i think the fans being much younger these days is a factor. I’m not saying everyone is, but a lot of fans around 11-17ish tends to be more immature and would really hate if their “oppa” even dare to look at another female’s eyes unlike before on older kpop generations where there are more fans who are not minors and internet was still limited so only people with jobs can watch or like got to the events or concerts etc or the minors are being monitored by parents as well
