- Barbara Stanwyck was one of the 20th century's most enduring stars, known to generations of Americans. Orphaned at age four and a Zeigfield Girl by age 17, Ruby Stevens, by age 20 she earned excellent reviews for a bit part in a broadway play and adopted a new name: Barbara Stanwyck. She went on to have a long successful career in the movies and later on television.

Barbara continues to inspire me. She is an example of class, discretion, talent and adaptability.
She was a truly great actress. She deserved a couple of Oscars before the one she finally got.
It historically worked out that way now and then: A deserving actor would be passed up because it was someone else's "turn" according to Hollywood politics and then awarded later because it was "owed" them.
That's how it often works. A new talent thrills the Academy voters. Meanwhile, Richard Burton, Judy Garland, Peter O'Toole? "What's the rush - they'll be around for a long time! We can give them an honorary award - if they live long enough!"
She was wonderful
Very talented actress. Very lovely, brilliant, and formidable woman. Down to earth person. So rare and precious nowadays.
Her performance in "Double Indemnity" with Fred MacMurray and Edward G. Robinson was truly iconic. It's one of the few movies that I never tire from re-watching.
Jesus, I was bawling by the end of this! Interesting to compare different bio-productions about her & see the not so subtle differences in the many tales about her life. An impressive woman she was. Smart. Hardworking, resilient and clearly a class act no matter what roles she played.
Ball of Fire is one of my all time favorite films.
There's something I can't quite put my finger on, that resonates for me with Barbara Stanwick. But, I do know it has to do with her True Self, her spirit, he Soul.
She did it "Her Way".
Barbara Stanwyck was one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Even when she was older. What a beauty!
My husband thought so, too, and i agree! She is well known for her kindness and showing caring regard for others. I've come to believe that is what makes beauty last a lifetime.
She is my favorite actress from the Golden Age of Hollywood. She was fantastic and very versatile as an actress!!! A true legend!!
I've been in love with Missy my entire life!
I just rewatched The Lady Eve yet again a couple weeks ago...that ships cabin scene? Whooo boy, Fonda never had a chance!!❤
She should've won the Oscar for Stella Dallas. Truly one of her best roles. Happy heavenly birthday Miss Stanwyck.
I grew up watching old films as a little kid and I have to say that Barbara Stanwyck was a stand out actress for me even then.
There will never ever be another Barbara Stanwyck. Truly a lovely woman. Truly a one of a kind actress. May she Rest in Eternal Peace knowing she was loved and admired by all she met.
A favorite of mine, a real woman who went her own course, all the time. I had great respect for her and have seen every one of her movies, many many times.
Yes she was great and she was a NEW YORKER TOO!!! I Admired her such a true believable quality to her performances on the scene. I agree she should have won several academy awards!!
As a native New Yorker I approve. 👍🏼🎥🎬
@@luiszuluaga6575 Hello fellow NEW YORKER!!!
@@andreaidesalvo9738 a pleasure to make your acquaintance and I'm a lifelong New Yorker at that. 🙂
@@luiszuluaga6575 Great Luiz!
@@andreaidesalvo9738 have a lovely day, Andrea. :-)
My grandparents were so fascinated by miss stanwyck' s acting ability during those early Hollywood era the new stars now are a bit low quality ones but grandeur is still there like it has never been gone!!!
Barbara was a truly great actress, right there Bette,Ingrid and Kathryn!❤️❤️
I was born in 1972, so I only saw reruns of Stanwyck’s movies after the Saturday morning cartoons. Thought she was great.
Loved Barbara in the Big Valley.!!!! One great actress. !!!!
Barbara is my favorite actress of all time , never will there be another one like her !!!!! Thank you for her life story .
She was my favourite actress. The real reason Barbara Stanwyck didn’t win an Oscar was because she wasn’t attached to one studio and therefore she didn’t have the backing and support of a studio which was usually the reason why Oscars were awarded. It was studio politics
Well deserving of an Oscar 🏆🎭
A true artist, Ball of Fire was a terrific film.
Barbara Stanwyck was a great great actress she played many roles and what's so good at them thank you Miss Barbara Stanwyck
Don’t believe I ever saw any of her movies but, I do remember watching ‘Big Valley’ with my mom every week.
Wonderful! One of my favorite actresses.
The underrated Superstar.
Thank you so much H C for offering us such a high class movie history 💐🌼🥀
So loved her with Gary Cooper 🍀🍃🎋
Enjoy your weekend 🍁🍄✨🍒🫒🍸
Great actress. She had PERSONALITY x 10 in all her movies. I can only imagine what she went through as a child and I’m sure it toughened her up but you can see the humanity in her. She never lost that.
Colored still of Barbara from the wonderful Howard Hawk's "Ball Of Fire" (1941). Thanks for that dreamy posting.
'The Lady Eve' is one of my top 5. Stanwyck is at the top of her game. Even the bottom of her game is great.
It is one of the wittiest films ever made and she was wonderful in it - even her fake English accent was perfect.
I wish she was my sister I love her and she is in my heart for ever what a beautiful lady God bless Barbara
I've never really seen her in movies, but I loved her in , The Big Valley. She plays a tough gusty lady, who doest let anyone push her around. She had some challenging parts to play, and I loved how she did them. Always the strong willed widow.
I love, love, love Barbara 💕
SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL IN A KIND OF HARDENED WAY ♥️🎬📽️📻
Never realized how much Aaron Spelling resembled Jonathan Frid . I was expecting to hear about Barbara Stanwyck doing an episode of Dark Shadows. These people are before my time, but I love the syndicated re runs of Big Valley, and Spelling's 1970s made for TV Horror movies like Satan's School For Girls, Crowhaven Farm etc. Never knew about Barbara Stanwyck's pre Big Valley career, pretty interesting. I hate most new movies I hope to locate some of these really early films
"Double Indemnity" is one of the 10 best films ever made, and "Ball of Fire" and "The Lady Eve" (Henry Fonda's only screwball comedy) aren't far behind.
una gran señora y muy buena actriz supo envejecer con dignidad.
Grew up with Big Valley. Named one of my twins Jarrod!!!!!
Barbara Stanwyck one of my favorite actress she is spontaneous very fluid acting that you get carried away brilliant unforgettable actress that will mesmerize you super realistic actress just by her eyes you are hooked already
A very nice presentation indeed!
I grew up watching reruns of The Big Valley, so I only knew her as an older woman. When I saw her in The Lady Eve, I was amazed at how pretty she was and how good at comedy she was. Compared to Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, she seemed much more of a natural actress.
Loved The Thorn Bird
A tremendous tribute to a great actress with strength and talent to match. Miss Stanwyck would have been receptive in her usual self-critical manner.
Her early life was really, really rough. In and out of questionable foster homes and orphanages after her mother’s death and her father’s abandonment. She tragically had a botched abortion at the age of 12 that made her incapable of ever having children… no wonder she was hard and tough as steel
She is the type of lady, that would make any man be happy and proud.
How could this documentary not show a clip of Stanwyck in Samuel Fuller's 40 Guns?!?!?!?
Thank you..very educational......thank you!
Very nice . 😊🙏
Black and white films are so classic
She should have won for Stella Dallas.
I don't get it. Ginger Rogers turned down the role of Sugarpuss because she thought the character was too "common" and just two years later she played Roxie Hart?! Sounds like she was a little mixed up.
this is all a rehash of info. she, however, remains the best from that era. natural, straight down the line
Double Indemnity, repeated over and over again but never matched
No one is her match today.
I nevcr pass up a Stanwyck film.
What a load of absolute rubbish! Her most memorable role was the Big Valley?!!!Double Indemnity. Forbidden. Stella Dallas. Sorry Wrong Number. Two Mrs Carrolls. Meet John Doe. Golden Boy. I could go on and on. Whoever wrote this script needs a crash course on Hollywood.
the big valley was the least of her memorable roles or shows. poor tv. GREAT movies
A TOUGH CHIC FROM BKLYN.

Married Barclays!?! Hmm.. the famous Barclays in the markets?
she was pretty good, but bette davis is my number one.
She was a theslesbian.
Kind of homely and overrated as an actress.
