And he is playing a mentally ill character too , but in a very subtle way. He character is so damaged that he has had to become emotionally subdued to the point where he can't make moral choices. He compensates by picking a moral person and following their lead. Naomi fills this role for him.
I've never gotten if he's supposed to be kinda dumb in the show or if his acting wasn't great in the frist couple seasons. He is so different out of character
I hope Bezos did some nudging on the technical advice. The trailer with the landing, was totally a New Shepherd nod. It would be really cool to see more realism, that being what attracted people to it in the first place.

Why is three seasons the max for shows nowadays? So many good shows gets canceled after 3. I just streamed the seasons of the Expanse on Prime. I’m thrilled this show was renewed. It’s great!

She probably won't see too much screen time since in book four, Avaserala is mostly absent from the main plotline. However she plays a far more prominent role in the subsequent books.
This show feels more relatable than Star Trek/Star Wars, because the characters don’t need to look like Spock or Yoda to be the best SciFi. Yes there were protomolecule-human hybrids, but you can see how everything points back to people - abuse of power and greedy ambitions. It also brings up real issues of division among humanity. I have been waiting for a better sci-fi show since Battle Star Galactica and I am just amazed with the Expanse and hope for it to continue on! Rewatching all the episodes from season 1 while waiting for the weekly episodes for season 5. Worth the wait!
Yes I am sure it has been stated in the comments below perhaps but I must restate it here. just think of what the fans of firefly could have done if Netflix and Amazon and other streaming services have been as strong then as they are now. We could've at least gotten another two or three seasons of firefly and with Josh Whedon directing / writing those would've been awesome box sets to have today.

The Expanse is today’s BSG. No other mainstream sci-fi out there comes close.

In the books, there is a disagreement about what the planet should be called. Earthers call it New Terra, and Belters / squatters call it Illus.
Nothing to spoil since both names are mentioned in the opening chapters. I just think Shohreh was having a little fun being in character.
