Wonderful to have found this! Much love to the musicians! And Mermaid Melissa! A truly memorable rendition of Donovan's classic. Genius. If you love "Atlantis," you may treasure this even more greatly than Donovan's original . . . .
Thank you for your wonderful comment Frank! We highly appreciate! This was played, recorded and mixed by two people: me & my friend. We’ve been recording covers for about 20 years, just for fun. It’s my friend on guitars, half of the backing vocals and filming, me on drums, percussion, bass, piano, leadvocal and the other half of the backingvocals. This song means much to me personally, that’s why I changed the lyrics very slightly. Donovan sang in the ‘third person’ , I sing in ‘first person’, insinuating I’m somehow a survivor of the lost continent Atlantis 😉 From all our covers, this is one I’m particulary happy with because everything just turned out right...and the inserts of the wonderful Mermaid Melissa gives the video a higher level as well. We do treasure this one. I’m very happy you enjoyed this and took the time and effort to write your wonderful comment. Thanks again!
Very good job of covering this Donovan song. I really enjoyed listening to this! Thank you for making such beautiful music and sharing it with the world.
Thanks a lot! The accent in the opening narration was not intended to be a Dutch one actually, but given the fact that I *am* Dutch: it probably turned out like that! 😉 There’s a tiny small difference in the lyrics. Donovan spoke in the third person, I speak in the first person, as if I’m actually from Atlantis. So the accent was intended to be an Antedeluvian accent...but never mind! Thank you for your compliments, we highly appreciate!
Thank you very much for your comments and compliments Stephen! We highly appreciate! 'Anonymus' is a duo, as you can read in the description. My mate did the acoustic guitar, half of the backing vocals and the filming, I did the drums, percussion, bass, piano, electric guitar, the other half of the backing vocals and the lead vocal. Very glad you appreciate our cover, thanks again!
Very Good! Even though I have a descent 5.1 Audio system for my custom-built computer, the EQ/Mix of this version by Anonymus is not coming through quite right. I'm pretty sure that it's really my system's fault and a limited degree of options. My home stereo system is comprised of far better, higher-end, components and includes 3 Reel-to-Reel decks, (one of which is a 1/2 track mastering deck). I think I'm going to record this version of Atlantis, (for my own collection, of course). I'll remaster the song through an analog mixer and 48-Octave EQ. I'm hoping to end up with a more balanced, final recording. But again, strictly for my own personal collection, (with no copyright violations). Atlantis was one of my most favorite songs ever since it was released. I was 12 years old in 1968 and this song really helped me stop the 'circle of constantly contradicting noise' that was being hammered all over the place back then. When that song would play on the tinny-sounding school bus radio, (as it drove us all back home from school), it always seemed like a great relief in my own mind, and it leveled the world through the eyes of a 12 year-old. LOL, believe it or not, this song actually encouraged me to pay more attention in history and social studies classes. My overall grades in both of those classes greatly improved and it was because of the lyrics in this song, seriously! FWIW
Thank you very much for your comment and compliments richpaul! We highly appreciate! I’m 50% of ‘Anonymus’, I’m the guy you see in the video, hear on vocals, drums & piano and half of the backing vocals. My mate, the other 50% is on bass & guitars and on camera. He is the most technical of us two. We both work on the mix, but it’s mainly my mate, he’s a real ‘gearslut’ so to say. We do all our mixes in stereo and also pay attention to the mono mix, but we never paid any attention on 5.1 mixes, but it makes your comment that much interesting, we never thought about that! Our studio set up is purely stereo, we don’t have the required equipment nor monitors to do a 5.1 mix. But I would be very curious to hear a 5.1 mix of our version, although I don’t have a 5.1 system myself. Your equipment seems really great and hi end. Much more fancy than the common RUclips user. I’ll send your comment to my mate as well. If it would be useful, AND we still have the complete multi tracks, maybe we can send it to you, but my mate has to give his permission as well. Great memories on the song you shared! Usually my mate and me propose ideas on turns, this song was my idea. I’ve always had a fascination for the myth of the sunken continent Atlantis and I always found the song fascinating as well, almost hypnotizing, with a kind of ‘mantra’ feel to it. We had a great time working on it. Unfortunately I’m unable to upload any new video’s due to an expired browser. My mate runs our regular channel wich is called ‘Anonymushits’, it also features this cover, but on my channel there are way more views on it. Thanks again for your great comment! Cheers! Hello Shah, This cover is performed by my friend, Geert van der Beek, and myself. It’s Geert on acoustic and electric guitars and half of the two background choirs at the end. It’s me (Pascal Smit) on drums, bass, piano, leadvocal and the other half of the background choirs. Recorded by ourselves on 24 tracks, mixed PC based in Nuendo by ourselves. And yes, the original was written and recorded by Donavan in 1968. I always liked this song very much and I’m also very fascinated by the Atlantis story. Thanks for your comment!
