Some bugs of TC3. 1. Incorrect ESR measurement. Sometimes 2x high, sometimes 10x low. 2. Incorrect frequency (up to 2% low) in all generator modes except "square". 3. Incorrect X scale in fast oscilloscope modes (not present in TC2!). 4. No ability to detect JFETs and depletion mode MOSFETs. There are some other minor bugs, but I don't remember them exactly.
@@MHumanoid Probably the three ADC channels in your device have different characteristics. The firware measures the current when applying different polarities. If these currents are different (and both non-zero), it displays two diodes...
A note on TC2/TC3. The "K"/"A" pins in the testing socket have 35..40 V (continuously in TC2, but only in the test mode in TC3), if you accidentally short them to any other pin, your tester will be fried.
I find the ESR measurements of all these little testers not that reliable. Still they are nice to have since they cost next to nothing and are pretty useful for the other measurements.
@@KeepOnTesting I'd check the resistance of the clip leads supplied ... if they have bad crimps or fake wire or intermittent faults in the clips, that will add well enough resistance to throw off any ESR measurements. Had enough surprises with all kinds of test leads both old and new that I made a habit of testing them on a four wire ohmmeter or wheatstone bridge and actually writing the resistance on the plugs (and tossing out anything even slightly intermittent). .... If you had some "look OK" banana leads let the smoke out of their plugs at 10 or so amperes due to bad welds/soldering/crimps, first making you think you set your meter on fire, you get paranoid :)
These are getting better, faster, and cheaper. I have a few versions, and they stay employed. I'm thinking a dedicated transistor tester with memory for a minimalized datasheet data base. Salvaged transistors are sometimes of better quality than that of online offerings these days, so going through the "bucket of stuff" is worth the dig. These little testers have earned their stay.
You hit the nail on the head! 👍 It's a tragedy how many good components get tossed. As you say, a lot of todays tech is inferior and salvaging those components just makes sense.
I have serveral Fnrsi testers and first looked at the reviews and thery are good, Have a S1 DMM and FN58B USB tester, HM10 internal res tester and the component tester it;s on his way and am interested in the portable scope HM180
The TC2 is interesting but I didn't know about it. It seems to be unobtanium now, but they have a DSO-TC3 which just seems to be 500kHz. $66 Cdn. But you can get a Zoyi 702 for not much more. Progress.
They are all a bit too jank, reminds me of early digital cameras. They do the job, but are very slow, missing options and often inaccurate. Atleast they are not that pricey and gets there! The one with an oscilloscope missed an opportunity to add curve tracer functionality, so close! Would be interesting to see a CHEAP-O handheld oscilloscope showdown!
Hello, there! It seems, the DSO is in Germany only availablle as TC3 with 500MHz bandwith for 65€. The combination of a component tester (btw. developed by a german hobby electronician in a hobby forum for common use as open source project) and a DSO (even with restrictions to basic functions) in a portable Device is very useful. Including a rudimentary function generator makes it actually to the "swiss army knife" for electronics. Only a DMM is lacking. Btw.: As a citizen of the next incoming state of the USA: What has more inpact on you? Only using one currency, or going full circle back from decimal to ancient imperial units? Slava Ukraini!
Swiss army knife.. I like that! 👍 TC2 seems harder to find since the TC3 was released. What a great piece of test gear..Fnirsi is really making some great stuff! 51st state eh..Hehe..Well, us Canadians made it all the way to the Whitehouse back in 1812..'need I say more! Heroiam slava! 🇨🇦 🇺🇦
These look like just polished up versions of the classic "transistor tester"? Wake me up when somebody implements small signal curve tracing at NOT DCA75 prices :)
It's not cheap haha.... After you place a order on ebay or Amazon or temu and pay for shipping and exporting fees and tax it's way over priced actually. But yeah wish I had one.. 😭

I haven't laid my hands on a TC3 as yet but seems they've got alot of bugs to squash..thx for the update.
Users on our local forums regularly report that LCR-P1 and later FNIRSI testers often incorrectly determine the pinouts of bipolar transistors.
Mine detects a 100 ohm resistor as two diodes consistently, it also displays wrong pin orientation for diodes. Latest firmware.

Wow, that's a game changer. Thanks for the tip! 👍

ESR does seem to be a weak point 👉 with many inexpensive testers..

@ssalient To satisfy my own curiosity is there a Chinese brand you like a lot?
They certainly build in a lot of functionality to their testers. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching!

They make some great gear..honestly wowed by their performance and price..what a great addition to the CHEAP-O REALM 👍

Hey Barry... kudos 👏 once again for sending the Fnirsi LCR-P1 my way..it made for a great duo of a review 👍
Been seriously thinking about pulling the trigger on the DSO-TC3. US $50.
If it's anything like the TC2 I'd pull !! 😅
@@KeepOnTesting TC3 has more bugs than TC2. The most annoying one is totally incorrect ESR measurement.
Cool the long intro Darren. You don't need it.
Aww, shucks.Taking away my fun are ya ?😅
@KeepOnTesting
No I just love you previous style that's all. You have plenty of personality anyway (-:

Stay tubed..I'll have a handheld oscilloscope review in a couple weeks..looks promising too 👍

They basically are a revamped version of the cheapo transistor tester. Just much better built.. 👍

Amazon Prime is free shipping. But , yea .. I hear ya.
Is there a tester that detests Trump as much as I do????
😮😊👌👍🏻
😊
Trump up for grabbing some .... FNIRSI!
As Trump would say.."I would give myself an A+" ..FNIRSI gets one too!
Grab 'em by the pussy..... 😂
