Very good review! Reason why I'm watching is because I got a Disco Sport as a loaner car, it has amazed me a lot, it handles good, easy to park, can handle the basic off road stuff, and for some reason it has a bigger second row than the full size Disco. If you're in the market looking for a small SUV and want something that could do a little more on the weekends this is perfect. But I would never trade my Full Size Disco for this, personally.

I recently drove a Land Rover Discovery Sport 2016, 13,000 kms, from Toronto to British Columbia by way of Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Saskatchewan, Alberta. And then home, via Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan in a five week period including a lot of fly fishing. The vehicle was superb, on the highway, in the mountains, off road, and carried fishing gear and a lot of equipment. Great on gas mileage and the smoothest ride. The only requirements for me in future would be a winch, towing gear for a pulling a drift boat and a snorkel. Looking forward to a road trip to Puntas Arenas, Chile for the ultimate road trip.

john walker I am glad to hear you liked it. I’m going to buy a used 2016 Discovery sport. I’ve had 3 range rovers in the past. I then bought an Xterra Pro 4X and a Cadillac SRX. Now I’m going back to Land Rover. I left LRJ after BMW then Ford bought them, because my last RR was nothing but problems. I’m only going to have about a year on the warranty though on the Discovery since it will be used, so it’s making me a bit nervous.

Perfect lifetime review. Of course it smells a lot of money. The parts are expensive and it should travel all the way from England but its functional. I am using an HSE in India and I must say that this is an awesome SUV. Tackles almost every thing, because I worry about the side panels. If I get a rugged scratch proof surface all around the car then this is one hell of an SUV.

This is the first time I’ve come across you channel and I have to say, I think I really like your approach to reviewing. What I mean when I say - I think-, I wasn’t to sure at first as I was expecting a typical car review, but your editing and cutting from one scene or topic to the next was very organic (bit like my thought processes) and personable, like talking to mate even though you don’t know me. Of course the photography, especially the aerial was great, gotta get me one of those Mavic Pro’s.
Anyway what I mean to say is, I enjoyed your review and I think I’ll subscribe to your channel.

This is amazing. I hope you expand your channel and review Jeeps, Fords etc. I just need an overland capable 4x4 with 7 seats that gets 25+ mpg and can be found used under $25k to be used as a driver, can tow my boat & light trailer, handle trips to the Eastern Oregon desert and also be fun to zip up hwy101. I'm not sure if there is another rig that qualifies. I don't even think i have to have the diesel. My LR3 was everything i needed but i can't get a diesel in Oregon.

I truly agree with your point on the old car costing cheap bucks vs new car. I have 4 cars. The oldest/cheapest/simplest I respect the most.. My new X5 which I have paid for more than all the other cars together is the one that gets the most beating and the least respect.. I take it to the tip and it aint no garage queen. For the money paid, it better be the best in everything. When looking at these cars I really am afraid of the electronics and the complexity of technology. Ive been driving 3000miles and have been seeing 3-4 error messages which eventually went away after turning the car off and on again. But I wonder what it will cost me in 10 Yrs time to have these faults repaired..... Very nice video, true thoughts. Keep it up!

This is by far one of the best RUclips videos I’ve seen. Fantastic production and a good everyday review. It’s helped me square the circle in the belief a Discovery Sport can be a suitable replacement for my Discovery 4. Potentially not meeting all the challenges you could overcome with a full blow Disco, however, how often do we ever put them through it. 2.5Tones towing capacity means you can still move a lot of equipment with it. Minds made up now. My next Land Rover is going to be a Discovery Sport 2.2 HSE. Thank you 👍

Thanks for making this film. Way more useful to see what it's like to live with rather than a bunch of stats that the salesman will tell you. Coming up to possibly change my XF and would like to go back to landrover. I started with buying a series 1 and restoring it when I was 16. Owned a few. The garage are talking Velar or RR Sport, but I'm thinking of reducing my car costs, wondering whether this was a viable option. Your film is a big tick in the disco sport box. Cheers.

Gosh it would probably feel and drive even more amazing if you could put 17 or 16 inch wheels with way thicker rubber on their to be able to are down more seriously. Not saying it isn't doing some good things with those tires and wheel size but gosh for someone who knows just how much some small wheels with thick rubber are down can do it's hard to imagine how much more awesome that four-wheel-drive system would be with some real thick rubber underneath

Brilliant vid - but - Landrover spend millions making their cars incredibly capable off-road, not just off-tarmac, so why not get your money's worth? I have an FL2 and RRS, and I hit the mud in them - real nasty mud. They are both brilliant vehicles. If I could afford a new Disco Sport, I'd want to see what I'd paid for, and see what to could really do. If not, I might was well buy a Ford Kuga and just get it dusty. Sorry - this isn't addressed to you, just an anxt with RR reviews in general. Your vid is refreshing!

Very well shot and assembled and great thoughts. It's hard to classify a vehicle like this in the crossover category because, well, it crosses one type of vehicle (a traditional SUV) with another (a wagon) so you end up with something that is by nature neither here nor there. The easiest way to do the sums for me is to think of it on a slider scale of competence for its intended use - where a wagon is far left on the slider as a daily driver and street biased runabout, and something like a defender is far right. You have to take stock of where on the slider your needs are and shop there - occasional light duty off road but mainly wagon stuff? Discovery sport. More aggressive and frequent duty off road use? Discovery. etc. That being said, I think they missed an opportunity not to do low range. The GNK drivetrain is tied to the evoke platform so they were hamstrung there but there is an option out there that could give real low range and have fit without too much repackaging in the AAM ECOTRAC II

Nice video/film. My freelander 2 has been a trusty companion for 17 (!) years now. I’ve done a variety of test drives over the year in Jeeps, BMW’s, Toyo and the new Defender, as I expect the FL2 to die on me at some point. But it doesn’t. It just keeps going.
Sure I had some maintenance done but only normal wear and tear tbh. Nothing faiked prematurely. And here in the snowy Alps the 4x4 system gets a proper workout too!
But if it needs replacing, a second hand disco sport seems like a no-brainer.
    Thnx!

If I hadn’t already been dead set on one of these, this video would’ve done it. Such a pleasure to watch.

I bought this 4 ywars ago back in 2016, very happy with it; only complaint is its a little thirsty in a city but on the notes super economical

This is, without doubt, one of the best videos on any subject that I was fortunate to find on RUclips.
Having never owned a Land Rover of any type, the new Discovery Sport has certainly got me interested. I couldn't afford to buy a new version, so I've been looking at the many RUclips review videos. I've heard of the reliability problems that seem to surround newer Land Rovers and that is probably my main concern, but your superb video was a pleasure to watch.
I hope that the decision makers at Land Rover have seen it as it would make sense to give you the vehicle for a much longer period and allow you to use your filming style and descriptive skills for further in-depth videos.

I have always had LandRover vehicles and currently have a Range Rover Sport and a Discovery Sport. The Discovery Sport is 66 Reg and done 39,000 and have had no and I mean no issues with it. Only thing I don't like about it is mine came with no spare wheel. It came with a chemical injection repair kit which is of zero use if you put a 1 inch tear in the wall of a front wheel tyre which I did and had to call out the RAC for a lift home. Not the vehicles fault, I didn't check the vehicle spec when I bought it from the Landrover showroom.
Great vehicle, comfortable to drive, very reliable and my three rather large golden retrievers love it as well!!

Ummmm! What is it about Landrover's? I have owned 4 Series lll and your comment about that smell is very true! I like the first range rover, and love defenders, driven loads, I adore the shape. The Discovery 3/4 is beautiful to look at, but I do not like this new discovery at all!! Sorry to say. It looks like it is trying to fit into a category of a little of everything, trying to be politically correct. I do like your way of reviewing however. My paragraph has a lot of I's in it, which is indeed like saying one mans meat is another mans poison, and this is probably the point. Personal likes and dislikes, feelings, experiences and the like affect us. This Discovery doesn't do anything for me at all.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post this.
