  • Once Upon a Time in the West is a 1968 epic spaghetti Western directed by Sergio Leone. It stars Henry Fonda, cast as a villain named Frank, Charles Bronson as his nemesis, Jason Robards as a bandit and Claudia Cardinale as a newly widowed homesteader. The movie follows the beautiful Jill McBain, married in New Orleans a month before, arriving at her new husband's place to find him and his children dead. Also new to the area, a man known only as Harmonica (met by three gunmen whom he soon dispatches). All of the men, those at the McBains and the train depot, wore long coats, a trademark of local bandit Cheyenne and his gang, but it's Frank, who works for a railroad baron, who wants McBain's land and is trying to frame Cheyenne for the killing. Harmonica has his own reasons for seeking out Frank, leading to an epic showdown.

One of favorite spaghetti westerns. Absolutely love how Henry Fonda play an absolutely evil man, which was so far out of character for him.

I was told about this film in1969 but never saw it for the first time until 2 years ago. I have to keep watching it as it is the best western ever made. A great pity that Leone died when he did.

One of my favorite movies. I actually traveled to Spain and saw the house used in the final gunfight.

Good comment and is visible that is not made with an AI as many others.

What I find interesting is the 2nd unit travelling to Utah to film the Monument Valley scenes which were reduced to a minimum in the final cut. That must have been a costly trip unless Leone used a contractor out of LA to do the scenes and only had to send Claudia over to do them. One of my favorite soundtracks.

So the death happened at a hotel, not on set. I fell for the clickbait title. Nice job dude.

I was told that Leone wanted some big stars to be the ones at the train station. Clint Eastwood was supposed to be one. It was supposed to shock the audience when they're gunned down.

He wanted Eastwood, Lee VanCleef, and Eli Wallach. That would have been incredible.

That was very interesting. I really enjoy finding new (To me) correlations like that, it gives you a more accurate picture of what was going on.

Watch an old episode of Wanted Dead or Alive sometime and you will cringe at what a truly BAD actor McQueen was. He never got along with other actors, because he thought he should get more screen time than anyone else. I've never understood his popularity.

Le Mans was the only movie he was passionate about. And what did he have, maybe a page of lines? I also thought The Great Escape was a good role cast for him. But I agree, he was an arrogant SOB!

Can´t deny his screen presence. Magic.
