I was working in the raf recruiting tent for this air show. It was one of the most fun weeks of my career. It’s sad that these kind of events have been sidelined over recent years. I guess it just became an extravagance we could no longer afford.
This machine is well on it's way to having a 100 year legacy. There is nothing out there that can do what it does. Very proud my Uncle Bobby flew one in Vietnam.
I have seen this awesome machine at another airshow & I can honestly say my jaw dropped,I couldn't believe a machine of this size could do such manoeuvres... these pilots & crew have nerves of steel.
It is by a significant margin, if you look at the apache with all that drag being created by the appendages hanging off it and with the weight of the weapons it carries and it quite literally has the aerodynamics of a brick, then look at the Chinook it's significantly aerodynamically cleaner and smoother, it's got two very powerful turboshaft engines and the tandem rotor configuration means that because they're rotating in opposite directions they're devoted to lift and not having power bled off for a smaller anti torque rotor and because you have advancing and retreating blades on each side instead of one you start cancelling or evening out the more complex aerodynamic considerations that affect the single main rotor machine's top speed but of course the penalty the Chinook pays is in the mechanical complexity of all of the interconnecting shafts and gearboxes that keeps the rotors intermeshing or synchronized and able to continue flight in the event of one engine failing
+sexysniper232 Good point. I'll have to think about that. Getting a balance between detail and the wider dynamic. Thanks for taking time to comment. All the best.
Yeah ive flew in the back of one of these a few times in Afghan, dropped off at the patrol base flying low an fast then they swing in round rapid an land, scary but amazing

Omg the pilot throws it about like a toy😮just goes to show how they know their craft so well. I loved that video ❤️ thankyou for sharing the footage 👍

I remember a similar display at East Fortune, probably around 2010. Seeing them stand it near vertical on its nose was a sight to behold.
Man standing in the doorway as its doing those stunts. Amazing
I spent 20 years in chinooks in the US Army, but no one flies the chinook like the RAF.
Cheers! Thanks for commenting.
Think about being that crew chief in the back trying to hang on 😂
For as big as it is, it's surprisingly agile.
Yes, an incredible machine. Not forgetting the skill of the pilot. Thanks for commenting.
thats what she said
@@brianh5609 You beat me to it
I love when these pass by you cam tell right away by the sound it's so awesome
Thanks. It was a spectacular display.
Cool video. Amazing how nimble this big bird is.
The enormous helicopter was thinking, You want me to do what? That was not in the job description!
0:14 I would not wanna be in the back 😂😂
It’s a war horse - doesn’t have to be pretty - but a welcome sight and sound wherever it goes to help❤️
I did not know this chopper can fly like that !
Fighter jets- we are best
Chinook - hold my engine oil
It looks more like a submarine than an aircraft.
The fastest, highest flying, heaviest carrying rotary winged aircraft in the US army arsenal. Miss flying in it.
We all miss fixing the hydraulic leaks and cutting the tree tops at 180 MPH.
Nothing like this machine in the world.
Damm i didn't knew this could be done
I've read somewhere that the Chinook is actually faster than the Apache...?

WOW. I would not want to be a passenger on that!
ahahaha 😂
You would if you had been shot twice and it showed up as a field hospital with 0- blood, a fully equipped e-room, and staff.
@@KITLEVEY I think you are missing the point.....
How though, that thing is 15 tons, and f16 is 9 tons. Scratching my head trying to understand how it can pirouette
Bloody good pilot ...😎
How cool.
Definitely a "white knuckle ride"!
Belle démo, bien filmée
Quite incredible really!
It's a good video but would have been better if you filmed the entire display rather than having all of those cuts in it
balls of steel.
:)nice vid, but it woulda been cool to see those maneuvers in relation to the ground :(

Great Arma 3 combat landing!
Reporting news never get you caught up now
"I'll tell you the time now"
He's flying this like a mosquito
ALOT OF THESE MANOUVERS HAD BEEN HONED IN WAR. ESPECIALLY IN AFGANISTAN
Yeah ive flew in the back of one of these a few times in Afghan, dropped off at the patrol base flying low an fast then they swing in round rapid an land, scary but amazing
*MEANWHILE* in the UK
Seems safe...
almost silent
The Chinook is a very impressive machine, but it's plane ugly compared to the CH-46 Sea Knight lol
How cool.
