Actually, that's not a bad idea. Each person gets a certain amount of money to spend like when you book a cruise through a travel agent. It would have fit well with the theme that it's a cruise.

Those who don't get the joke, in Godfather III, Michael Corleone is having a "sit down" with relatives over a mass shooting at a casino. He finds out a rival family did it because some refused to strike a deal with them so they orchestrated the massacre. Michael is struggling to make sure his family business is legitimate, which is when he says the famous line.
PS: forgot to add, in a nice stroke of irony, Michael is hit by a brutal heart attack and has to be rushed to the ER. His nephew (brilliantly played by Andy Garcia) is furious and takes revenge on the mob boss (Joe Mantegna) who ordered the massacre.
These are really rare! Merchandise for a niche Star Wars attraction that was only open a year! In ten years, this stuff will be worth exactly nothing-dollars and no cents!
The rarity of the items will make them valuable. Even if people in Florida don't want it, there's plenty of people around the world who weren't able to make it who would want at least a piece of it. But it's hard to say if it will ever be worth what it was sold for on the Starcruiser. Disney stuff on the whole does tend to have a good resale value. And I would wonder if any of it will be available after Christmas.

I doubt Disney itself had anything to do with the merch going to the outlets. It was probably whatever business company that supplies merch for all of the parks just gathered it up and treated it like it does all merch that passes its expiration date. To those companies merch is merch, what may be on it means nothing.
I highly doubt that anything with the Disney label from the parks and resorts end up anywhere else besides its own outlet stores. Disney still has to make its money on their merch before a salvage shop or non-Disney outlet can sell said items. Even their used plates, furnishings, and decor are up for sale before getting destroyed and written-off. Even used and broken passenger vehicles from their rides get put into auctions and I think that Disney still makes money from those transactions somehow. John Stamos even has a passenger vehicle and an older Disneyland sign (the huge one seen at the main entrance of Disneyland) in his possession. Yet, I think that Disney made money from an outdated sign that they replaced with one with updated technology and newer materials to keep looking fresh. It wasn’t just trash, it was in an auction.
I think real immersion and reasonable prices probably are at odds with each other. Just look at how unaffordable the Disney properties have become. They haven't been affordable in my lifetime, but now they're stupid expensive.

The worse thing for me about the Galactic starcruiser was having a immersive hotel themed to starwars was not a bad idea but the hotel we got was basically a travel lodge with a light generic spaceship theme.
Really curious if you travelled aboard? If you asked passengers who actually went on a voyage then the vast majority would disagree with “light generic spaceship theme.” The theming was incredibly detailed, the cast and crew made it feel 100% authentic Star Wars, and calling it a hotel doesn’t even begin to describe the true experience. The reality is that for 2.5 days you feel like you are on a spaceship living out an adventure in the Star Wars universe. At least that was my experience and the experience of thousands of others who went on a cruise.

My guess is Disney is dumping this stuff as cheaply and quickly as possible, so they didn't want to devote resources toward contact the previous guests. With the current state of the company, they are doing everything to distance themselves from their string of bad business decisions.

Truthfully, I'm kind of surprised that they didn't do something like this with a cruise ship rather than just a hotel. I mean make the entire ship look something like a star cruiser that lands in the water on a planet. Maybe do something like Royal Caribbean does with the park areas in the center of the ship. Then each day they "land" at another tropical "planet" port for passengers to enjoy before they get back on board to continue their star cruise adventure. Then the last day gets them back to port and they're "shuttled" to Disney World and let out directly into the Star Wars area.
Disney created a cheap Star Wars knockoff in the late 70’s. It was awful All the new Disney “Star Wars” content just feels like it’s as shittily cared about and executed as the Black Hole movie was. Essentially, it feels like Disney is just making “the black hole” content and branding it as Star Wars. Rogue One and parts of Mandalorian are the only things they’ve made that feel close to George Lucas’s universe.

With how cringey everything is these days, it's pretty apparent that for these types of people, the only thing that embarrasses them is being wrong. So yeah they'll lose money before they admit they are wrong. Plus they won't give up an opportunity to "educate" normal people and pretend they are better than everyone. That is what they thrive on. The only thing that would have come of setting the Starcuiser in the OT would have been a just relative handful more guests, not enough to have a de a difference, It might extended its life aby a few months but at the price they were charging, it was just too much for the average fan to afford. Sure, the OT might have generated more interest, and more fans might have Benn interested and started saving up, but it still would have been closed by the time most fans had saved even a quarter o the price. The other thing to consider in terms of the setting is, like it or not, the ST is the future of Star Wars. To a lot of little kids growing up right now, the ST is their Star Wars, just like the PT was to a generation before them. This is why both Galaxy's Edge and the Starcruiser were set in the ST, Disney knows that the ST is the current future of the franchise and that the parents of the kids who love the ST that are casual fans of Star Wars are going to be buying all of the Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren merch and take them to Galaxy's Edge and watch their kids be amazed at being in Star Wars and meeting the characters that they're familiar with. They know that these kids are the fans of the future that when they get older, will be buying all of the Star Wars (ST) merch they can get their hands on, just like the fans of the OT and the PT are today.
Wild to think that a company inherited a 6 film series and catered a expensive hotel to only their films. If it was set in the original trilogy it probably would have been more successful.

It still blows my mind how we went from the announcement of this hotel, and how exciting it could have been, to the poor execution that reinforced how far Star Wars has fallen. I went from promising my wife that I would be there for opening night to never caring if I ever saw it. And it seems I was not the only one given what happened to it...
Yeah they dropped the ball. That was their fan base. They had all their info. They could have held a private sale for those guests and sell them at a discount. (Online website) I'm sure they would have sold most of their inventory. Then sell off the rest at Disney outlet.

Regardless what you think about the merch itself.... It REALLY is telling that Disney didnt even bother make it possible for the people who had been guests at the Galactic Starcruiser to order missing items. Instead whoever is LIVING in the area gets premium treatment. This company is awful. Now they are awful even to the Disney fans. Incredible!

I'd buy some of that stuff. Halcyon merch would go well with my Light Magic pin and Rocket Rod keychain. If they still had one of the Starcruiser exclusive lightsabers for clearance price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
The shirts are kind of nice looking. The robots are cute. I wouldn't pay full price for them though. And yeah the LEAST they could have done was let prior guests get it half price by mail. Apparently NONE of these people went to any kind of marketing or business school.

Sad that it failed, and fans that paid don't get anything extra, the ones who paid when they were considering shutting down should have sent them a care package or even an email asking if they wanted first dibs on the merch that was going to clearance stores
I wonder how much money Disney has lost on Star Wars, after buying it from Lucas. Moreover, do you think Disney wished they'd never bought it? Or have they made money on it. Everything that is made in a smaller amount will be worth more down the line, especially pop culture stuff like Star Wars.

They've made a LOT of money. Everyone likes to point to the stock price being down 50% from all-time highs, but it's still almost double what it was when Disney acquired Lucasfilm.
Funny how Disney has less "collector/Brand" integrity than Gamestop or other stores I know that rather destroy old Merch than give it away. I remember them shredding games that wouldn't sell and cutting cords on controllers etc before dumping them in the trash so people couldn't take them. Same with a book store in my area Half price books. If they had too many copies of a book or it was just not selling they'd tear out the pages or what ever before tossing it. Just to ensure no one dumpster dived to get it.

So how do we know this wasn't always part of the plan. To rotate merchandise in and out. WDW retail outlets bring in new merchandise all the time. Even if the GSC had not closed, why would they not have brought in new merchandise and transferred the old material out to the park stores?
These items will become valuable over time only if the brand of Star Wars recovers. But the way things are going, I don't see it happening any time soon.
If I had a choice, I take one of them blue onesies that you showed on your channel over the past weekend. Well before I would ever take a Star wars shirt.
To be honest, it sucks that its in clearance, but I'd still pick it up for the very least collector sake. If anything possible re-sell later on. I know some of the costumes that were exclusive and even the jewelry will probably be sought after. Not sure what else. Other than maybe the saber.

This is why both Galaxy's Edge and the Starcruiser were set in the ST, Disney knows that the ST is the current future of the franchise and that the parents of the kids who love the ST that are casual fans of Star Wars are going to be buying all of the Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren merch and take them to Galaxy's Edge and watch their kids be amazed at being in Star Wars and meeting the characters that they're familiar with. They know that these kids are the fans of the future that when they get older, will be buying all of the Star Wars (ST) merch they can get their hands on, just like the fans of the OT and the PT are today.
Wild to think that a company inherited a 6 film series and catered a expensive hotel to only their films. If it was set in the original trilogy it probably would have been more successful.
I'd buy a model or keychain to keep as a reminder of the sort of self-destruction that can happen when you give in to hubris.

I went to Hollywood studios 3 weeks ago and when I saw the star cruise merchandise at the store. I just bursted out laughing. Disney is insane
It still blows my mind how we went from the announcement of this hotel, and how exciting it could have been, to the poor execution that reinforced how far Star Wars has fallen. I went from promising my wife that I would be there for opening night to never caring if I ever saw it. And it seems I was not the only one given what happened to it...

Yeah they dropped the ball. That was their fan base. They had all their info. They could have held a private sale for those guests and sell them at a discount. (Online website) I'm sure they would have sold most of their inventory. Then sell off the rest at Disney outlet.

Regardless what you think about the merch itself.... It REALLY is telling that Disney didnt even bother make it possible for the people who had been guests at the Galactic Starcruiser to order missing items. Instead whoever is LIVING in the area gets premium treatment. This company is awful. Now they are awful even to the Disney fans. Incredible!

I'd buy some of that stuff. Halcyon merch would go well with my Light Magic pin and Rocket Rod keychain. If they still had one of the Starcruiser exclusive lightsabers for clearance price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I wonder how much money Disney has lost on Star Wars, after buying it from Lucas. Moreover, do you think Disney wished they'd never bought it? Or have they made money on it. Everything that is made in a smaller amount will be worth more down the line, especially pop culture stuff like Star Wars.

They've made a LOT of money. Everyone likes to point to the stock price being down 50% from all-time highs, but it's still almost double what it was when Disney acquired Lucasfilm.
I have said from the opening days of that starship thing that give enough time all the merch will be in clearance stores for next to nothing.
Funny how Disney has less "collector/Brand" integrity than Gamestop or other stores I know that rather destroy old Merch than give it away. I remember them shredding games that wouldn't sell and cutting cords on controllers etc before dumping them in the trash so people couldn't take them. Same with a book store in my area Half price books. If they had too many copies of a book or it was just not selling they'd tear out the pages or what ever before tossing it. Just to ensure no one dumpster dived to get it.

So how do we know this wasn't always part of the plan. To rotate merchandise in and out. WDW retail outlets bring in new merchandise all the time. Even if the GSC had not closed, why would they not have brought in new merchandise and transferred the old material out to the park stores?
