I find your viewpoints interesting, and sometimes you bring to light something which no one else has. Please, keep up the good work! 73 de KA8VLW, Ken, Michigan

A lot of interesting topics covered, incidentally although I have not checked recently the reciprocal licence arrangements used to dictate that operation was limited to the most restrictive of the overlapping "licences". So for instance as a UK ham I could operate in the States but limited to 400w and the more restrictive of the frequency allocations, ie 144-146MHz on the 2m band. I have no idea if this is still the case. Here in the UK part of the attraction of the 4m band used to be the lack of commercial equipment built for it. More recently a number of rigs are 4m capable, (some with just a key combination to enable it). My FTDX101MP covers 4m but so far I have not heard any activity, though I do not have a dedicated antenna for the band. 4m does work well mobile....with a quarter wave being a reasonable size... 73

Hello Ria, a few months ago I purchased your book “ Ham Radio Technician Class Test Study Guide 2022-2026 “ it has helped me immensely so I’m curious to know if you wrote a similar book for the General Class Test?

Hello! Glad you found it helpful. I haven’t written a general book yet.

Great video. I really liked the explanation of the difference between operating with your operator license and the station license, and the contrast of that vs. operation with someone else as control operator.
Could you speak to the identification rules in a future video? I hear so many people not ID-ing at the end of QSOs it drives me nuts, in particular contests and -OTA type activations. Even the ARRL give an example contest exchange that doesn't include the non-running station giving their call on their last transmission. Do other countries not have this rule and so everyone looks the other way on this?

So during a contest you’ve already stated your call, and other information required per the contest rules. otherwise a busted contact. Meaning no points.
With that said you’re not required to give your call at the end of the contest exchange. Doing so is bad etiquette and considered bad practice. Contesting isn’t for everyone.
And if you brush up on the REG’s as long as you identify once every what 7- 10 minutes that’s all that’s legally required.

97.119(a) Each amateur station, except a space station or telecommand station, must transmit its assigned call sign on its transmitting channel at the end of each communication, and at least every 10 minutes during a communication, for the purpose of clearly making the source of the transmissions from the station known to those receiving the transmissions.
So you need to ID at the end of the communication. This means when you sign off. It doesn’t mean at the end of every transmission.

@@n2rj I fully understand and agree for the 'running' station. But for the hunt and pounce station, the end of the contest exchange isn't considered the 'end of {each} communication' ? I guess I equated 'communication' with QSO or contact, which is what's leading to my misunderstanding since you're essentially QSY to another frequency for another QSO.

@BrianFields that is a great question
