightly uncomfortable... and at this point they were already tired of being abba.
3 года назад+1
they don't write or read music !!!!!!!!! WOW Agnetha????
@royko22 Interesting take on a pop interview and some of it true, I completely agree that it is very patronising for millionaires to attempt to practice socialism as they can't... they're milionaires. Your use of the term "evil", however, is oppression in it's highest and ugliest form

It still seems a little unreal they are back!! New songs are so ABBA, like there have never been those 40 years of silence...Outstanding ABBA!!
I love the way Agnetha's talking It's sounds so happy!
Frida looks so lovely here, but then again she always does.
You're right, Frida always looks lovely...
Yep!! 🥰🥰
A Very Great Group ABBA And A Very Great Credit To Music With Their Super Songs And Friendly Manner.
Brilliant! I haven't seen this since 1981!!!! Agnetha is very open.
They were hugely successful everywhere except in the United States. They still selling millions of records today.
abba=great people, such a differ with todays mentality- reason why they are still loved- and off course their genius music,
I love the story of Agnetha and her laughing at the and!:-)
You can actually hear Agnetha laughing.....
AGNETHA is perfect!

STAY AWESOME! :)
I love how she says short!

Bjorn's English is perfect. And he speaks it with a British accent! That's cool!
And his lyrics are near to perfect.
True. But he is also fluent in Spanish, as I found out only recently: ruclips.net/video/9eRhWEiWzUA/видео.html Musicians are usually good with languages. It's logical, because it takes a good set of ears for both.
fantastic interview, fantastic!
Dick Cavet makes watching paint dry seem exciting. What a question about asking them if they have lost anything because of their fame and the 2 couples just after breaking up
I love them!
Wow. Lives up to his name!
God I love them ay they're soo cute! Hehe and quite:3
You believe it when Benny says....that you loose Reality.....speaking of immense Fame. I wish they would have talked more about that.
i could sleep because of Fridas voice
Actually, this is excellent. You have to realize the nature of Swedish people, ABBA, in particular, as humble, not wanting to attract attention, etc.Dick is OK.
YEah Bjorn has always been particularly Anglicised. He ended up living in Britain full time (for a few years) after ABBA split.
Dick Cavett was brilliant. No one touches him as an interviewer today.
This reminds me of some job interviews I've had to sit through.
GREAT !!!
Benny is so handsome, they all are handsome and beautifull group
Aaahhh... The time when aretists were actually talented!
well I actually enjoy the interview, I know it coulb be waaay better but at least they were having a good time, although Frida didn't talk to much but still her accent is cute. hey when Agnetha was saying that about her knickers and said but I was 5 so Im excused, did Bjorn said "you'll be excused now too?(3:23), intersting hehe, love the way she laughs and tells the story, her accent is so cute too...what can I say ABBA is just great!

Wow....I'm really unimpressed with Dick Cavett.....a really poor interview for tv....thanks for posting this, I love seeing anything with ABBA talking
Actually thought it was a very good interview. The questions were well thought out and he was respectful and go through a bit of banter around.
So, this interview reveals why they hate touring, the secluded feeling and wearisome work of it all...
It's the Dork Cavett Show everybody...
When it comes to those who Cavett doesn't know personally . . . he's a putz.
There seems to be a lot of tension in the air.
0.31 Benny looked so sad when he said that
Dick is such a good interviewer.
It is actually painful to watch Dick Cavett interview anyone. I would have loved to see Johnny Carson interview these fabulous people who gave us such great and unforgettable music.
The Comments on this Video are Hilarious. 😄

@maor1810 well it isn't their first language after all.. how is your Swedish?
What the hell is Björn wearing? looks like a discarded costume from Star Wars
but you pointed one of your chins at me wtf 🤣

@doloresmo, that is so true...

Awkward and announcing divorce
Knowing 3 knowing 2
ABBA
Haha, that's so true. I dont know why that is... he seems nervous somehow

Who's Gretha?
jealous? no way, more concerned about matters more important, just like abba seem to be.
This Dick Cavett is no good moderator...He's sooooo slowly in asking questions and nearly everything he's doing ;-)
@Liiinnea hahahhahahah
knickers
On a fashion-related note, what is Bjorn wearing???!
I am sorry to say this but Dick Cavett ask some of the stupidest questions in history!OMG!
Quiet
Well....some of the celbrities from back then sure as hell weren't refined or civilized either.
lol
Where is Alan Carr when you need him?
The talent of a host is to be charismatic and to bring out the best in your guests. He was so crap!! This interview seemed like everyone had been gassed! Or had smoked a massive bong.
dunno but Philip Carr was my old English teacher at C.C.B Baldi middle school in philly... lmao
Hes direspectfull to them
well, first of all they were excellent musicians and not entertainers and that's why they look slightly uncomfortable... and at this point they were already tired of being abba.

Oh dear, how uncomfortable they look. Love Abba but not this 'interview'.
I agree it isi painful to watch. Very disappointing.
ftth
awful questions...cavett blew it.
Rubbish
Wow ,talk about an awkward interview,.
Cavett did a terrible job here...
Cavett is a horrible interviewer interviewing the best band ever.
8:28 "it's not funny anymore"..
i'm sorry to say that but the girls' english is horrible!!!
