Good stuff, been too long since I did this as well. I really like how Demetrious shows not making the ball but banking it up and down table so you have solid evidence on how hard you are striking it.

@CueballcontrolSometimes Appreciate it! Banking up and down for speed control is solid feedback-it really helps measure another variable. Demetrious knows his stuff! I can see this being super helpful if you're struggling at a certain distance. The more you know. Glad it resonated with you! 🎱💙

I have been thinking about something you said in this video since you have released it but I just now decided to ask.
I want to preface this with you are a better shot than I am but I am not bad.
You said to use two tips below Center and vary the speed. And while I do like that approach, I also will use one tip below Center or three tips below Center on a regular basis so that my speed can be faster or slower respectively.
Do you do this as well or do you almost always stick to two tips?
I love the idea of holding one of their variables, the same and adjusting the other one in order to reduce the complexity of the shot. And I've also heard some commentator mention that a pro told them that they like to keep the speed the same and vary the tip position.
Personally, I think it is good to be able to do both, just not together. Sometimes I want my speed to be the same and change my tip position and sometimes I want my tip position to be the same and change my speed.
I'm not sure if I can explain why this is better other than it just gives me more options.
I would be curious to hear your opinion

@shanesoldner9117 Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! I really appreciate the depth of your insight-it’s clear you’ve been putting serious thought and training into your game.
As you know, sticking with a constant 2 tips below center helps limit the variables and develop a solid baseline. This baseline works wonders for all shots because it gives you a reference for SPEED, making adjustments in tip position easier later on. It’s easy to get lost trying to perfect everything at once. I like to focus on practicing consistency with one variable at a time, which helps refine SPEED and makes it stick through repetition.
Practicing different tip positions is good. Once you’ve nailed your baseline speeds, dabbling in tip positions has its benefits. I think practicing stop shots from different distances with different tip positions is helpful too. For me, I'll throw in a few here and there while doing the draw drill, but I don’t spend too much time on it. These aren’t the types of shots you want to shoot too frequently, but they do come in handy occasionally. If you’ve got the time, go for it!
That’s my two cents. Practicing all the tip positions isn't gonna hurt (I did it long ago), but there’s more progress-and it comes faster-if you stick to one. Hope this helps, and thanks again for such a great discussion! I appreciate you, many thanks! 💙🎱

      @9livespool I understand
You said that because if you didn't people would continue to try and adjust for everything all at one time.
And you can reduce a lot of complexity of any shot if you can remove variables from the equation.
And saying it the other way isn't quite right. You can't keep the speed the same and change the tip position because lower tip positions are slower hits than closer to the center tip positions.
Thanks for the response, I enjoyed thinking about all this at a deeper level.
I generally enjoy talking about pool and there's not many people to do that with. Plus most of my life people were very secretive about knowledge and today all of that knowledge is out in the wild, I believe anybody can become good, assuming you put table time in.

@shanesoldner9117 Anytime. I think my 8-ball stuff touches on some deeper concepts that I don't see anyone else talking about-I sprinkle them in as the opportunity presents itself. I wish there was more discussion out there! Maybe as the channel grows, that’ll change. 🤞
You're spot on about simplifying by removing variables-it’s such an effective way to build confidence and consistency. Like you said, lower tip positions are slower hits than closer-to-center ones, so it’s all about understanding how each adjustment impacts speed and spin. Once you have a strong baseline, you can dabble with variations and really refine your control.
I love that the pool community is opening up these days. It’s refreshing to see knowledge being shared so freely-everyone has the chance to level up now. Thanks for the great discussion; it’s always awesome to connect with someone who appreciates the finer points of the game. 🎱💙

It is higher than normal. I lowered a few of the peaks slightly, but overall, in the mix it is higher than the usual...by a lot. I thought it would work with the tone. Hopefully, it wasn't annoying. 😬 Thank you @H3x42Tashdid , I appreciate it. 🩵🎱

So you are drawing the ball more and more (1 diamond, then 2, then 3...) by hitting harder? but thats incorrect. Watch professionals or very good players play. You will notice they hit 90% or more of their shots at the same speed and stroke. Thats the key to consistency. Find your natural stroke.
SO how do they control the ball so well with the same speed, stroke and followthrough? Tip position
For me and my cue, if I am 1 diamond away from the object ball and i want to stop the ball, i use 1/4 tip below center
For 2 diamonds away, and i want a stop shot I will use 1/2 tip below center. And 3 diamonds away stop i would use 3/4 tip below center. same speed and stroke
BUT you say we're talking draw shot. This same thing applies to draw. From 1 diamond away for stop i use 1/4 tip below center, for 1 diamond draw i go 1/4 tip lower so 1/2 tip below. I teach it like its simple counting. Start with stop shot and you get 1/4 tip for every diamond and then adjust for draw you want. 4 diamonds away and you want 2 diamonds draw = 6/4 or 1 and 1/2 tip below center but with same speed stroke followthrough as all previous
This works with follow too. Start with stop shot. 1 diamond away you start 1/4 tip below center for stop, but you want to follow 4 diamonds forward so you add 4x 1/4 or 4/4 to your -1/4 and you end up with 3/4 tip above center

Thanks for sharing such a detailed explanation of your approach! Using consistent stroke speed and varying tip position is a good method for building precision and control.
I agree that professionals strive for consistency in their strokes, but they also vary stroke speed depending on the situation. Blindly following common rhetoric can limit a player’s potential, and sometimes the true meaning isn’t fully understood. In this video, I emphasize the relationship between stroke power (acceleration) and spin, which helps players develop feel-something that can’t be fully captured in mathematical terms or learned simply by reading.
As a side note, the changes in tip position don’t translate as linearly as you described. It’s a bit of an oversimplification, so I encourage caution with such claims. My video presents a different perspective that’s worth exploring, and I stand by its value in developing feel and versatility.
Ultimately, consistency is key, and experimenting with both approaches can help players take their game to the next level. I really appreciate your thoughtful input-it’s always great to exchange pool knowledge! 🎱💙
