We mainly wanted to modernise the van 😅 but the layout for us was fine, definitely recommend the lino flooring if you have a dog! Not sure what happened, we took it to Kyle's dad's to have a look at the belts and said they looked fine and as we came back onto our drive it exploded coolant! So we think it was down to timing, the expansion tank looked like the original so that's been replaced and then the radiator was also replaced, but turned out there was a small leak in the hose! So far so good 🤞 does your van get hot quite quickly too? (Don't think it helps that we live on a hill!) 🙈
@@HayandKyle I've only had it since September and it's pretty cold now. Apparently they are well known to overheat. U could get an extra fan for little cost that blows on the engine and u could also put the heating on when driving which is annoying in the summer 😂 I've bought some stick on Victorian Moroccan tiles to put on the wood and where u have your tea towel hanging.
Hi to you both, great video, we have the same van as you and love ours too, but nippy as the summer nights end but we love the freedom, We've only stayed local while we learn to trust him lol, fitted a leisure battery last week and now we've very little spark in the dizzy and none at the plugs hahaha oh the joys!! Finding parts and oldskool mechanics who will take him on though is proving very difficult but he will roar again and the summer will be a winner, take care, Pete & Sue
Hello Pete and Sue! Thanks so much for commenting, you are in good company with the same van as us :) It's taken us the better part of a year to fully trust Merlin and just this past weekend we finally headed up to the Lake District in him and he performed like a champ with no issues! Took a long time to work out his character and kinks. You'll have to let us know how you get on with the leisure battery as it's not something we have installed, but want one! If you're not already, we would recommend joining one of several Trafic owners clubs on Facebook as they are a wealth of knowledge and spare parts! We have a new video featuring Merlin coming out in a couple weeks, so hopefully catch you then! Enjoy!
The cooling system has been the main problem on mine, with bust hoses, cracked expansion bottle, radiator fan sensor switch (twice), and fan motor. Temperature gauge. I was going through more coolant than petrol. For the moment it's all perfect. 😄
I have the same van as yours and love it to bits.Best pop top arrangement I have seen on a van much better than the flimsy canvas arrangements on modern vans.
Ahh we are in good company then :) Yeah we love our van, hoping to do some more work on him next year and lots more adventures too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙏
Had one of these but mine was the facelift 1990 model with a 1.4 engine! Great vid, I wondered how the bed went together, I couldn’t figure it out so ended up sleeping on the floor in a sleeping bag! Lol😂 Also my leisure battery wasn’t receiving charge from the engine so I was charging it manually and using the lights very sparingly. I wish I’d watched something like this before buying the van, I sold the van on for what I paid for it in the end but it was great fun though.
Hi Liam! The lights inside the van are powered off the main battery although we don't use them very often. We actually purchased a seperate solar powered battery to use for lighting and other equipment as we don't have a leisure battery installed in Merlin! :O
Been looking into a Campervan albeit not fully invested yet. Given the phasing out of petrol engines am wondering whether electric might be the way to go? Expensive right now, so we may have to press pause. Other option is an old clunker for a few years. Could be a laugh. Great video again, guys!
I had a Renault Trafic hi-top, never seen a SOLID pop up roof like that. Must be a lot warmer than a soft pop top. Anyway, I know you haven't got him anymore, so it's not relevant. Love campervans and I enjoyed looking around Merlin.
You have set yourself up well. I to have a van. Maybe we should hook up at some point half dozen vans and a tour of Scotland. Can you let me know your toilet make and model looks better than mine.
Thanks Paul, much appreciated. We can't wait to get out and about and hopefully up Scotland as soon as we can! Our toilet is British made by a company called "Pop a loo" 👍
We've just bought a 1994 Renault Trafic Holdsworth San Remo. The bed is baffling us. your seats seemed to come all the way down from the driver and passenger seat where as ours don't. If anyone has any clue how to make a bed that a man of 5 ft 11 can sleep in without folding him in half or sawing his legs off can you please help! I am really short so I can fit in it no problem but I believe I have done it wrong and I am missing something.
@@HayandKyle i took engine /gearbox from another traffic always seemed slow but great fuel econ 60+mpg shame the body corroded away cost of repairs were beyond economic
I guess we joined the "I got a campervan during lockdown" crew 😂🤷♀️ did anything unexpected happen to you guys during 2020?
Loving Merlin!
I have this exact van!!! Bought it two months ago 😄 1988. U have given me some good ideas for the interior.

I love merlin! You’ve done an amazing job decorating he looks dashing!! 💗 also raisin is gorgeous! 😍 can’t wait for the next vlog xxxx
Thanks so much Nat! ☺️
Good to see you out and about in Merlin. Hope you have as much fun as we do in our van! Keep the vlogs coming! Love em! 😍
😁😁 thanks!!
Oh and forgot to add, I loved loved loved the 15 point turn 😂 the lack of power steering is something to behold in our van too
Done a lot more 15 point turns since that video and have many more in our future 😂
@@HayandKyle you'll have biceps like schwarzaneger lol
@@petenic8504 hopefully I won't get too buff otherwise I'll not fit in the van anymore 😅
Love it . Love to merlin and raisin. Brilliant video I miss camping in our caravan. Xxxx

Hi there, Mamo here, admin of the facebook group "Travel vlog". Thanks for posting your video there, keep up the good work. Just subscribed.
Thank you Mamo 😄 hope you enjoy our channel! Sorry we missed posting a new video yesterday, but will have one out this Sunday 👍 ☺️

Thank you so much. We appreciate your feedback :) :) :)
@@HayandKyle you're always welcome. Don't know if you've seen any of my recent videos but hope you will have a peek. 😊
Oo yes! We will take a peek :)
Merlin looks fantastic, we have a very similar van called Daisy 😀
Love Daisy! 😁 Long lost brother and sister! 😄
That sucks your wedding was cancelled twice!! Hope you guys enjoy your time adventuring in the van though!
Ha yeah! 2020 huh? 👎 We are hoping the adventures in the van make up for it :) Thanks for watching our vlog 👌

I basically have the same car currently in house arrest in a barn right now😂 Engine needs replacement and I got one sitting inside just waiting.
good
Loved the editing and sweet decor :) . How much did you guys buy the camper for?
Thanks so much ✌️ because of the low mileage he was £5k
@@HayandKyle Oh sweet. I wasn't sure as I'd seen one I like for about 3k and then saw another one for 13k?!

Did you guys convert the lights inside to led? How long is your fridge. Working on the Leslie battery?

We hear of old VW Vans getting Tesla engines in them, it's certainly a thing! Who knows, we might get one in Merlin to have less problems 😅

How much did merlin cost
What’s happened to Merlin guys ?
Unfortunately we no longer own this van 😭 We replaced him with a bigger Merlin, but there's probably a story for another day there too 🚐
i had an 86 c plate one that i converted to diesel from petrol
Oh nice! Did you find the diesel performed better than petrol?
