Omg thank you so much for this information! I just freaked out when I found this in my fiddle leaf fig. Your bit about the symbiotic eco system made me feel warm and fuzzy...like my new yellow friends.
Both of my dieffenbachias had mushrooms coming out of the drainage holes. When I pulled them out of the pots the whole bottom 3 inches of each rootball was a whole network of mushrooms and fibers. I left them and they have done fine. I do smell mushroom when I water them :)
So I had a Janet Craig plant where the leaves continuously kept blackening. I tried relocating it, raising it, lowering it - nothing seemed to help. Eventually I repotted it into new, fresh soil to which I fortified with earthworm castings. I’m currently experiencing these mushrooms growing out of the drainage holes in the new pot. I’ve removed them 2-3 times BUT the plant is thriving and putting out new growth more than ever now. I’m still debating on whether to get rid of them because the plant is absolutely thriving
As a side note.... I love your necklace. It is very stunning... The fungus has never bothered me... Just another plant so to speak. Sometimes when using wood chips as mulch out in the yard I pray they have been inoculated with morel spore.
Thank you so much for this info Pam! I had yellow mushrooms on my hoya last summer and they totally grossed me out! Good to know I have nothing to worry about
Good info! Moved here to Mississippi,( very hot and humid....Mississippi, not me!), a fewyears ago, the flora and fauna is ALOT different than anything in Denver, and the bugs, they're different too...anyway, this year I've noticed these penile shaped, BRIGHT yellow mushrooms growing in my outdoor potted plants...I was seriously concerned! But hearing that it just indicates a healthy ecosystem sets my mind at ease, big-time! They're kind of psychedelic looking, so didn't want to remove them anyway, but sounds like they might actually be good for the draceana palms they're growing around, so I'm gonna leave them there! Thank you!

My potted mandarin tree got this recently, and I was so excited to see it! With the exception of those who have toddlers or dogs that eat anything, I don't understand why anyone would want to get rid of it... It's a gorgeous mushroom, it's interesting to watch, and is super beneficial to the plant. I actually harvested some caps and tapped them over my other plants in hopes of getting some other colonies going.
Blew the top of my skull of when I first learned that!! Plants are so amazing, if more people understood how much they know and do I think we’d have a much greener world.
So I bought a succulent last year, that had it.. when I went to repot it.. saw all those fungi. Freak out & return/exchanged it cuz I didn't know what it was. So.. I learn something new today! Thx pam!! 😊👍
Hmmm... I would be worried about rot if you’re seeing that with cacti just because the fungi needs moisture that a cactus might not appreciate but it’s entirely possible it’s just the soil mix you used and your cacti will be fine. I’d be really careful with watering and just scrape off the fungi. I hope your cactus is ok!!
I’ve just found little white mushrooms growing in my houseplant soil. I repotted these plants around a week ago with a organic compost and peat mix. The soil hasn’t really dried out much so I’m beginning to think the mix is a bit too dense and there’s not enough airflow. Not sure if I should repot again and mix some sand through so it’s not moist for as long. This was informative thank you! I might just pick the mushrooms out for the time being
You could mix the sand into the top few inches instead of repotting too, that should take care of that upper layer staying too wet and cut down on the fungi growth. I’ve heard you can water with hydrogen peroxide but I don’t know how or if you dilute it, that’s an experiment I need to do! I’ve found simply cutting back on watering or bottom water knocks this issue down without much effort too! Good luck!
1 tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide for ever 1 cup of water is what I water my plants with right now that seems to help them stay happy and healthy because I accidentally bought soil that kept my plants wet for wayyy to long even if i didnt water them for a month, it helps quite a bit, BUT it killed my cacti (ive never had goodluck with them tho, and i have over 50 different kinds of plants lol) so take it with a grain of salt❤
Hello 10x for the video, but i watched your video after i got rid off the fungus. It had grown in my Dracaena and i repotted it. I rinsed the roots and washed my teracota pot. But now my plant(it is 3 plants in this pot)seems not to like it i lose leaves and it looks droopy and I don't know if i should put it in water to propagate it, that means chopping them off, or just to leav it be hooping for the best that it will recover. Really in a dilema.
Hi Giovanni! Sounds like your plant is just a bit shocked, which is pretty normal. You could pop it in water to recover, that usually works well, but I’m betting it will recover without that effort. How long since you repotted it?
Last year i repotted all of my house plants. My dreacena plant is really old i think it is 6years old now ,it is really pretentious and loves just one spot in my house. I had to repot it last year because it needed a bigger pot, it loved the new pot made new growth. I repotted it last week after I discovered the fungus, my plant is 1m long and i never had lots one leaf for 2 years so I'm worried. I lost 10 leafs in 1 week. I will give it one more week. I still see that i will lose more leafs. I have many plants none of them have any problems with fungus or bugs although I used same soil.
Ooooohhhhh my god. Thank you for this video! I thought I had the worlds worst case of fungus gnats! I have changed the soil in almost a dozen plants this month cause this just started popping up out of nowhere. It has just stayed in the mycelium stage, it hasn't popped out any fruits yet, so I really thought they were weird nasty yellow fungus gnat eggs or something. I am done changing the soil, I'm gonna watch my watering and leave the damn plants alone. 😂😂😂😂
Also, I'm of the understanding that breathing the fungus spores isn't great for you. I've been battling fungus for 6 months. Copper fungicide is how I've gotten rid of it, probably not for good though. I realized mine was because I was using a fish fertilizer. When I switched to synthetic, the fungii problem drastically decreased.
I definitely wouldn’t snort it! It still freaks me out to breathe when I mess with it no matter what the books and internerd say! I need to pick up some copper spray... think my begonias are looking spotty 😩 Thanks for watching Jordan!
