Awesome video this is actually awesome and giving me inspiration! I went out west and brought back in 87 XL 600R. The guy I got it from had bought it not realizing it was a desert race bike so the motor was basically worn out. He went ahead a great deal of expense to basically do what you're doing and it just became too big of a pain in the ass for him after he got the motor back. It has now sat for 20 years.. so I have a fresh motor but everything else is smoked getting parts for that thing has been an not fun . I'm taking a break . . watching this video as I'm assembling that dual carb setup because that is it has its own set of issues trying to jet it for the mods the engine builder did
I had stock internal gearing with 15/43 and some 17's, and riding street, my thrust washers shredded. Full rebuild. Thrust washer shavings tattered up the oil pumps rotors. So new rod and new oil pump rotors, a 100mm 11:1 wiseco, and now she's 15/45 been running fine over ten years. All street . Rotella T6 is my oil. I have an fcrmx41 also. HUGE game changer, an accelerator pump carb.
Just got mine back 445$ with piston Over bore /hone Ring fitting Gaskets Those pistons are almost 200$ It costs but you should expect that in today’s world
Man I'm still laughing from that jump jr did on that street bike. I bought a Honda silver wing for $50 one time, took all the fairing off, that old junk would haul ass to 100...lol
@@ekspatriat valid questions and I’m not too sure. Some of metal has come from the cylinder walls of course but I have not split the cases yet to see if there is additional damage hiding. Need to get around to finishing this project.
I just don’t understand how ignorant people are. An oil change every hard ride takes 15 minutes. Cleaning an air filter 10 minutes. Maintenance on these 4 strokes is so easy.
The piston was sand blasted clean
WOW! Never seen an XR600R that trashed!
That's a lot of smoke homie. You can do it. Your dad loves you!

Glad they went away from the dual carb nonsense of mid eighties.
Start smoke=Valve seals. The pistón is good. I have the same problem in nx650
His smoke was consistent while running. Pointing to rings. The valve seals usually only smoke at startup as they lose tension.
"were exploring :) SHIT!!! :/ " sounds like every xr motor ive ever opened
Don't miss out on putting the NX fifth gear in...! 🤘
I’ve never heard of this but just researched it. Great idea. Big thanks for the info!
And a hookup on ASV Levers is 20% off code, EZ20ASV. Is posting this not allowed? We're not allowed to save money, RUclips?
Oh, what wasn't allowed was I put the website I got the nx 5th from. It's only available through Japan.

Combustion chamber almost looks... Sandblasted!
That sand what look at the cause of it them valves was strving for fuel the dirt low oil pressure
The piston is brighter than my future
No way brother! You, (just like this piston) are going to do great things in the future! Chin up champ.
@@UncouthedChurlishness thank you brother.. it means alot..
I need to see rockers in top head covers
I’ll get you in the next video. Please subscribe
Just got mine back
445$ with piston

Ring fitting
Gaskets

Did you use the old head bolts or buy new ones from Honda?
That intro was a tear jerker.
Thanks for the upload! Guess who has a little cool blue smoke and a top end leak?
@@UncouthedChurlishness Nothing is like OEM hardware. I've never replaced them though.
hell yea dude nice video
Wiseco used to make a pretty XR600 piston.
really nice
How many discs are you running in that supertrapp?

🙌
Valve seals are probably shot
I agree.
I need updates I have the same exact bike but I want to build it for cross country
If you are going 1 oversize what is the piston 'machining' you talk about? And where has all that metal in the oil come from?
@@ekspatriat valid questions and I’m not too sure. Some of metal has come from the cylinder walls of course but I have not split the cases yet to see if there is additional damage hiding. Need to get around to finishing this project.
Where's the completed re-assemble

Why not go to Honda and buy an oversized piston to match the bore job? Machine shop will bore to match the new oversized piston.
This engine runs lean
Is this the same on a 1985 xr600r
Besides having a dual intake port and the decompression cover, exactly the same.
@@orangeplaneteer Yeah,dual carb,drum rear brake,17 inch rear rim I believe.
Why the CRINGE music!! I’d rather hear you talk about what you’re doing. I couldn’t even watch it
Well now you hurt my feelings.
