While there are many crossovers that offer a lot more interior tech and a much higher quality interior at a lower price, I applaud Toyota making hybrids more accessible to everyone. If I am not wrong, it is the only true hybrid crossover under 2M pesos (not a mild hybrid system, which is pretty much a glorified starter motor). I hope the hybrid variants of the Corolla and the Cross sell well so that other manufcturers will follow, and then there would be better and more options for consumers. Though the hybrid drivetrain (and the rest of the package) is basic and not particularly impressive, it is still a hybrid and it comes with TSS. This and the Innova are probably the only reasonable Toyotas I would actually buy because they have actual good characteristics instead of just relying on the "Toyota badge".
@@Player-gp7jy I got mine maybe 3 weeks after Toyota launched it. Yes I've been hearing a lot of complaints from potential buyers that there has been difficulty procuring units.😐
NGL, Caco looks much like a bespectacled Richard Hammond after having chugged a can of Red Bull... XD Anyways, proper review of the Cross. If I may add though, the front and rear design is meant to invoke its bigger sibling, the RAV-4. Which kind of explains the near-trapezoidal shape of the front grille, and the similarly-styled rear end.
Same thoughts! Your first comment though made me think about the Clarkson era Top Gear UK out of the blue. The Grand Tour has its moments but TG was just on another level
Electric motor not only improve fuel efficiency but also reduce wear and tear on several engine and transmission components: wear on brake disks and pads, no clutch = no clutch wear/replacement, etc. On the other hand of course hybrid also means battery pack which are expensive to replace in case of out of warranty failure or at the end of their life cycle (10+ years). Finally hybrid historically means Toyota, which is the most reliable brand thus the expectation of low maintenance cost in the first place.
@@Mattiu75 in Theory yes. But in practical terms? If I bring the vehicle to Casa for maintenances would they change the filters and other associated parts by date instead of wear and tear? What we'd like to know is the practical average cost of maintaining it in Toyota Service Centers.
@@mikh8l Of course the hybrid technology doesn't have the power to change what is the own limit of different parts and spares, but it can help to reduce the stress on them, of course depending on the specific part you would consider. It is a matter of fact that an hybrid car put less stress on brake discs and pads due to the regenerative brake technology and therefore your Toyota garage will replace them (much) later in time (but always only when they reach the specs threshold of the specific part) in respect of a non hybrid vehicle. Definitely you will save on this during the regular maintenance lifetime cycle on an hybrid vehicle. On the other hand there are other parts like oil and filters that are no or less dependant to the hybrid technology, especially those that are required to be maintenanced or replaced basing on time rather than use or milage. As a final statement most hybrid cars users agree that at worst an hybrid vehicle costs equal to a same-class standard non-hybrid car but typically it cost less or even significantly less, especially thanks to the fuel efficiency.
@@mikh8l I have been driving a hybrid for 10 years now. There isn’t maintenance for the hybrid system. The maintenance is exclusively on the petro engine. Toyota recommends oil changes every 10,000 miles (16000km). The batteries have been know to last over 300,000 miles without any problems. They cost more but maintenance cost is less than a petro vehicle.
@ekim andersom Lexus vehicles are way overstyled, and compete in the luxury market which puts it against tough competition. I like this corolla cross because it manages to fit a totoya hybrid system (which I concede they do the best since they had years to perfect it in the prius) in a package that makes sense to use on rough Philippine roads.
As much as I want to love this car just for being a Toyota hybrid, I feel like TMPI kind of shot themselves in the foot a little bit by not including features found in the same model. Specifically, the “cubby hole” was clearly supposed to be a Qi wireless charger, and the sunroof and hands-free powered tailgate found in Thai models are missing. Also, I swear that an electronic parking brake was in the Thai offering as well. And to top that off, they don’t even offer the Celestite Grey (grey blue) color option that is available for the Altis, and is also available for the Cross in other countries. Sigh... had Toyota just kept even some of the missing features in this variant, it would be easier to love this car. But honestly, knowing just how much was removed from the model being sold in the Philippines is kind of depressing.
The people in the Philippines is the problem. If they did bring the thai model here the price will go high and people won't buy it. Pinoy wants a car with all the features that costs so low such a lowballer
