Here's a fact for ya: "The chance of being killed by a shark in the United States is less than 1 in 264.1 million." It might seem scary to be in the ocean with so much life below you, but what's wonderful about the ocean is how many things can't kill you lol!! So many beautiful fish, reefs, algae, and animals. It can be scary at times in "sharkier" areas. Most of the time, the best thing to do is to train your brain to accept that they could possibly be with you and then move on. Accepting their presence helps me not get as scared. I've been surfing for over 12 years, and I have never come across a threatening shark :) Only about a dozen of the more than 500 species of sharks are considered dangerous to humans, meaning most of them are friendly. If you're feeling scared, I'd recommend investing in a "Shark Band." It is a bracelet that sends electromagnetic currents out to deter sharks. I've taken this on some of my travels to ease the nerves. I hope this helps!!! Lmk if you have any other questions
@@rebeccajamgochian thanks for the reply! i try to get this out of my mind but it's hard when 1 or 2 deaths by sharks get so much attention from the media, like the guy from pirates of the carribean who died by a shark attack in hawaii in 2024, and the guy in egypt who was eaten alive by a tiger shark; fck tiger sharks honestly. i dont know if i ever will be able to surf with peace of mind, but i think i'm going to try because it is the one of if not the only sports that i think its interesting and fun
Thank you!!! Yes, sunscreen is SO vital- I put it on every surf session I go out at. Sometimes, I have too much fun, get carried away, and surf too long....thus burning in the tropics lol! I will be more careful in the future :))
