  • Cockpit View: MANILA - Thunderstorm Approach
    ( Landing at 7:15 )
Extremely cool pilot perspective of the flight.
Approach and landing at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport (RPLL).
-See the flightdeck crew being vectored by ATC due to high traffic flow/peak hour and bad weather in the area.
-See the pilots busy with circumnavigating some bumpy thunderstorm cells during approach.
-See a TCAS-event on final: TCAS-Warning ("traffic traffic") during final approach, triggered by a landing rescue helicopter (unfortunately invisible on the video) on the extended centerline of the runway.
    Fantastic HD wideview.
Contains some landscape and ATC description, to help understanding aircraft position and flightpath in relation to the metropole and the airport.
Part of a continued series about takeoff, approach and landing at different famous world airports and cities across the globe, just in the perspective of the captain.
I really hope you enjoy as much as I did while aloft.
Check out also these cool flight videos of the series:

    and
    • Video ( Hong Kong HKG Night Landing)

Here is my channel description, if you haven't read it already:
This are my cockpit videos of international flights, shot while at work.
Aviation and the open sky have fascinated me all my life.
Some day my passion was strong enough and it turned into a profession.
I love the emotional side of flight - Men naturally don't fly. I think it's one of the big privileges of our generation to soar and fly by help of machines.
I believe, this enchanting land high in the sky can be a home for those who accept it's rules. And those are very simple.
If I managed to infect you a bit with this love, I just reached my goal.
Thanks for watching, I really hope you enjoyed. If you liked it, please share the video and hit the like-thumb !

Nothing beats the bright sunshine, azure skies, and fluffy cumulus clouds of the tropics. And, no one has put up a better in-flight cockpit view video on the web. Kudos and thanks!

Awesome. Just discovered your RUclips channel. My father used to work for Philippine Airlines. He spent over 35 years at that company. Unfortunately didn't end up in that field. I love watching aviation videos, going to airshows and taking photographs of aircraft whenever I can. Liked and subscribed to your channel.

I don't think you're at Tayabas Bay nor it's Mindoro at @0:47 : looks like Los Banos, Laguna (waypoint BANOS) because of the Alligator/Tadlac Lake -like , uhm lake. It can be also seen that it's seems near to foot of a mountain, which is highly likely Mt. Makiling. Also, you mst be above Laguna de Bay (the lake within main luzon island)
Aside, I hail from Mindoro island and now live in LB, Laguna for nearly 13 years now - I am quite familiar with the topography of both from the sky. ;)

Got the impression that the co-pilot was only along for the ride with the pilot wanting to do everything. Did they even speak to each other during the flight. Did not look like a friendly cockpit.

    • @Starflight2006
      @Starflight2006  9 лет назад +17

      Thanks for your comment!
No worries, your impression is totally wrong. Communication and work on an airline flightdeck in reality generally follow strict CRM principles and task sharing for a good reason (different than from an action movie scene as you might have expected). You do not hear and see much of the headset communication between the pilots in this video, but this is intentionally. In fact, there were lots of mutual quick decisions due to severe weather and the high dense traffic situation around. Not easy to recognize in the video, but when you watch carefully you will notice we actually talked all the time. The full approach was much longer than shown, with a holding pattern etc. as well. On this specific flight the actual PF choosed to fly manually with the actual PM doing the settings for him, communicating with ATC and assisting with NAV and WX avoidance, according operational procedures of our airline. That means, even if not visible for you here: Really a lot of things happen quickly and at the same time. To ensure safety and efficiency, communication is in a "sterile cockpit mode" therefore, means there is no funny or unnessary chat anymore. This is vital for the safe outcome of the flight and a principle common to all airlines worldwide. I agree, this might look somewhat unfriendly for you. On a real flight, with real pilots (not actors), an observer from behind will probably always get this impression when the crew works very concentrated and getting involved with a more complicated approach phase. Especially if there is a higher workload than normal and you can't hear their communication. But that doesn't mean it's a one man show without fun. It's just a different concept than in other jobs. Anyway, no professional airline "co-pilot" would accept to fly just "only along for the ride" with "the pilot" wanting "to do everything". Here it's all about a reliable and good working team. But, as I said, no worries - I can assure there was a professional shallow command gradient with very good mood and perfect disciplined teamwork, even if it does not look so for a layperson.
Btw : The two pilots in the video are close friends since many years :)
      Hope that answers your questions.
      All the best - Cheers!
