I'd recommend the title track of DP Mark 2's "second reunion" album "The Battle Rages On" from 1993 and/or "Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming" from the Morse-Line-Up's first album "purpendicular" from 1996, for a change ...
Yes, a prog classic from 1968, every member of the band exceptional and Jon Lord organ percussion with Paice on drums is fantastic ….and then there is Blackmore ..great tune
Thanks so much, Graham for reminding me of "When a Blind Man Cries". Such a great song. The second song, just as good. Great reaction, L33. We need more DP. Blessings all. Peace
When A Blind Man Cries is Ian Gillans favourite Deep Purple song and they still perform it today. Saw them this year playing it and Ian's singing on this one always was a highlight of every show.
When A Blind Man Cries is such a fantastic song. Ian's vocals are great and Ritchie's guitar tone is so good, it weeps and fits with the mood of the song.
I absolutely adore Blackmore's solo in Place in Line. One of my faves of his. Gives me goosebumps. It just proves he could have done a fantastic blues album. When he busts into those Chuck Berry riffs I'm like hell yeah!
You might enjoy this, basically when Blackmore stops by a pub and plays with an old friend … m.ruclips.net/video/2224dHABHTc/видео.html&pp=ygUvQmxhY2ttb3JlIGFtZXJpY2FuIGJsdWVzIHN0YW5kYXJkIGphY2tpZSBseW5kb24%3D
Trivia - don’t forget they did two full live orchestra concerts with albums back then as well….. 1969 - Concerto for Group and Orchestra 1970 - Gemini Suite
@ Actually it was done in both live events in 1969 and 1970 …. it is amazing when you consider the amount of material and projects by MkII and individual members from 1969 to 1973
What I read back in the day in the 70s was Blackmore did not think the tune was a good fit for the album … The rock media is terrible to repeat the same quote over and over and then out of context ….the tune would have a much better fit on Who Do We Think We Are?
Blackmore wanted an out and out heavy rock album, exciting and energetic. Since "When a blind man cries" is neither of those, Blackmore didn't want it on the album. I understand his reasoning but it's a great song and he plays some taste guitar on it.
I wish you had of notified me on this list Lee. You're gonna love Place in line!!! Huge blues riff. And what a ballad Blind man is. is there any better?
Maybe you should try some of the new songs as a change. In 2024 the released ther 23rd album with original material and it was nr. 3 on the worldwide download charts. I recommend the official video to "Lazy Sod" and "A Bit On The Side". They still have Gillan, Glover and Paice in the band, Don Airey on keyboards, who replaced Jon Lord in 2002, and they still rock as hell. And they new guitar player is fantastic.
The live video of When A Blind Man Cries really takes it up a notch. Even without Richie Blackmore. Ian’s vocals are amazing with a stunning 1 1/2 octave jump at one point. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Highly recommend back to back - Flight of the Rat from In Rock followed by Fools from Fireball … and Blackmore as one example has such a huge catalogue of material from 1962 to the present plus Jon Lord’s catalogue from the early 60s up to his death is huge as well …
When A Blind Man Cries is actually about the recording of Machine Head, so it's a bit melodramatic lyrics from Gillan :-) . And it would have been on the album if Ritchie had approved, but he didn't like it. The same goes for Place In Line.
And Blackmore didn't even like When a Blind Man Cries. Wow. When they recorded Who do we think we are they weren't getting along and weren't in the studio at the same time, thanks to management and the record company making them get back in the studio after the success of Machine Head. It's a really good album and you need to do more from it. Peace
When a blind man cries was not on the original Machine Head. I've had Who Do You Think We Are for many years, but , depending on my mood to which one is my favorite, I would still say, Made In Japan!! Definitely!!
Need a different taste of Purple, give listen to Painted Horse you will not be disappointed m.ruclips.net/video/Vc_9PHHrd2k/видео.html&pp=ygUZRGVlcCBwdXJwbGUgcGFpbnRlZCBob3JzZQ%3D%3D
What tracks by Deep Purple should I check out next? I didn't know they had sides to them like this! I would love to hear some more..
The Shield from The Book of Taliesyn
Fireball is also a great album.

Definitely Fireball the tune is a drummers tune ….tge beginnings of thrash and/speed metal …
Now I remember why I liked DP so much! Thanks for the reminder!💜
That second song was unexpected. I really liked that😊
Anyone"s Daughter from Fireball is a country style song you would never expect to hear from a hard rock band!
Omg, Deep Purple drops into my soul like born there.
I caught myself enjoying this Deep Purple.
Thank you Graham for some great tracks from a great band

Damn it all, how could I forget "When a blind man cries" ? It reminds me of my youth. Thanks, Lee. I needed this today.
I know, right? Old timer disease for me, lol

My favorite Purple studio album - WDWTWA

❤yes, I remember watching seperate sequences for Ian Gillian and Jon Lord, they were sooooo good!! I believe it was the '69, wasn't it??
@ Actually it was done in both live events in 1969 and 1970 ….

Mr11 is my favourite line up but Burn is my favourite album it’s just amazing
Mary Long From the album WDWTWA is a really fun song to listen to.
Try the album “Burn”. Gillan and Glover are gone, replaced by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes. Great album from front to back.
voice pierces the veil and we follow 💕🎸💕🥁💕🎹🥰
Wow 👌 that was great.
For some reason, Blackmore didn't want WABMC on the Machine Head album, whereas Gillan did. They were always arguing.
What I read back in the day in the 70s was Blackmore did not think the tune was a good fit for the album …

Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘
+ Floyd
Purple always deliver.

"Place in line" for sure
My favourite DP album is Fireball because it is the most versatile one.
One of the big three! Trinities of British Rock!
Checkout Demons Eye if you have missed it!
Fabulous reactions Mon Ami

My woman is OK yo!
My late wife’s force ghost will not let me live that down. Brand X is calling you.

✌🏼😎🇺🇸
THe entire Burn album is a killer,bro...first one with David Coverdale (Whitesnake) ad Glenn Hughes. Cheers, T

RAT BAT BLUES… NO ONE CAME…. FIREBALL… STORMBRINGER… PERFECT STRANGERS .. ALL GREAT TUNES … ROCK ON 👊🖖
Blind Man and The Rain Song on the same day? Hmmm.
IP stil the best swing drummer around
Who Do We Think We Are is a much maligned but seriously underrated album, never understood the hate to be honest, a great album.

Lee-- check out Smooth Dancer and Rat Bat Blue from this album- their 4th/last one with this line-up. Both are bangers... T
Said it before, I’ll say it again. Zeppelin get all the attention, but these guys would bury them alive.
You would love Gillan’s performance in Gethsemane from the Jesus Christ superstar album..
He started the album but hasn’t gotten back to it for a long time.
Rat bat blue

Metallica does a great cover of When a blind man cries. Well worth checking out.
Metallica have made a nice cover of When a Blind Man Cries!
