Honestly, it seems to me that the Jedi were always looking backwards. Those few Jedi looking forward seemed more and more ostracized for it (exposing an otherwise quiet overwhelming fear of the Jedi, the emergence of the dark side). In my personal opinion the Jedi needed to conquer this fear first before agreeing to ally themselves as an order with any other part of the galaxy. Ultimately I believe the "legend" of the Jedi, the perceptually highly advanced civilization, was what kept them from seeing that they were not as ready as many thought (and in fact more in their infancy in many ways). Further, by not truly overcoming the dark side the Jedi carried it out into the unknown where there was no way to know who was or wasn't going to lose their way. This made the involvement of even isolated Jedi sent on isolated missions a very real gamble. Between these two points the fear of the dark side and the threat of the unknown the Jedi more often ended up becoming their fears and fighting against one another than they probably ever should have... In a sense, the decision to see their future outside themselves rather than from within themselves ensured that the Schism War (much as the original conflict of the Jedi) would never end... only reincarnate.

Pretty sad we never got a book or comic series on Xendor and the Legions of Lettow. It would have been interesting to see especially if they got the right author to do so.
Pretty sure we would've gotten it without the Disney buy out. We got dawn of the jedi in like the last 2 years before the nuking of the EU and from what they were saying about that era it would've gone over the entire origin of the jedi probably ending at the second great schism with Ajunta pal.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk Keep in mind that Dawn of the Jedi was supposed to be an ongoing series much like Legacy and Knights of the Old Republic comics were at the time. However it is possible though unlikely that they would have covered Xendor or the Legions of Lettow.

Jedi being aligned with Republic makes perfect sense. It's powerful organisation that has control of huge amount of space, giving Jedi huge amount of freedom, authority and tools to preserve peace. Sure, Jedi order became too close to Republic, and Republic definitely wasn't that good. On the one hand, the Old Republic era had some interesting ideas. For example, the Sith Empire/Order starting out thanks to exiled Jedi meeting, and renaming themselves after, a Sith species. On the other hand, the time scaling is, quite frankly, insane and also leads to events/storylines repeating themselves sometimes. Such as the Jedi losing *two* planets, Tython and Ossus, before moving to Coruscant.

No, the Jedai where kicked off Tython by the planet itself because the force wars proved they could no longer maintain balance. Previous to the force wars they all studied and follower a combination of the ashla and bogon, thus existing in balance. If anyone strayed too far in ether direction they where sent to the opposite sides moon to meditate and be rebalanced. The force war was started by the followers of the Ashla who had come to believe themselves superior and that only through the ashla could balance be achieved. Clearly wrong in their beliefs but unwilling to see the truth they attempted to convert or kill the followers of the bogon which is what started the war.
You'll notice that many of Geetsly's videos are pro-Jedi/light side Lucas propaganda, despite the actual EU "facts" he tilts to "prove" Lucas' views on the Force. As you pointed out, the Je'Daii were fine on Typhon until the Rakata attacked and forced their warriors to go too far into Bogan. Those who didn't would spin the other way in a negative reaction to the war that ultimately split the Order and got them all kicked off a planet that is only safe to live on when the light and dark are perfectly aligned within those on it. Despite Tython being the perfect proof of the concept that the two sides of the Force can be harmonised, many people (Geets included) refuse to accept anything but pro-Light ideas.
@@morlath4767 Three issues with that. First problem: just because it was possible in the past doesn't mean it's possible in the present. In the past, using both sides of the Force together got you the Je'Daii Order; in the present, it got you Darth Gravid, who literally went insane as a result of his attempt to mix light and dark. In the past, you could use the Dark Side without disregarding morality (with the primary example being Xendor); in the present, going over to the Dark Side invariably results in the degradation of your moral fiber, unless you have a counter-example that I'm not aware of. Second problem: the Je'Daii only worked in a vacuum. The instant they ran into a group that resolutely drew on the Dark Side and the Dark Side alone, their balancing act collapsed and they went over to the Dark Side, then dissolved into civil war. Third: whether it's possible to balance between Dark and Light and whether it's a good idea morally are two different things. The Dark Side of the Force is pretty much invariably associated with a failure of morals in a way that strongly implies that it causes this failure, while the Light Side is pretty much invariably associated with superior morality. Even in the case of the Je'Daii Order, a typical member's moral leanings seem to be a blend between Dark and Light, by which I mean "I generally care about people, though I'm not so sure the common people deserve our help, but most individuals aren't worth my time, I don't particularly care if I kill them in self-defense, and if I have to torture a not-particularly-innocent person, it's not a big deal"--I think, it's been a while since I read that book and I never read the comics, but that seemed to be a fairly typical outlook on life. In contrast, most Jedi care about people and don't want to hurt them if they can help it, are very hesitant to do anything like torture (to the point where most won't even consider it), and often go out of their way to help random people they happen to be passing by, and most Dark Jedi (particularly Sith but also others) don't care about other people at all except insofar as they are useful to them, and if they do, it is always subordinate to their self-interest.
@@samueldimmock694 I'll takle your points in order, but first - Solid rebuttal. I like how you put your points even if we don't agree. 1- Agree. Just because something could be done in the past, doesn't mean it can (or can't) be done in the present. Except we haven't really seen it happen. You bring up Graid and say he went insane trying to balance the light and dark. Except we don't know if he wasn't actually insane FIRST and the insanity is what pushed him to (badly) merge light and dark. After all, Darth Vectivus never attempted to take over the galaxy. He make a lair for himself and stuck to his experiments. Yet we know from Plagueis that even scientific Sith could still want to rule the galaxy. So Vectivus is an outlier. So simply saying that one example of a Sith we know very little about was both crazy AND attempted to balance the two sides shouldn't equate to declaring the second causes the first. 2 - I don't, but I do have an argument to explain this. Firstly, I'm not arguing that the dark side doesn't negatively impact morality into the selfish/immoral side of life. The concept of the dark side is fuelled by (negative) emotions after all. But the light side can also negatively impact morality into the Greater Good levels of forest/trees where light siders don't consider the individuals. Yoda is my go-to example of this. Anyway, Xendor is unique in that it was an attempt to look into the dark side WITHOUT throwing oneself into it. The majority of people who experiment in the dark side either get seduced by the power, or dive head-first into the depravity level. Power for power's sake. To me, Xendor were the last time someone attempted to "return" to the true Je'Daii concept of balancing things (use this power but don't become its pawn) until Kyle Katarn. 3 - I fully accept the Je'Daii work mostly in a vacuum. Because they were focused on exploring the Force. They were the monks forced into war. And war changes people. I never liked the argument of the civil war post war with the Infinit Empire being proof you can't balance the two sides. It completely ignores human nature and how much war negatively impacts a person's psyce. But here's my rebutal - So? The Jedi declare themselves to be guardians of the Republic, but they're also supposed to be explorer's of (light side of) the Force. Unless I've missed something in my SW reading, there's no way to immediately decide to avoid the guardian part and be a Force researcher. In effect, they're forcing every member to be a scientist, philosopher, law enforcement officer, teacher/quasi-parent, and even soldier. The Je'Daii showed that the balancing of the two sides IS possible, even if it's only perfect in a vacuum. But you can take that example and extrapolate it to the way the Jedi work so that using some of the dark side is possible by those who are specifically trained in it. Think Special Forces/SWAT training vs police/general protection. Not everyone would qualify, not everyone SHOULD qualify, but some Jedi could manage to do it. 4 - Now here I both agree and disagree. I absolutely agree that morality should be a major factor in who should/shouldn't attempt to balance/use the dark side, I also agree that just because it's possible, doesn't mean everyone should have the opportunity. What I disagree with is the blanket attitude of which side of the Force is the morally superior. As I said above, Yoda is my go-to example of someone falling to the light side. There are plenty of videos (pretty sure Geetsy has done a lot of them) of showing how Yoda had an idea of what was coming with Order 66 and never attempted to stop it. The Jedi Order pre Empire worked for a corrupt system that allowed slavery in all but name, let millions/billions of their subjects suffer, and generally didn't do much in the 1,000 years post Ruusan but be the Senate lap dogs. Would Anakin have been freed if he wasn't a Force Sensity? Extremely unlikely. The Jedi take children from their parents to "raise them in the right environment" so they don't form attachments. Lorn Pavan was SACKED from his job at the temple (business clerk) because he let the Jedi take his son Jax. A sacking that would cost him his marriage and ultimately his life. Being light side does not mean you are automatically making morally right decisions. People are people. Some get a rush from war, from having power over others, some enjoying beating another person up. But some are damn good at war while hating it, some refuse to do war crimes, and some can be the best boxers in history without ever enjoying the giving of violence. I fully agree that the dark side whispers/seduces a person, but I also think it's too easy to ignore the choices someone makes along the way to falling into being Sith. Just like how someone can follow the light and allow for an entire planet of people to be enslaved by a corporate entity. Would I suggest everyone in the Jedi (new or old) being trained in both sides? Not at all. I think it's an even more extreme version of Vaapad in that the person who success needs to have a better understanding of themselves than most others. But that won't stop me from arguing that it IS possible, that it's obvious the dark side is as much a part of the Force as the light side is, and trying to pretend anyone who is a light sider is automatically the good guy is a foolish notion.
@@morlath4767 You argued your points pretty well, too. 1. Agree and disagree. First of all, you are absolutely correct that Darth Gravid on his own is pretty week evidence that balance drives you insane. That said, Vectivus is even weaker evidence, because pretty much all the knowledge we have of him comes from a manipulative Sith trying to convince a utilitarian Jedi that the Dark Side can be used for good, and is more effective than the Light Side, and therefore is the morally required option, assuming you can remain in control and not let it destroy your moral fiber (which whatever else we may think, we can probably agree that Darth Caedus couldn't). Finally, given that we lack sufficient evidence to directly address balance itself, we should look at the two things you are trying to balance: the Light Side tends to drive people towards good, while the Dark Side does the opposite, and good and evil are mutually exclusive and mutually antagonistic, meaning any balance that can exist will be first of all maintained only with great effort and second of all contrary to the will of not one but two nigh-omnipotent entities (which may or may not be parts of the same larger entity). 2. Can you give evidence for the "falling to the Light Side" thing? Because I haven't seen anything, and I'm having a bit of trouble believing it exists--unless it's evidence that people aren't perfect, and even the greatest of Jedi have their flaws, which I will readily admit while maintaining that it has nothing to do with my main point. If you have evidence, I'll at the very least take a look at it, but right now the only examples of Force-users who took the consequentialist approach either seemed like they were wavering between light and dark (Kyp Durron in the early Yuuzhan Vong War, Luke Skywalker and Jaina Solo between the deaths of Mara Jade Skywalker and Darth Caedus) or were undeniably falling to the Dark Side (Revan and Malak during and after the Mandalorian Wars, Anakin Skywalker several times, Quinan Vos while infiltrating Dooku's Dark Acolytes, Luke Skywalker during Dark Empire, Darth Caedus). 3. Agree. I would like to point out the lack of evidence for its usability outside of a vacuum in any form as saying it isn't practical, but I guess we're talking about possibility, not practicality, so that doesn't matter. 4. As before, I see no evidence of moral corruption coming from the Light Side. If you can prove me wrong, please do so, because it's kind of the foundation for my current metaphysical understandings of the Force (I have two main possibilities, and both depend on it) and I don't like being wrong. Furthermore, there is overwhelming evidence of moral corruption coming from the Dark Side, so overwhelming that it appears inevitable. If my current understandings of the Force are incorrect, I can fall back on an earlier belief that I held before examining certain examples of Dark Side corruption, which is that the Dark Side is not inherently evil but was corrupted by misuse, meaning for all we know, Xendor and the Je'Daii might have had the right idea for their time period, but it wouldn't work in any later time periods (either that or it didn't work even then). Under that view, it could be argued that the uncorrupted Dark Side is present in the "Light Side" of the Jedi and most other "Light-side" organizations, or that it can be tapped into with immense difficulty (meaning I can show you one time it happened, and would not be surprised if that were the only time since the days of the Infinite Empire, if not before)--depending on which interpretation of the Dark Side we choose. That said, it is possible that the Dark Side itself is not morally corrupted and is instead morally pure and good and necessary, even though the opposite is true of its users. The basic idea is that the Force (or whoever created the Force) cares about free will and therefore found it necessary to create a "Dark Side" that governed evil and enabled it to happen, but also cares about morality and refuses to condone or support evil, meaning the Dark side hates its subjects and does everything it its power to destroy them and convince others not to take their place. As a result, the Dark Side is self-destructive (every Dark Side entity almost inevitably turning on itself and any others nearby, and has to be constantly revived with Ligtht Side turncoats), extremely unpleasant and characterized by pain and suffering, mainly on the part of the one using it (to the point of actually incentivizing the suffering of oneself and one's empire, thus ensuring that nobody in their right minds would ever go over to the Dark Side), and so corrupting that no servant of the Light can use it as a weapon against evil without going all the way and becoming subject to the laws of suffering and self-destruction that eliminate those foolish enough to choose that path while setting up warning signs to keep others away. Of course, the first and third laws cannot be absolutes, and the first must be capable of overcoming the second (tricking people into thinking it isn't true by giving them a taste of the bait before withholding forever both the promised goods and the knowledge of this treachery). But that's very high level metaphysics drawing heavily on at least one real-world theological question and an answer to it that is recognized by very few people, so you can ignore it if you wish.
Damn I wish all debates were this nice. Each side explaining points while pointing out things they agree with each other as well as things they disagree on in well thought out detail.
Keep in mind that if the Star Wars galaxy is anything like a regular spiral galaxy, it has existed for hundreds of millions of years MINIMUM before the Jedi. Just image the myriad of Force users and history on a geological level. Even 36,000 years is a blink of an eye to the innumerable shifts in the Force. There must've been forces and events that would've dwarfed what we know, lost in geological history

Why do I have a feeling I’m going to call the Jedi evil?

@@JediAcolyte94 I'm not just talking about the comic run, the comic run and novel were a part of a new publishing era called the before the republic era and it had been stated that it would tell the origins of the jedi and the republic. This era is shadow of what it would've been if the EU kept going.
@@Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk The only thing confirmed about that publishing era is that Dawn of the Jedi would have been an ongoing series.

I cant get over the fact people are fighting wars with swords yet they have space travel. I understand in this universe inter-planetary travel was a gift from god-like beings, and at least with lightsaber duels I can suspend my belief by thinking that its practitioners of an ancient religion taking part in ritualistic combat that harnesses their powers through the force. But once you take that away its extremely absurd. Its almost as bad as a mandalorian taking bounties in exchange for some special metal they require for their suits lol, meanwhile flying around in a spacecraft and using laser blasters on missions
To be fair beskar is extremely rare and one of the strongest metals in Star Wars (in addition to being steeped in tradition). It totally makes sense why you would take bounties for such a precious and rare metal as it’s only found on one moon in the mandalorian system and no where else in the galaxy.
The laser swords are slightly stupid but hey it’s their religion and seems to work out for them 99% of the time
Not really, Just for comparison's sake, Mandalorians use Beskar; while in real life Police and others use Kevlar for "bullet-resistant" vests, etc.
Well Star Wars is a fantasy story. People mistake it for scifi though.
In fairness beskar is incredibly culturally important for the Mandalorians and is deeply tied with their peoples’ history and religion to the point saying its weird that a Mandalorian deprived of beskar would take bounties for payment in beskar is like saying its weird a crusader would sack towns in exchange for retrieving lost Christian artefacts
