I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and it’s pretty much on its last legs after 5 years of heavy use. I’ll be upgrading next week to the 16 pro max but that’ll be used until it’s on it’s last legs. Buying a new phone every year is crazy no matter what phone company you use.

You don’t have to buy every new model, but the jump from my iPhone 10 to my brothers 14 is actually insane. The camera and the recording jump is significant. The 16 will also have satellite SOS capabilities with video satellite. That might not be important to some people, and I have a Garmin, but I can already see myself documenting a trek days deep into the wilderness with just my dang phone and I am excited. I’m also typing this on my iPad Pro which has more computing power than my 10 year old MacBook Pro - which is still going strong and I plan to use it for years to come. BTW, the Ai on the 16 will improve accessibility features. If you know, you know. Also, the new AirPods has the capability to function as hearing aids in conjunction with the phone. No idea if they work well, but when a major company actually gives a shit about accessibility, you have to see where they take it. If you are familiar with disabilities and especially hearing aids, you already know. I sound like an Apple spokesperson. But Apple doesn’t want everyone to be like me, with a pre-used iPhone 10, a decade old laptop and only one purchase in the last 5 years.

No base-level consumer is gonna care, but apple was kinda of crazy for the iPhone 16. The iPhone 15 used the A16 Bionic, the same chip used in the 14 Pro, and this is what apple does. In 10 years I’ve owned 3 iPhones. I got an iPhone 5c for my 18th birthday and had it for 4 years. Then used my sister’s old 6s for a couple years, before finally “treating myself” to an iPhone 11 almost 5 years ago. I don’t really want to upgrade, but the battery is getting awful. :(

You don’t have to buy every new model, but the jump from my iPhone 10 to my brothers 14 is actually insane. The camera and the recording jump is significant. The 16 will also have satellite SOS capabilities with video satellite. That might not be important to some people, and I have a Garmin, but I can already see myself documenting a trek days deep into the wilderness with just my dang phone and I am excited. I’m also typing this on my iPad Pro which has more computing power than my 10 year old MacBook Pro - which is still going strong and I plan to use it for years to come. BTW, the Ai on the 16 will improve accessibility features. If you know, you know. Also, the new AirPods has the capability to function as hearing aids in conjunction with the phone. No idea if they work well, but when a major company actually gives a shit about accessibility, you have to see where they take it. If you are familiar with disabilities and especially hearing aids, you already know.

No base-level consumer is gonna care, but apple was kinda of crazy for the iPhone 16. The iPhone 15 used the A16 Bionic, the same chip used in the 14 Pro, and this is what apple does. They use the chips from their pro models and put it in the next generation base models. But this time, they put their latest chip in the 16. Huge props to apple for that.

In 10 years I’ve owned 3 iPhones. I got an iPhone 5c for my 18th birthday and had it for 4 years.
Then used my sister’s old 6s for a couple years, before finally “treating myself” to an iPhone 11 almost 5 years ago.
I don’t really want to upgrade, but the battery is getting awful. :(
