OG HERE: Just to let you know, BAS is a professional musician/teacher by trade. He plays a multitude of instruments, including the piano, trumpet, and sax. He also has written songs in the past. He stated in an interview that he played jazz piano aboard a cruise ship for several years. This rap thing would be EASY for him! That is why I think that his flow is so smooth. He already understands rhythm, timing, cadence, and flow. I used to rap a bit in the late 80s to early 90's. Being almost 60, I STILL listen to what is going on in the genre. My lyrics would actually be BETTER NOW because of years of life, learning, and maturity. From what I am hearing, even if they are not writing all their bars, they have a HUGE input in what goes into a song. I can definitely see that with Pete. I don't think that anyone is going to tell him what to say!
I'm always perplexed as to why people think they don't write their own bars. These dudes have 50 years more language skills than most reacting to them, and they come from the shakespearean epicenter of the world. Combine that with cockney rgyming slang, and it a perfect recipe for top notch BARS!
Yeah. An English education from the past is going to be MUCH better!!!! They were allowed to smack dem kids when they acted stupid. Learn or else you catch those hands, lol. Lotsa runnin the streets, lotsa women, etc. No substitute for real life experiences.
Yeah theres this conspiracy of a group pushing the older rappers as a novelty, Pete and Bas didnt even knew each other until they started in the rap game i remember one of them saying that
I think they wrote their bars at get their Grandsons to tell them the current lingo just as a check. Also wouldn't be supprides if they bias some hard men in the day.
@Threaldaveoss the one guy was brought up around bareknuckle fighting, his dad ran an underground fighting ring, and the other one was introduced to the kray twins. You don't get introduced to the krays because you're a stand up guy 😅
Shattap 😂....... these guys are better than alot of rappers out there now . They write their own with the help of their grandchildren . Great reaction ❤
Bro they are NICE on the mic. Their writing and mic skills are better than ANYONE in rap right now AND they go HARDER than anyone in rap. You don't get THAT GOOD on the mic if you don't write your own sh*t. WHAT is not to buy? You can go back and watch them from jump street they've been around for years. So far until they give me a reason to doubt them, THEY'RE LEGIT. I suspect coming to America for a tour SOON
Def thought it was a novelty at first, but they've just kept getting better. The Nephews help write the bars but the deep, gravelly voices just land so well ❤
I was trying to work out what looked different today 😂, I’m so slow. I love watching your reactions, I think you have to be my no 1 favourite at this point, such a good vibe
Bricktop is terrified of Pete and Bas. Finally someone referenced SNATCH. My favorite film. In longthorne shotgun Pete says about a dead body, "I'm takin"em home cause the pigs need feedin" legendary
Me and my partner recently watched their song with Stepz and both of us think we would be absolutely embarrassed if that was our performance with Pete and Bas. On the same track. P&B are leagues above and it's very obvious. No matter what the deal is, if it was for a laugh and someone else writes for them or if they write themselves (which I don't see why people think is impossible since it's 2 old geezers writing some poetry), they are great. It sounds great. I'm always moving when we have them on.
Bas was a music teacher and pete was a postman,,they got into it through there grandchildren always putting rap on in there cars,,, they do write the songs but there grandchildren help with young slag words. Plenty of interviews with them..
They actually write everything themselves. They ask their grandkids what the latest lingo and slang is, but yeah, they write their own. And im not sure if they still do, but one of their grandkids used to make the beats for them 🤘
@@TheAppleCap Get the feeling it's a full on collab between Pete, Bas, Dex and 91shots - the two grandkids do a LOT more than just 'help out', but the two fellas also aren't just actors, they've got a genuine system running, and a lot of the other stuff (Northern boys, etc) is then built around and added to the basic. Pretty sure they tried to create a similar thing stateside when they saw just how well it worked, in UK but the problem was they couldn't get the secret sauce which is simply the genuine vocal talent of Pete & Bas - so the truth is it's neither completely organic, nor completely synthetic - and of course the key is it's not just oldies dropping modern slang for novelty - a lot of the slang/narrative is older, much older, and must be coming from Pete and Bas themselves.
The reaction videos are so fun and entertaining. I've been sharing their videos at work and people are saying to me, "Dale, you listen to this stuff?". Well, heck yes. I'm from the U.K. but have lived in Detroit most of my life. I'm almost 62 so I figure I've got 10 more years of practice before I can even approach this. :) Cheers guys!
You can hear them right up next to P Money and Jaykea, Azza and Grima in the remix of Vibe Chemistry's - Baddest. And they not only have more lines than anyone, they body the rest of the rappers. Yeah, they can stand up to whoever is put against them.
Found the Channel via your Ren Reactions. Also love Pete & Bas... Other songs of theirs that are worth a react - Plugged in with Fumez, Stepped into the Building, Mr Worldwide
It's time like these that remind me that the Anglo, Saxton, and Celtic tribes of the British Isles have bardic rhyming traditions that date back thousands of years... and counting apparently.
Pete and Bas rap ALOT better than them, so my guess is that those two make sure Pete and Bas are up on any and all modern slang... I don't think anyone is ghostwriting at all, I think Pete and Bas are writing the content and the rhyme schemes and their grandkids most likely give suggestions and punch up the writing with modern vernacular or terms that wouldn't be on a 70 year old man's radar. The delivery is consistently TOO GOOD for these guys to have ghostwriting going on, NOBODY would give away all those incredible bars year after year!
if yall listen to golf FT norman pain, they tell their stories from the older years in those bars. just gotta pay attention to the details. its DOPE AF
4:08 - On the Plugged in with Fumez season finale cypher they bodied everyone but Suspect. Gave me immense respect for Suspect's craft that he could keep up.
Check out some of their finger bling in earlier videos 'Lightwork Freestyle' Some of them are FreeMason rings. Make of that what you will. Great remix.
Nah, man. The listed writers are "Pete & Bas". As in the name of the group, note Pete whatever and Basil whatever. The 'group name' hides the writing input of their closest collaborators, their grandkids Dex and 91. But who cares, it works.
Dude Brits got original English obviously that's why we don't get half of the bars but with a good ears and subtitles dude's kill it doesn't matter if they write how many artists wtite for demselves they kill they deliver on point
@@deanosaur808 I don't think he really has needed to rap for a while. And yea maybe he will retire from making records and touring but I doubt he is gonna stop rapping.
Not just good - but entertaining and with topics that are worth listening to. There are plenty of people who write, but you see them and their delivery is lacklustre. Also I looked at a collab of industry rappers in the US - it was tedious - just well shot with a lot of scantily dressed women - and just the same old story. The independent artists in the US have far more to say - Dex, Krizz Kalico Anyone who was East End London in the 50s and 60s would know the big gangs - for heavens sake, the late actress Barbara Windsor did. there is a lot of history You should see clips of their live shows - in Manchester Baz jumped down off the stage - and got back up pretty niftily!
Youuuu need to check out shuffle and worldwide if you ain't listened to older stuff... really good tunes boyzzzzzz . Ooooohhh and if u ain't heard the cyphers 1 and 2 you need to react some more old dudes having ago not just Pete and bas 😆😆😆

Why do you guys continually disrespect these men. They write all there own bars. There grandkids help with the terminology.I said it before, they have so much life experience they use terminology from 6 different decades.
@timmokoo5679 I have been following them for years. A 64-year-old Londoner who knows my music and the hood know they did start writing their own lyrics. You must remember they were young, and the music you listened to whilst your young raving years still stays with you.
@deanosaur808 They were once young men who obviously listened to Rap. Yes, they may be old and writing their own lyrics. Why not ? Remember, 80s 90s Rap was big in London, they were loving it. 💙 Google them, and get the right answers. They write their own lyrics
Pete - "you can try and chalk line this"
Bas - "you aint gonna chalk line sh*t"
Bro got his back underrated bars
