Dortmund were two crossbar strikes from 3… Atletico were a fantastic save and tackle away from 4 (and I guess a Morata moment from 5 too)… this 2nd leg should be good stuff

It is easier for Atleti to defend rather than attack, that being said you can’t afford for them to score, these guys love when the game is rough, physical and defensive, and as we’ve seen with most Spanish teams, you make mistakes at the back they will punish you.

I think Dortmund can win this tie, but they need to finish their chances in at the Signal Iduna Park and of course defend a little bit better.
Atletico have that experience and a better coach so I think that will play a factor in the 2nd leg.

@@ThomasSamoth-ls8ed the first half Dortmund was no where near Atletico. It was just in the second half that they tried to do something in which again Atletico had better chances especially on that incredible save pulled in by Dortmund's goalie.

De Paul clear handball also wasn't reacted to by the ref, at all. Should have been a pen. De Paul actually should have been sent off with his multiple rough fouls, but he didn't even get a yellow. Then Simeone attacked Kehl at the coaching area but again no card either. ATM/spanish league paid the refs and that despite ATM having 8 days of rest before the match.
There's no offsides on a throw in. That goal was perfectly fine

I don't get why start Witsel over Savic. Savic is a much better defender, Witsel is a CDM, not even a proper CB. Pick the right squad and rely on quick counter in return leg. Picked Atleti after the draw and sticking with it. Although, if Barca get through and they should, they will wipe the floor with either of these.

Since Witsel come to ATM, he becomes CB. He can't replace Koke or Kondogbia that time. But he can played as a CB and keeping him in Starting XI, because Gimenez has often injured.
Witsel has been our best CB this season. It's best if he starts in the middle of the back 3 but he mops up everything and more importantly he helps us play out from the back way better than Savic. Savic is far more prone to mistakes.
Savic has been a liability at the back this season.

De Paul handball in penalty box, false throw-in before ATM goal, De Paul multiple rough fouls but doesn't even get a yellow once, Simeone attacking Kehl and pushing him 3 times but didn't get a yellow card either.
